Popular Reviews

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear

Southern Point is a 5 star song - the layered vocals, the guitar/bass interplay, and it's long enough for the song to totally change 3 minutes in. Two Weeks - I can see why it's popular, it's fun but not as good as Southern Point - is a 4 star song. A lot of the rest of the album felt a little banal, but Southern Point earns 4 stars for this album.

The Bends by Radiohead

"Repetitive Grunge Cacophony". I like Kid A and Amnesiac pretty well, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood are musicians I admire, they generally do cool stuff with harmony and dissonance, but I found this album tedious.

The Blueprint by JAY Z

Listened to this straight through after work, thoroughly enjoyed it, made me want to learn more about the process for crafting the album. I know JayZ had different producers he worked with - how did they choose the musical sub themes? They really augment the lyrics and the meter, they include nods to a lot of R and B classics. Is it obvious my background is in classical music and I don't listen to enough rap to know how to write about it haha...

A Short Album About Love by The Divine Comedy

Fun album - love the orchestration, the melodies and lyrics are clever. My favorite piece is Timewatching - homage to Nat King Cole - he's singing with only string accompaniment. The strings are exquisite.

L.A. Woman by The Doors

A classic. For good reason.

Timeless by Goldie
Sep 08 2023

Track one has very cool drum lines. This would be a good album for a long boring drive.

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
Sep 13 2023

I like his sound - Jungle Music was my favorite track - but there wasn't a lot of meat to the album, it didn't hold my attention beyond a song or two.

Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos
Sep 14 2023

A beautiful album- Amos is so unique. Love the piano.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka

Porcupine by Echo And The Bunnymen

Cool album. Track 2 is my favorite. They sound so much like Arcade Fire that I looked them up to see if they're Canadian - they're British.

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Track 1 is a cool discovery, added it to my 1001 albums favorite trackcs playlist.

Vauxhall And I by Morrissey
Sep 28 2023

I like MOrrissey's sound but this album is kind of dull.

Manassas by Stephen Stills

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald

She is so wonderful. It's a good album, but if I were making this list I'd include her singing tracks other than Gershwin.

Love this album but it gets 3 stars because I don't think it's one of the 1001 best ever. U2 has more interesting albums.
