His music has become a parody of itself in 2024. Clips and full songs have been so overused in media, films and other sources that the songs seem to blend together and seep into the next song played. He was from my mother's generation and I am sure when the music was new and just released that it made the girls swoon and faint. in 2024 I can appreciate his music and his place in musical and film history. Making whoopy was SCANDELOUS!
Album # 2. I am not a fan of Jazz so this album was filler music while I conducted my work. Obviously he is using a lot of percussions and brass instruments and thus some of it reminded me of the band Chicago. It was nice to have on in the background on a low volume but not my cup of tea
Album #6 This is always a great album to have on in the background or on the car stereo as one drives down to Key West with the windows open and the ocean breezes flooding your world with BM lyrics and the salt air. Music that always creates a carefree experience without diving into the true meaning behind his lyrics.
Being a teenager in the 80's of course this album is the soundtrack of the decade for me. Thriller (the video) was HUGE because of how much it cost to make, that the director John Landis and the amount of effort and production that went into the making of Thriller. This was MJ swan song before the gradual fall from grace occurred. The music and lyrics can be a complete representation of the 1980's and the genre of the era. 9 tracks on this album and only ONE did not chart. I wish I could say that this album is a favorite of mine but it's not. I do find myself begin to dance as I listen to the album (PYT in particular) but that is a hold over from the HS dances on my teen years. MJ was an ubiquitous presence in the music industry for almost his entire life which to me made his music dull and repetitive.
Album #5 PG's music reminds me of a dark movie. The ones where you can't see half of what is going on because the movie is filmed in the dark. Some of the tracks he created were made to be heard but some of the tracks I had to turn the volume up to hear it completely and understand the lyrics.. Each track is very unique and shows the wide berth of PG versatility musicality and lyric capabilities. I enjoyed listening to this album in it's entirety.
Album #4 Almost 60 years later the harmonies of this group hold up to the thief of time. I have been listening the Mama's and Papa's my entire life and did not realize that Cass Elliot was the vocal powerhouse of this group and the rest were her back up's. I had not listened to this album before today and enjoyed the simple lyrics that represent the era. Post JFK but still holding onto the utopia of post WWII and before the beginning of the end with the onset of Vietnam and the slow steady slide of the US. The harmonization creates an ambiance among the lyrics that gives each song a fluid movement that makes each one unique in it's own right and can hold it's own in the track listing. Each song could have charted if allowed to enter the charts by the music industry but only 3 songs from this album charted, the ones we still hear in the elevators and grocery stores to this day.
Album #7 Unfortunately I was not able to find the full album on my music streaming service but I can imagine since it was released in 1978 that it had some pretty cool dance/disco/funk songs on it and the 11 year old me probably would have been grooving out on the dance floor at school to it.
Album #8 "Oh baby you set my soul on fire" should always be credited to Marvin Gaye because those phrases are in any song that he writes about seduction and sex. . This album played like a one night stand, From the initial track of "Let's Get It On" to the final track of "Just to Keep You Satisfied." I prefer his music from the album "What's Going On" where he chooses to focus on something besides what is in his pants and has a greater meaning to a wider audience. Unfortunately I was introduced to MG in the 80's with his hit Sexual Healing. MG is not my cup of tea and I had to push myself to listen to this album in it's entirety.
Album #9 This is the first album that i have listened to more than I care to admit. It's ADELE and not much can go wrong with ADELE. This is a comfort album. Play it in your kitchen and sing along as you scrub dishes, play it in your car and scream it out loud to all the drivers around you, hear it in the grocery story and sing along as you walk through the aisles while giving a knowing smile to the others singing along or play it in the background as you work occasionally murmuring the words as you do your work. Like many of the other albums on this list, ADELE's will stand the test of time.
Album #10 I am not a fan of GH and this album is classic GH. I don't really have anything to say about it and the only word that comes to mind when I listened to this album was "Meh!"
Album #12 I never understood the draw to Metalica that many of my classmates had back in the day. I still don't but I listened to this album entirely. I was impressed that I could understand the lyrics for the most part and it wasn't just a bunch of screaming men stroking their guitars and drum sets in a violent manner. I often see that the song 'Enter the Sandman" is listed as one of the best songs of all time, I don't see it or hear it. They weren't my cup of tea in the 80's and still aren't. I am glad that someone is drawn to their music, why, I have no clue.
