Mothership Connection
ParliamentYeah, it had some cool songs on it. Was over very quickly.
Yeah, it had some cool songs on it. Was over very quickly.
I like Ray Charles, I got a bit bored of all the big band kinda sound though.
Has some good songs on it for sure, but also songs which are not so good. I covered some of these when I was in a band as a teenager so it has fond memories. I remember buying the CD in Greenwich market.
Classic, enjoyed it. Only really new the classic "take 5" but enjoyed the rest too.
I know nothing about Jazz, but this felt like it wasn't a very easy listen. I struggle with Jazz with no blatant clear melody which is returned to at some point, and if there was one in these songs, I didn't really notice it. The bass felt way too loud in the mix, Maybe my hearing is just better on my left and the bass seemed to be pushed to far left, and the piano far right. This meant I often listened to the bass over the piano, and as this is a Bill Evans album I guess I should be listened to the piano more...? Didn't really enjoy it, but not so much I didn't listen to the whole thing
Carole King has a beautiful voice, but on a lot of these songs I would prefer to hear the originals, I do like her version of natural woman but not as much as Aretha Franklin.
I like CCR, and this album certainly had a lot of good songs on it. Wasn't blown away by it but an enjoyable listen.
I like Cream, but generally speaking I can't think of any of solo or band work Eric Clapton has done which I find interesting. I certainly don't find 9 minute "blues" songs interesting. I also hate songs with two guitar solos going on at the same time, or songs where there seems to be a constant guitar solo in the background with no real purpose. The tone of Claptons guitar also I find annoying.... I guess I could sum up this album with "there was a lot I found annoying about it" I had to skip a lot of the songs, because they were too long, I really would struggle to listen to anyone play a "blues" song for 9 minutes especially when it's just a w@nk guitar solo for 7 of those 9 minutes. Also as I mentioned the the constant background guitar solos.... why? I imagine they recorded a version of little wing as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix I imagine he died shortly before this came out? but it seriously lacked any of the heart or soul of the original and I found it far from being a fitting tribute. The one song I did enjoy was "Anyday" I had never heard that before and thought it was quite good. Layla just reminds me of men who are overly passionate about cars, which in turn I find annoying, though I quite like the piano melody in the middle section.
Pleasant listen, I didn't find it remarkable interesting but also found it far from offensive.
Brought back teenage memories as I was 13 when this came out, it's an ok album but I wouldn't put it in 1001 albums of all time. I imagine some people would because the mix of different genres and styles, use of samples etc etc, as I guess it was one of the first mainstream albums to mix all that stuff together, but I'm not sure they do it very well... scooby snacks is a fun song the other singles are ok, but the album tracks really do feel like filler, I had to skip a few of them.
I have been listening to this album for over 20 years and it's still a pleasure every time I hear it, probably the favourite album I am going to hear on this 1001 list.
I like the X - Lost Angeles album and have listened to it a lot over the years. This album I was less familiar with but still really enjoyed it.
It was ok, not an unenjoyable listen, but I fear it went over my head quite a bit, I didn't really see what was that special about it.
I only really know the big songs from The Flaming Lips but don't dislike them, this album was fine, but not one I would go out of my way to listen to again if I'm honest.
I like the doors, had a few songs on it I didn't know which was nice.
I enjoyed this, I only really know of Jimmy Smith because of "root down" being sampled by the Beastie Boys but this was a pleasant listen whilst I worked.
I like Stevie Wonder but all his albums feel so hit and miss, with a lot of filler between some amazing songs, I don't think I have heard an album which is good from start to finish.
Neil Young has a lot of records and I only really know Harvest and After the Gold Rush, but I really love this record. Especially lonesome me, and only love can break your heart.
I have listened to this a few times over the years, but it's not an album I go back to often. I respect Killing Joke though for pushing the genre on a little bit in a new direction, songs like Changes are Requiem are great, the others a little bit filler'y.
I like Simon and Garfunkel, but this isn't my favourite album. Though it still has some great songs on it it's a bit too folky. I prefer bridge under troubled water.
Loved it, Not a kinks album I had listened to before, knew waterloo sunset of course but not many of the others. Need to listen to more music by the kinds. I used to live in North London and saw Ray Davies standing on a street corner waiting for something in Highgate Village once.
I think a common theme with this site is to think a classic album is an album with one of the "hits" on it but doesn't really have any other good songs on it. This is the case with Machine Head, Deep Purple In Rock is such a better album that Machine Head, but it doesn't have smoke on the water on it, which is a pretty average song anyway.
