ParliamentCool, catchy funk to start the week. Good listen, ended sooner than I expected.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I was aware of the length of track one but I was enjoying this album so much the next thing I knew it had ended and Spotify moved on to something else. Bit gutted, I could have listened to a lot more.
I have to admit that it is a testament to the game I was playing while listening to this that I made it through this album, and also because it was my first one to listen to since joining this group, I wanted to stay in the spirit of things…. ….. but my god this was awful. I only know of LCD Soundsystem by the song ‘Daft Punk is playing at my House’ which I don’t mind, but this album felt like a fever dream of weird instrumentation and unenjoyable singing. Not a fan.
Not what I expected having looked them up just before starting my listen. There is no denying that Nick Cave has a good voice as that is primarily what is on show in this album, with a lot of accompanying piano. It’s a very chilled album till you get to West Country Girl which ups the tempo slightly, and I have to say this was my preferred track on this album. Again, not really one that’s to my taste but a better listen than the previous day.
Quite the audio treat. Never knew that this band was linked to some of the biggest names I personally have heard of; Clapton, Green, Fleetwood, McVie but found myself very much enjoying this album. The added bonus is the inclusion of both Mono and Stereo versions of the songs so you get to hear it all again but slightly different. I didn’t realise till at least three/four tracks into the stereo ones that I was listening to the same tracks I’d just heard.
Got through one track and had to turn it off. The guy is nothing more than a fruit loop.
Enjoyable enough, really wasn’t a fan of the Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll track but the rest of the album was a solid listen. It’s one of those where you’ve heard several tracks in the past but you never knew who it was that had done them. I had that happen a few times listening through this.
Started off well, the Willow song is familiar but I didn’t know that Tay Tay sang it. I enjoyed its tempo and thought maybe I’d enjoy the rest of the album if that was how the opening track was, but for me it went downhill. It all got a bit depressing for me after the first track and started to become a bit of a chore to listen to.
Very smoothing voice to listen to. Never usually one for country music I had time to kill waiting on an MOT and service. Being completely unfamiliar with country music bar the popular songs that everyone knows, I was finding myself tapping my foot or bobbing my head along to the music. Bottle Let Me Down and Queen of the Silver Dollar were my highlights from this album.
Not my jam, was expecting something better than what this was.
I think everyone has heard the main released singles from the Rio album over the years, and they are great, catchy songs. So you hope that the rest of the album will be just as good. Pleasantly for myself, I can say that on this my first full listen to the Rio album, I’ve enjoyed it. Lonely in your Nightmare was the only track that I didn’t much care for but the rest of the album was a pleasant listen. Save a Prayer is one of my all time favourite Duran Duran songs so any chance to hear that I am totally fine with.
“Sing a Simple Song”, “Sex Machine” and the instrumental of “My Brain” were my highlights of this listen. The rest of the album I didn’t much care for. The lyrics to the second track were very unexpected when that played 🤣
Full disclosure: I have a hatred for Slade just based on that damn Christmas song. So with that said, I didn’t know what to think when I searched for this to listen to but track one started off like something I could enjoy and then Nobby starts singing and you know what I think that is what killed it for me. I just couldn’t enjoy this album and I think that’s due to Nobby Holder’s voice. Some might say it’s unique, but for me it’s just not enjoyable to listen to.
Never been too fussed by the Kings of Leon, after all their main hit single Sex on Fire is a song that I can’t stand. This album however, I was pleasantly surprised with a few songs that I quite enjoyed, despite not really understanding what the singer is saying, but there was some decent tempo tracks tap to. I’m probably not a KoL convert, but I didn’t mind this listen.
Nice and chilled for the weekend while doing some graphical stuff on the computer. No complaints about this, and while I had to listen to this on YouTube I think my stand out track that I really enjoyed was Lunchmeataphobia.
When Miles Davies popped up I was quite looking forward to it. I’ve heard his name many times but have never listened to his work. However, this left me disappointed. The tracks are just too long and this being one of his experimental albums it is just not what I was hoping to hear.
Excited to listen to an entire Doors album for the first time. Break on Through and Light my Fire are instantly recognisable and truth be told I never actually knew they were done by the Doors. Alabama Song and End of the Night were my low points in this album, I wasn’t much a fan. The latter started off well because I liked the moody, mysterious instrumentation that was going on but the lyrics were a bit boring. Capped off by an acid trip that was The End that I enjoyed mostly apart from some random almost spoken parts, I have to say I overall enjoyed listening to this.
Was a little surprised when track one started playing because I wasn’t really looking forward to a band that has to do with Courtney Love, but when it came on it was a case of “oh it’s THAT song”! That was my highlight of this listen. There are a few other tracks that poked my interest but at the same time there was a lot of stuff that wasn’t really engaging my interest.
