So Much For The City
The ThrillsThis sounds light early-naughties indie-folk-rock. Its pleasant, but not mind blowing.

The Beetles are undeniable. I grew up listening to these singles with my dad in the car. His favorite band was the Beach Boys, but he also appreciated the Beetles and spoke to the rivalry between the two bands. He remarked that their voices all sounded very much the same, and they all had the same haircuts. I think this is the album cover that he was referencing. So much of modern pop and rock have this band to thank. Endless hooks and catchy toons, its fun to listen. The well known singles are a lot stronger than the deep-cuts. Still pleasant, but more boring and meandering. I'm sure this stuff was killer in the 60s though. I noticed that all of these cuts are super tight. Nothing is over 3 min. This makes for excellent pacing. Even the more "boring" cuts are over before I can complain too much. High: Hard Day's Night Low: Tell me Why, Can't Buy Me love (the repetition is grating after listening so many times, and the same-y nature of most of these tracks). Strong 6, Light 7
I can hear the influence they have on future acts. It not really my thing though.
I really like(d) this album. I really dislike what Kanye has become.
Groundbreaking use of samples. Too long though.
This is a 5/5 just for "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Sweet Child of Mine". But this is truly all killer no filler. The album is chock full of testosterone fueled jams that rock my face off. "You're Crazy" is one of my favorite deep cuts.
This is a sunny summer day album, best listened to while stoned.
I can hear the beginnings of afro-futurism.
I was surprised that a 9+ min Temptation song exists! Very Groovy and easy to listen.
These two albums start off with banger after banger. GhettoMusick is so good with its tempo shifts, you know the rest of the album is going to be just as unique. I'm not really a fan of the interludes. I feel like they bulk out an already super long album, and they kill the momentum. Speakerboxx seems like it takes traditional hiphop and rap elements and pushes them into a crazy future. The love below... I have no idea what I'm getting into with this intro.
jazzy pop ballades aren’t really my thing, but I can hear the direct influences on others artists and albums. I’m sure folks in the 80s were blown away by this record. It still holds up pretty well.
its a bit long. i can hear the influence of future alt rock. billie corgan is kinda pretentious isn’t he?
I don't like the Hives
I loved the first song, the rest just sounded the same. Depressing spoken word poetry over minimalist background music. Its fine, but I'm not going to be returning for more listens.
contains classics
Mother is such a fucking weird track. Miss Gradenko is cool and refreshing pallet cleanser. Every Breath you Take is a classic. The entire back half of this album is indulgent, and only EByT really earns the the right to be longer than 4 min. I'm feeling a solid three to a light 4.
This is the jazziest jazz i've ever jazzed before.
beautiful voice
one of the best albums of the last decade
Its a strong, epic, guitar-forward sound. I'm starting to understand why Led Zepplin are well known. Some of the longer songs are way too self-indulgent and repetitive for my taste.
interesting juxtaposition of accordion(?) music and heavier stuff. Not my thing though
There are a lot of interesting ideas hear. I love the way the lead singer uses their voice as an instrument. I also love the way each song has movements and phases.
In da club is a classic. This album had a huge effect on rap and hip-hop for years.
some classics on here. This album was endlessly sampled. It gets a bit boring in the later half just listening to it on its own.
Golden Age and DLZ are defining songs of my college experience.
I can see the artistic appeal, but Antony's vibratto is too much for me. This isn't an album I would consider returning to.
I like the guitars, I hate the singer's voice

Talking heads are my kind of weird rock.
I'm not super into jazz, but this is a nice one. It makes for excellent background music for a conversation or working.