I generally prefer The Isley Brothers earlier material but this is a great album with some great songs on it
Nice enough, not something I would usually choose to listen to but I enjoyed it.
It was fine, pretty boring. There was no stand out songs from it really.
Nice collection of songs for sure, only really knew the singles but enjoyed the others too. I imagine the albums which came before this are better though?
Good, enjoyed it. I think I prefer the album which came after this one, but this one was still enjoyable, and a lot of songs I had not heard before.
This is an OK album, I am not anti John Lennon. I really love Jealous Guy, I just don't understand why "imagine" is lorded up as such a great song, it's really really basic. The kind song a teenager would write after learning two chords on a piano. John Lennon has some amazing songs, obviously. But Imagine is not one of them.
It's ok, I used to own this. I found the LP in a charity shop, but traded it for something else at the record shop. At first I thought maybe I should have kept it but actually it's not great.
This is another one where they is one good(ish) song and the rest are very average.
It was fine, some good songs on it for sure.
It really does have some great songs on it, brought back good memories of the 90s.
Not for me
I only knew "so glad" which is a song I really liked, but the rest of the album was great too! Seems like quite a progressive sound for 1967, I can see how it has gone on to be very influential.
Yeah, love it. Every song is full of such emotion. I really love Johnny Cash and this period of his career where he is looking back at his life. So sad, but so beautiful and a perfect selection of covers for him to add his own unique style to.
really enjoyed it, I know very little about jazz so have no useful insights.
Never heard this before, has a couple of really nice songs on it, generally pretty good!
The Sonics are one of my most favourite bands, and this is an amazing album full of great proto-punk, garage greatest. Boom is my favourite album but this is a very very close second.
I enjoyed it, couldn't tell you anything about it but was an enjoyable listen in the background.
It's good, kinda forgot that it has quite a lot of annoying songs on it though.
I love jimi Hendrix as this album certainly has a lot of great songs on it.
Production on this was really good, I enjoyed it very much!
I found it a bit boring, I know that's probably an ignorant thing to say but it didn't do it for me
It was ok, a bit boring. I like 60/70s Dylan, not sure about 90s Dylan though
OK enough, didn't turn it off but I won't be going out my way to listen to it again.
I didn't really know this album, I stopped listening to Radiohead after OK Computer (which I really like) I thought this was good, had some good songs on it and felt like a development of their sound.
Brilliant, not a bad song on it. Probably one of my favourite Dylan albums.
Didn't mind some of the beats but no, not for me.
AH HAAAA. Apart from the Alan Partridge and wedding disco novelty value this album didn't do it for me.
I love OK Computer probably the peak of Radiohead's career, every song is amazing and gives me a lot of 90s nostalgia!
I really like this album, especially the more Bruce Springsteen inspired songs.
Suede meant a lot to me as a kid, they were the first band I really got into. I preferred the first album but this one still meant a lot to me when I was 11... but now I listen to it and find it very annoying. We are the pigs and wild ones are still really good tracks, but a lot of it I had no memory of, even though I must have listened to it 1000s of times in the 90s.
Modern day classic, I love this album. Every songs is brilliant, it holds great memories for me as a few of the songs were on a playlist me and my friend listened to on a few US roadtrips.
Good, not a Doors album I am super familiar with, the songs I didn't know past me buy a bit. But an enjoyable, if not short listen.
I listened to this album a lot when I was in my first year of Uni in 2001. I remember on a Saturday night most people in my halls went out, but I didn't fancy it so stayed in and was playing my bass along really loudly to this album because I thought everyone was out and I wouldn't be disturbing anyone. I was on the first floor of our halls building and most of the female students were upstairs, directly above us. A really beautiful fellow student from upstairs came down and knocked on my door whilst I was playing, I opened the door and saw this beautiful female student from upstairs and instantly thought "wow she is going to tell me how much she was impressed with my bass playing and that I am really cool!" (I was very delusional at this point of my life) but of course she told me to shut the fuck up because she was trying to take a nap. Anyway, it was good to reminisce about that time in my life, this album has some great songs on it. Only had to skip a few, but probably skipped them in 2001 too if they weren't bass riff heavy.
I used to this a lot when I was at uni, I would have thought the first album would be a better one to have on this list? It's a collection of better songs in my mind (this is the second one right?). This one is ok though.
