Fela KutiDefinitely good grooves and breakbeats. Recognized a few samples that I've heard previously on hip-hop songs.

At first, listening to this album for the first time in 5-10 years was a bit underwhelming. However, the more I listened, the better it got just as I remembered. I used to love this album in highschool when I first discovered hip-hop. The production, GZA's lyrical ability, the features from other Wu-Tang members and affiliates made this such a great album. RZA's production on this album is one of his best. My favorite tracks was #13, which surprisingly wasn't produced by RZA.
Was not a fan of the album.
I’m a fan of old school hip-hop, just not this old school.
Beautiful album. All of the songs are so good. Reggae has a tendency of reminding me of my childhood and putting me in a good mood. My dad would take me to work with him and sometimes reggae songs would play. Specifically Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Gregory Isaacs etc.
Incoherent.
The songwriting and voice are sooo boring. The instrumentals themselves weren't half bad except for the monstrosity of Running Dry and it's violin part which almost made me get tinnitus. Cinnamon Girl, Down By The River, The Losing End, and Cowgirl in the Sand were good instrumental wise. Maybe if it was someone else singing with better lyrics it would be much better.
Classic album.
Great punk album, love the grittyness of the main singer. Had some tunes and grooves stuck in my head the whole day.
Still not a fan of this era of shout rap.
Great musical production and voice. Wish I knew what he was saying though.
Decent album.
beautiful voice, great production, but only a few memorable songs.
i always heard golden years at my retail job, never did i once think to my self “damn who sings this, its such a good song? i want to hear more.” his voice sounds short of nails screeching on a chalk board. not for me.
I enjoyed tracks 1 and 4 for what they were. I could see the concept of playing this at an airport while you wait to be boarded or checking in luggage. However, the fact that track 2 and 3 used the same vox/vocal kind of annoyed me because it brought a sense of discomfort. 2.5/5
Didn’t mind this album. It felt like quintessential middle american music even though he’a irish.
I have been a fan of FO since Nostalgia, Ultra. I had not listen to this album in a long while. While not his best songwriting, it still brought so many memories. The music itself is just as good as I remember. The instrumentation is spectacular, specially Pyramids.
yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes - yikes
beautiful voices, just not for me.
meh, nothing special.
