Popular Reviews

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival

I don’t know what I expected before listening to this album. I think my preconceptions about Creedence Clearwater Revival were that they were a country band like the Allman Brothers, and while I think there is a time in a place for that kind of music, it’s not my favorite. But after just a couple minutes of listening to this album, I am a convert. only giving four stars because white people gaining fame from music that is clearly inspired by traditions of black musicians deserves to be knocked down a peg on principle.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Dec 22 2023

Great sound, definitely ideal background music for me. I can see how so many artists since then have been influenced by this album - particularly one of my favorites, Silk Sonic (collaboration between Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak). Only giving four stars because I would definitely use it as background music, and I’m reserving 5 stars for any albums that I would turn on because I want to listen to and engage with the songs.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Dec 24 2023

i loved it! great guitar, excellent atmosphere and vibe

Cross by Justice

Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds
Dec 28 2023

extremely high quality recording, absolutely in awe of the sound quality. not a huge fan of the music itself - a decent background album for sure, but i don’t think i’d go out of my way to listen

Dec 29 2023

i can see how this album was influential during the 80s punk era, leading into early 90s grunge. i appreciate it but i don't think i'd seek it out. it gets an extra star for being the King of the Hill theme song.

Blur by Blur
Dec 30 2023

i forgot that Damon Albarn is the frontman for Blur. i am actually usually a huge fan of his music, but he gets 1 star because of the shady shit he said about Taylor Swift. i will only pirate his music from now on.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Dec 31 2023

love this album, been a big fan for a long time !

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
Jan 04 2024

i respect it but i don't want to hear it

Revolver by Beatles
Jan 06 2024

i understand what they did for mainstream white people rock and roll but A) i don’t like it and B) just like CCR, i can’t on principle rate an album highly when it’s white people making music and building fame off of styles originated by nonwhite artists - not only black musicians who created rock n roll from blues and jazz, but in this instance, styles of Indian music co-opted by white British men.

Jan 07 2024

i do not have the stamina for a 90s style rave but if i did i’d want this album to be playing

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Jan 09 2024

hell yeah.

Jan 11 2024

my dad and i went to see them at MSG in the early 2000s. he got a traffic ticket for making an illegal right turn on red, and we almost missed the band bc we thought they had an opener but it turned out they were the opener. which was a huge shame, they opened for Kid Rock and we left after their set because fuck kid rock. LS killed, they were great. love them.

Jan 12 2024

I appreciate it for its clear influence on contemporary Prog rock, but my God I hate Phil Collins.

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Jan 13 2024

love this, sounds like early hip hop but with a contemporary feel

Microshift by Hookworms
Jan 15 2024

this was odd but i loved it. four stars only because i’m unsure of how likely i am to return to it frequently. but it was great.

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Jan 16 2024

hell yeah. one of my all-time favorites. Stevie is such a brilliant artist and there is so much music today we would have never heard if he hadn't set the stage or blazed the path. i think he's definitely one of my "desert island" artists.

Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab
Jan 18 2024

really dug this, but the looping lyrics and repetitive beats sometimes irritated my brain - would be a regular listen for me if the songs were each about 1/4 shorter

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Jan 19 2024

hell yeah this slaps. played it in the background while i cooked breakfast and felt like a chef at a resort restaurant.

Teenage Head by Flamin' Groovies
Jan 21 2024

once again, this sounds dope as hell, but a bunch of white guys from San Francisco can’t get a high rating for blues-rock. it absolutely slaps but i have to knock it down some stars on principle.

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
Jan 24 2024

i dig this, reminds me of a band i used to listen to as a teen, Maximo Park - they were definitely inspired by this album

Violator by Depeche Mode
Jan 27 2024

didn’t hate it, but wasn’t super jazzed by it. wouldn’t mind it if it was playing in a café, but probably won’t turn it on for myself.

Dry by PJ Harvey
Jan 28 2024

hell yes. i don't know how i hadn't listened to this before now but i love it.

xx by The xx
Jan 29 2024

HELL YES.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Jan 30 2024

wow. this is fantastic. wish i had this on vinyl!

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Feb 07 2024

hell yes

Marquee Moon by Television
Feb 08 2024

it’s not bad, but compared to the other albums on this list, i feel like it’s pretty mediocre.

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Feb 11 2024

i didn’t really understand what the hell i was listening to but i dug it. then i saw that this was Nick Cave’s band and it all made sense. hell yeah.

Drunk by Thundercat
Mar 01 2024

hell yes

Melodrama by Lorde
Mar 02 2024

sorry lourde but i’m not feeling it
