I've somehow managed to never listen to Arctic Monkeys even though I think I was their target audience during college because this album was everywhere and everyone was going gaga over it. This is the album I would have checked out during that period if I gave it a chance. I had a feeling I knew what they sounded like anyways and I had a feeling it wasn't for me. Now cut forward about 17 years and here we are. It's exactly like I thought it would sound and still isn't for me.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Jan 23 2023

Love this album. I haven't listened to it as much as Midnight Marauders (my favorite tribe album), but this album is still super solid. Its not a usual front to back album for me but most of this album is probably still in my constant rotation of songs I listen to regularly. Excursions, Butter, Scenario are the favorites.

Miriam Makeba by Miriam Makeba

Mbube is seriously kicking in some Lion King Vibes to me!! I enjoyed some of the songs! I dont think this is something I'd listen to normally but it was an enjoyable listen.

Pink Flag by Wire

The funny thing about checking out these classic albums are that I can definitely hear the influence and impact on later albums by other bands and even modern albums. This one is no exception. I'm sure it's groundbreaking for 1977 but I can't help but to feel it sounds like not fully developed compared to their later counterparts. I just wish some of these songs were fleshed out. Although overall this album didn't' really click with me, I'm actually curious about how they sound later on. This might just be because it's their debut album??

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers

Pink Moon by Nick Drake

This album is beautiful. Will probably be listening to this a lot

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Jan 31 2023

I've heard this album before. This go around, I recognize some sampled parts. Greendown was sampled by Mndsgn somewhere and Cold War was sampled by Clams Casino. This album gets a lot of praise and has influence on some of my fave producers and should be something that's right up my alley but for some reason it's not - just something about it that feels a bit empty. Can't explain it. Overall it's a good listen though - not something that I'd keep listening to.

I'm a fan of Eno's ambient albums and some of his work producing for bands. This album has some pretty cool /unique ideas and sounds. But i'm not really a fan of his voice. It ends up sounding a bit like a disjointed Roxy Music

I liked this better than I thought I would. I know some songs from this but overall I wouldn't say i'm too familiar with his body of work. Its a bit too long. If trimmed down, probably would be a a solid 4.

Tidal by Fiona Apple

Wonderful Rainbow by Lightning Bolt

this album is a fire explosion bursting. I think it's great. Not for all occasions and all times but some days i need an album like this.

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Feb 14 2023

I do like Dylan's style and this is some quintessential Dylan. There are some good songs in this one but not really one that I'd revisit as a full album. But even still - 3.5

1984 by Van Halen

ugh, sorry not my thing at all. can't listen to this whole thing.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Feb 17 2023

This is a masterpiece. Despite what you may think of him outside of the music, you can't deny how well crafted every piece of this is. If you're not going to give the credit Michael at least give props to Quincy Jones. This is the best pop record period.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet

Night Life by Ray Price
Feb 23 2023

Its not bad but not my thing - 2.5

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Mar 07 2023

Must admit, I'm a very late comer to Stevie Wonder's music. I only started really listening to his music in the past year but am slowly starting to digest thru his catalogue. This was the first album i got to. This album is great masterly crafted - some really great songs.