No real comments, it was pleasant enough to listen to, but for some reason I thought they were an American band.
Nothing much to say. Not my thing, but Joni does have a good voice to her.
Never really a fan of The Offspring but this is just what I expected to hear.
Erm….. Reno Dakota was fun, but this is a piss take album right? Bad enough it’s 3 hours long but this is such a mix of rubbish that I wish I could turn back the clock to get the time back that I wasted listening to this and full disclosure, those tracks that weren’t super short I started to listen to halfway before skipping so as to get through this. Shocking.
A relaxing listen, but not something that really grabbed my attention apart from Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out) but that track starts with some good strong instrumentation and it kept me hooked, that is until the next track came along. While not knowing their name I have heard their work before. Seems Arcade Fire did the movie score to the Joaquin Phoenix film “Her”, and with that being a film I quite enjoy then there is some stuff out there by Arcade Fire that I much prefer.
Possibly the Adele of his time, while he has a decent voice and can entertain, my god was he overplayed during the time this album was doing the rounds. Not a fan, and I have to say hearing those main singles again just brought me back to the loathing I would feel everytime they got played back in the day.
Rapidly forgettable.
My first ever full Beatles album and I’m happy to report I thoroughly enjoyed it. Another one of those where you’re just enjoying it and before you know it it’s over. Didn’t think I would enjoy a Beatles album this much but the people that asked me so far “What did you think of yesterdays album” I’ve been quite excited in my praise for it.
Not bad, I have to say I never knew that Manic was a Welsh band. It was nice to hear out of the blue, “A Design for Life” a song that I really do enjoy but had no idea it was a MSP song.
Their best known song Can I Kick It is familiar to me. Unfortunately, that’s not on this album. While I didn’t mind that this was a more chilled rap style, it was also just immensely boring. I’ll give it a kind 2
There is a track called Hold Ya Mouf, which I assume means Hold Your Mouth. Should’ve taken his own advice.
Not going to lie the first track made me think like I was listening to a rejected version of the Are You Being Served theme with all the cash register sounds, which was a bit concerning to me as this is the much lauded Dark Side of the Moon album. The limit of my Floyd knowledge is High Hopes, Another Brick, Money and Comfortably Numb, so I was expecting something like that and right now I’m listening to Time and I don’t get the hype for this album. In fact, Time is the only track I’ve enjoyed so far and even then I feel like this would be better without the lyrics. The Great Gig in the Sky wasn’t that great simply for the wailing woman all track long, while again the music sounded good. Similar for Money, this is actually my first time listening to the track all the way through and there is an annoying part for me before the halfway point with what I assume is a saxophone before some glorious guitar playing comes in. That guitar section is the saving grace of the song for me. I had to pause my listen at that point till later while I did some cooler cleaning I figured I would finish off the rest of this album and the rest while it sounded good, it wasn’t especially memorable. I don’t know, I just don’t get the hype.
Just not the Depeche Mode that I enjoy. Some good tracks, a lot of ones I cared nothing for.
Just not the Depeche Mode that I enjoy. Some good tracks, a lot of ones I cared nothing for.
Not really my thing.
I’m not one for political statements to be made in music and this again is one where I’m just not that interested.
I’m a big fan of “You Can Call Me Al” which is not on this album, but that’s the sort of upbeat Paul Simon I was hoping for and to be fair, there are a few on here that fit that style. However, those track that aren’t upbeat are a bit of a drag on what was a chilled listen. Also didn’t know that Me and Julio song was done by Simon, also didn’t know this is the Simon from Simon and Garfunkel. The stuff you learn eh?
Contrary to what someone else wrote, yes I can hate on it. It’s a Christmas album, and they are awful, and this being an early one it’s not even saved by having Fairytale of New York on it which is the ONLY Christmas song I will tolerate.
Didn’t mind it, it helped to kill some time, but I don’t think it is something that I would go back to to listen again.
Curious one this so far, just coming to the end of track three. Started off good, nice uptempo track one to get me vibing and ready to invest the time and then came track two, which started off slower and I was hoping this wasn’t going to be a sign of things to come, but then it got to the 1:48 point of the track and I was straight away pulled back into paying attention. Having finished it the following day I think the second half of the album didn’t live up to the first half for the fun and entertainment it was giving me.
Yet another name I’ve heard of and then been surprised to hear that they are a British band. It was a nice listen but I have a big problem with the random hitting of notes that dominated the latter half of Moonchild. I hate that and it ruins what was up until that point from what I remember an enjoyable track.
