The Sensational Alex Harvey Bandthis does not deserve a spot on the list imo. very strange but not in an interesting way. the title track gives panto dame vibes. i did kind of enjoy it in a weird way.

3 good songs - the rest are bad. trying too hard to sound big. Too much going on, over the top and ultimately forgettable.
very fun album, felt a bit movie soundtracky at points? vocals are hit or miss for me. overall rly enjoyable but i probably wouldn’t relisten
unfortunately i’m too uncultured to think of anything but 80s movies when listening to 60s soul. lovely album but suffers from sounding the same the whole way through. (may need to start a “little girl” counter for these… what’s the obsession? can we love some grown up women please?)
boring. started irritating me like 4 songs in. advert music.
made me smile on the train. so fun. stuck between a 4 and a 5 - i love it but there are certainly skips.
instantly thought - “oh it’s like country Pavement!”… yeah turns out stephen malkmus was literally in the band for a bit. it’s certainly not amazing but i love sad boring indie. nvm the 2nd half is way less sad and boring. this is a lovely album.
she’s brilliant and i wanted to like it way more than i did. what an incredible voice she has! i just didn’t have much fun listening to it.
an HOUR????
ridiculous. but it knows that obvs. too theatre kid for me.
i liked it! v chill although maybe a bit same-y. unsure if this is really an album u need to listen to before u die though?
enjoyed it way more than i thought. very masculine - i’m not the demographic. 3.4.
i thought it was fun! but not super memorable
not the best pj harvey album but still one of the best we’ve had so far
perhaps not one i would come back to but managing to do 80s synth in a way that doesn’t sound like a caricature 40 years later is a feat in itself surely?
never really got into this one. it’s just a whiny, noisy, meandering stone roses album that pales in comparison to the better shoegaze bands. there are some enjoyable moments - vapour trail, nowhere, sennen.
tbh I would not call this a punk album, and certainly not the greatest punk album of all time. so much more ska than i realised. regardless, very good of course.
I loved this! really well done gothy post-punk - noisy but organised yet still danceable for some reason. and so cool that the beatles covered that helter skelter song! [NB - I'm glad Hong Kong Garden was not on the original release because it's easily the worst song there]
this sounds like it took them the exact amount of time it took to record the album to make it. not polished or clean at all but it works ofc.
actually quite enjoyed this! disco for cleaning & boogieing playlist incoming. tap dance solo was unhinged in a bad way tho.
christ almighty... at least now i know what it was like to sit in a hipster cafe for 50 minutes in 2004. (despise the album art btw)
snoozefest... goes on for far too long, especially considering the songs all have the same sound. some of them are good tbf.
yeah sure i get it, it's great, but it's not for me
did not want to finish because it was exacerbating my depressive mood… i did like it though. 3.4
if they had made this album at 15 all the problems would’ve been excusable… the pubescent attempt at rock music, his 16 year old victim, the “10 inch” double entendre. alas, they were grown men and this is terrible.
aw more jazz fusion again… yeah it’s fine but i don’t want to listen to it.
rly impressive that you can make smth so cohesive just out of samples. it’s very well done! just not super engaging
love this album. so moody and sultry… giving twin peaks.
first half is unreal actually. kind of trails off after that though
yeah goes pretty tbf. some skips perhaps
had a brilliant time at my 60s prom! one of the best live albums i’ve ever heard.
certainly earned its place on the list but i wouldn’t say its even the best oasis album. it has its huge, glaring flaws but it’s undeniably full of bangers.
tbf not rly sure how you are supposed to follow immigrant song as an opener but it wasn’t that
this is 2 hours of mid 90s drum and bass. i did not finish it.
hmmm.. at least it’s only 40mins
pretty good early 2000s rock. very of the time but i feel like it’s held up reasonably well.
i enjoyed this as a sort of album you put on the background. did have some really good moments but i fear if you write rumours you can never quite follow it.
so good, doesn't sound dated at all, production is brilliant. points deducted for the audiobook section. 3.7.
i get why they all say that about this album! it is quite good!
obvs sounds like a parody of 2013 synthy indie pop. so incredibly samey and boring. feel like you had to be there to get it.
soooo peaceful and gorgeous, i really enjoyed it
soooo good. maybe the first album i’ve had on here that i felt could’ve been longer.
this does not deserve a spot on the list imo. very strange but not in an interesting way. the title track gives panto dame vibes. i did kind of enjoy it in a weird way.
american pie (song) is a masterpiece but the rest of the album doesn’t really match up. not necessarily bad.
this one was not as good as dark side of the moon. very atmospheric which is not necessarily a bad thing, just not hugely gripping.
really masterfully written, not frilly or overly pretentious (except for the old people bit). was not expecting to enjoy
wholly unremarkable. Not 'cosmic' at all but unoffensive country.
wasn't hugely my kind of thing and I'm not sure I 100% "got it" but I did like it. 2.8.
what a funny voice he has!
I can't believe I had to listen to another version of the awful panto dame spoken word song from last week. See said Alex Harvey 'Next' review for my feelings on this album except I did not enjoy it this time.
really interesting, if pretentious. i enjoyed it though.
It's kind of like if The Bends was shit. They tricked me into thinking it might actually be good with Shiver but then it was not.
this wasn't really anything at all
twat. samples are really good but that's it - the nazism prevents that alone from bumping it to a 2.
this guy can write a nice little song for sure! listening on my sunny morning walk helped me enjoy this more too. I'm not really sure it's the kind of thing you need to listen to before you die but that doesn't mean it's not lovely.
absolutely perfect pop music. endless bangers, although perhaps doesn’t have the same range as better ABBA albums
almost exactly what i expected, apart from the fishcake recipe. not sure i necessarily loved it but it was really interesting.
most soul albums sound pretty samey and this one definitely had that vibe. but some classic songs very well done
loved the cowboy vibe, actually really enjoyed all the way through
perfect for the joyous “just finished exams” shower i was enjoying. so fun.
fast car is one of the best songs ever written. the rest of the album is similarly heavy but extremely well executed. maybe a little too depressing for me to love wholeheartedly
i’m thinking led zeppelin is just not rly for me… lots of weird moaning and talk of little girls that i hate from classic rock albums. they are talented in their playing but i do not get the hype.
peak late 90s radio alt rock. they don’t have much to say but at least they’re funky with it. 3.4.
beats are great and i love her style but i fear going for a totally laidback r&b vibe for an hour makes it a little boring
this was quite bad actually? it sounds so dated and a couple of the songs are unlistenable (housequake, if i was your gf). saved from being 1 star from the couple good songs.
this has a rly consistent sound while still keeping all the tracks varied. super funky and smooth. did not expect to like it this much.
perfectly written songs and a really well executed concept album. the last third or so is slightly weaker but i think it still deserves a 5.
perfectly good hip hop album. wasn’t blown away by it but was nice background music.
beats are great, drags on a bit
the actual songs are good, although nothing special imo. the stuff in between was not doing it for me.
2 stars because at least it was short, and inoffensive. impossible to listen to without considering how he was just copying much better black artists.
some very strong, heartwrenching moments. equally - some very overwrought melodramatic moments. but I imagine striking a balance on such a sad album is near impossible
it's funky duran duran. not complaining, but I easily could've died without listening to this.
I hated the production and the hee-ing and woo-ing and screeching. I liked Dirty Diana.
So fun and whimsical. Very girl punk at points - surprising. 4.5 rounded down.
Title track is unreal. Rest of the album is surprisingly a bit mid.