Yeah some great songs on this, but also some not so great ones. Generally really enjoyable though.
Yeah, it had some cool songs on it. Was over very quickly.
yeah... not for me.
Mama Said Knock You Out is such a good song, I was surprised how poor the rest of the album. Some of the songs sounded super commercial, when he started going on about Jesus I had to turn it off.
Yeah was nice, I have never listened to it before. Some enjoyable songs on it for sure.
Thought it was boring. Wouldn't listen to it again.
I thought this was awful in the 90s and I think it's even worse now. 70s odd years of popular music and this is in the top 1001 albums? I find that really hard to believe.
Enjoyed it, I remember this from back in the day and knew a couple of songs, which were probably singles. Was nice to listen to it again.
Nice, a few of these I remember from back in the day. It's not so good I am going to rush to listen to it again though.
Hard not to like this, amazing from start to finish. Especially with the covers. This albums helped me discover the Meat Puppets and the Vaselines which I am very thankful for.
I had never given Common much attention before but that's two albums I have heard from him now and they are both brilliant. Production on them is second to none.
I'm not sure why this Cure album was picked, I am not a huge cure fan but isn't disintegration a much much better album?
Yeah good, I wish I liked Frank Zappa more than I do, there is some great songs on here definitely but also a lot I don't feel needs another listen.
This is one of the first albums I got into without the influence of my older brother. There a lot of sad songs on this album, and some of the songs bring back some not so pleasant memories. But it's an album I love and I'm glad I got into when I did.
Nice, never listened to Solange before but seen her LP in record stores. I didn't enjoy it enough to buy it, but I didn't turn it off.
Was fine, sort of passed me by...
Great album from start to finish, not my favourite Smiths album but there isn't much I don't like by the smiths
Yeah, great album.
It's fine, probably doesn't need another listen but I didn't turn it off
Great album, when this came out I was a child and thought it was a bit silly, but love it now as an adult!
Not my favourite Led Zepplin album, II and IV are much better
I only knew Game of Pricks, which is a song I really like. I wasn't really blown away by the rest of the album. I like their dedication to lo-fi recording, but in places it sounded awful.
was fine, I liked her cover of "For no one" but not something I will need to listen to again I don't think.
Yeah, one of my most favourite albums of all time.
Some good songs on it for sure.
Great production, and full of classics, only 1 or 2 not so memorial tracks on here
Got some good songs on it for sure, I really like true confessions. I think it's The Understones best song, was a shame for it to not have the guitar version on it. The One spotify linked to had "Teenage Kicks" on it also, which I don't actually think was on the original version of the album.
Not for me, I don't mind some Depeche Mode but found this boring and instantly forgettable.
I really got into REM but later than Murmur. Monster was the first album I really loved then I went backwards from there. But this was still very enjoyable.
Amazing album, forgot how many great songs there are on this one.
Not terrible, but not for me.
I like Ray Charles, I got a bit bored of all the big band kinda sound though.
I find Pink Floyd, pretty boring. I like the song "Wish you were here" but this is an album I would listen to our of choice.
The nostalgic enjoyment of Sledge Hammer was not enough to save this album.
I love this album, perfect from start to finish. I have very found memories of this.
Some songs were cool, but overall it wasn't overly memorable.
Doesn't get any better than this!
I love The Fall, choosing one album to be on this would be hard. Because as much as I love The Fall I do realise that they have some amazing songs spread over a lot of albums. This isn't probably the album I would choose, but it's not a bad one.
I enjoyed it, not an album I knew a great deal of the songs from.
Yeah, I really like this album. It's one I listen to quite regularly. I especially like the song "gimme the loot"
I like Bruce Springsteen, and this album, has song great songs on it for sure!
I had never heard of this band before, I really enjoyed this and will listen to more, thanks 1001 albums.
Really enjoyable, not sure I have ever listened to this concert before.
Has some good songs on it for sure, but also songs which are not so good. I covered some of these when I was in a band as a teenager so it has fond memories. I remember buying the CD in Greenwich market.
I do not like U2, but this isn't a bad album.
Is this their best album? I'm not sure. Anyway, it's ok.
I enjoyed this album, I am not a huge cure fan but have listened to this a few times in the past.
Love it, Trash is a song that has specific good memories for me!
I like the Boss, and although this probably isn't his best album it is still really enjoyable.
Yeah, I like early Black Flag and this album is good, mostly great songs on this one!