I’ve never had the desire really to listen to go out and purposefully listen to the Beastie Boys and listening to this has validated my thinking. Yes it has the classic Fight for your Right but that’s pretty much the only highlight for me and it’s not even their best song in my opinion (that being Sabotage for me)
Generic. This guy was in A Tribe Called Quest which already doesn’t say much for me as I rated their last entry a 2. This is just another generic sounding rap record to me. At least he did have one good song that I enjoy but for that you have to look up Deee-Lite’s Groove is in the Heart. And who the hell calls themself after a cotton wool bud for gods sake!
The opening to track one is almost iconic but I have neither heard the rest of the track nor knew who actually made it. Röyksopp you say? Never heard of them, but their music is instantly familiar. Track 2 is another with an underlying beeping track that is instantly recognisable but I couldn’t tell you all the different times I’ve heard it. Finishing up the album, I really enjoyed it. Good load of chill out tracks.
Ah, a movie score. Im a big fan of movie scores having quite the collection on a hard drive somewhere. Names like Basil Poledouris, John Carpenter, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, not to forget the legend Hans Zimmer. These are examples of people who have put out some of the most iconic movie scores in history. Sadly, this isn’t at that level, not even close. Maybe I actually need to see the film for the music to make sense, but this was rather generic and there was no track that was really memorable. As movie scores go, there are much better that I would put on this list.
Had this on while at work doing some sorting and tidying and it was a nice chilled listen. Quite enjoyed this, will look up further if I remember.
Three songs on this album you can attribute to the Stones. Now I’ve Got A Witness, Little By Little and Tell Me, while the rest of it is just covers which is kind of disappointing. I’ve never been a listener of the Stones aside from their biggest hits, so when I saw this I thought it was a chance to dig into them deeper but I feel that opportunity is tainted when most tracks are merely covers. Either way, Now I’ve Got a Witness was my favourite of the tracks attributed to the band themselves.
Overhyped? Definitely, but at least I can understand what is being said. Though I almost didn’t get that far because Intro is just god awful. Thankfully, the rest of the album isn’t as stupid as that track but it is rapping about the typical material found on a rap album. Only gets a 2 because I can understand the lyrics.
Her voice is annoying to me. Didn’t enjoy this at all.
Last week was not a good week for album selections in my personal opinion so this was a nice change. Heard the name, don’t know the songs apart from Sweet Talking Woman (ruined by usage in TV adverts) and Mr Blue Sky. Not fully enjoyed but an average 3 given how it’s an improvement over last week.
I first heard Orbital when the track (from this album) Halcyon and On and On played during the ending scene of the original Mortal Kombat film, but aside from that and Orbital’s cover of the Dr Who theme (check it out it’s good) I’ve never actually explored further into Orbital’s back catalogue. This gets bonus points for using a clip from Star Trek about the theory of the mobius, otherwise track one is largely superfluous, and track two wasn’t the Orbital I was expecting. I think this album gets going when you start the first of the Lush titled tracks, but without doubt for me the highlight is Halcyon.
Sounds like a typical Foo Fighters album to me which is only ever a good thing.
Not a fan. It all seemed a bit dull and just generic noise.
I don’t think this is Bowie at his best. In fact, this was written at a time he and Iggy Pop were trying to turn their lives around from being hooked on drugs, so yeah this isn’t the sort of Bowie I had hoped to hear. That said I really liked Subterraneans, a track that was meant for Bowie’s soundtrack to The Man Who Fell To Earth before he pulled out from doing the soundtrack.
And there was me thinking Will Smith’s Wild Wild West was an original song. Turns out he just sampled I Wish from this album, and that’s not the only familiar tune on this album. Considered the Magnum Opus of Wonder’s career, it was a mixed bag for me. Some tracks, mainly those familiar ones were enjoyable and others I cared nothing for.
Had to turn it off before I got too depressed.
Not bad. Was expecting some generic R and B but the electronic additions were quite nice and made this worth listening to for me.
You can’t not like Marley when he comes on.
Not the Queen I was expecting to hear since I’ve never really listened to them. Brighton Rock was a great track, which I didn’t think was Queen when I first started listening. Then as Tempe album progressed you’d hear some stuff that you’d recognise instantly as Queen. Not bad.
Enjoyed listening to some Hendrix, didn’t enjoy the amount of channel changes on my headphones.
Gets a 2 just for Hotel California, and the only other track I know Life in the Fast Lane. Based on the rest of this album, I don’t understand the hype for The Eagles.
Not my thing again, but it was nice that from the time period this wasn’t gangster rap. Made a nice change.
Decent enough.
Cool, catchy funk to start the week. Good listen, ended sooner than I expected.
Fantastic. Remember when this album came out and people were all talking about Linkin Park. Unfortunately since the death of Chester they faded away though I did hear a rumour of a return with a female vocalist. Lots of great tunes mixed amongst the better known tracks. Fantastic.