Album #11 Who did it first??? JLL is off the chains and I cannot imagine the amount of energy this man had each and every concert he did when he was young. Many of the songs I have heard by JLL and other artists so I am not sure if he did them first or he was covering songs of other artists/writers in this concert. I enjoyed this album and his energy
Album #13 I am not a heavy metal fan and found this tolerable until the song Weenie Beenie which is basically DG screaming into a microphone, distorting his voice into oblivion. I have NEVER understood the appeal of this type of "music". It was all I could do to not give up on the album and shut it down. By the time I got to the last track, I was just that, "exhausted" after listening to the same drum beat and guitar riffs/chords for almost every song
Album #14 What a way to start our the day:
Oh, yeah
Oh, yeah
Everything gonna be alright this mornin'
Great album to start the day, awesome riffs and groove. The lyrics might be blues but the beat is definitely a pick me up.
Album #15
Listening to paint dry.
Interesting to compare all the other songs to the charted song "Constant Craving" as I have never heard the other songs. What made CC more appealing to the masses compared to the other tracks as they all sound the same to me now? As consumers are we trained to like a song by the constant air play (especially 30 years ago when all we had was radio play) because in my opinion after listening to the entire album, all the tracks including CC is like listening to paint dry but CC evokes an emotional/situational memory because of the radio play.
Album #16
IDK Grunge?? Emo? Dead Leaves is not a song to start the day with especially the opening guitar riff.. to paraphrase Phoebe, my ears oh my ears. I now know why this album appealed to my teenager back in the 2000's. I am absolutely positive if I was a teen during this time this album would have been on repeat.
Interestingly enough the album is playing in the background and my ears only really perked up when "We're Going to Be Friends" began to play. Out of all the tracks on this album that track has the highest rating, maybe because it is relatable and the lyrics are understood.
Album #17
Groovy Dude! Really good album, musicality and lyrics are awesome definitely represents the time and place.
Album #18
The Beatles, Van Morrison with a touch of The Banana Splits all the while still The Kinks. The music tracks have stood the test of time after all they are The Kinks. It would be awesome to go back in time and listen to the album with fresh ears during that specific era of time without the infusion of musical genre's over the past 50 years.
Album #19
The screeching of the electric guitar on some of the tracks really were annoying and some of the songs sounded like Ziggy Stardust. The album really did not appeal to me.
Album # 22...one of the best albums of all time!
Album # 23
This is true JM musicality and lyrics. Some of her music I can handle but her vocal range ends up in the higher pitches for a lot of her songs and it hard for me to tolerate. She is a living legend and it was nice to see her get her due for the 2024 Grammy Awards. Both Sides Now is not on this album and might be on another suggested album down the road but it hits hard now. Thank you JM for a life of song and lyric
Album # 24 Good music to have on in the background but mostly covers except for "I've been loving you too long." Not really my jam.
Album # 25 Typical Zombies no life , one hit wonder
Album # 27
The only song I ever liked on this album is Wild Horses but this album is quintessentially Stones
Album # 28
The album that defined and morphed my teenage years. The only album that I actually held possession of it in 8 track, vinyl, cassette, CD and then whatever streaming, iPod, tune player I possessed within the digital age. Just sorry that I won't live long enough to get an implant of this album in my brain for instant access. It's too late.
Album # 29
Fingernails gave made me think..EWWW but then I thought of Dolly and how she tells the story of when she was recording 9-5 she used her nails throughout the song. She did it, she didn't write a song about it. It's funny the only 2 songs on this album that made me think "that's a pretty good tune" were two JE did not write., West Texas Waltz" & "Honky Tonkin'"
Album # 31 Classic Dylan, not much else to say
Album # 32
Everything about this album is awesome. A legend up until the day he left us.
Album # 33
Very bluesy, reminded me of K D lang but not my cup of tea
Album # 34
Her vocals would be great if she didn't launch into a breathy whine every other verse. Like her other female singers came along after Tori (I'm looking at you Jewel) and whined their way through songs even more than Tori. Whining can be good when it is controlled (looking to you Amy Lee) but Tori made it seem like it was forced and unnatural within her vocals on this album. Hints of Kate Bush can be heard throughout the album, she should have just stuck with that vocal range.
Album # 35
If Amy Winehouse and Amy Lee had a baby, PJ would come out screaming
Album # 36
Not very engaging but still some good moments
Album # 38
The faces of all the music that would come from this genre and band. The group of musicians came together, found the sound and regurgitated their voices and chords onto musicians that followed their lead. The band members also spread out into the music universe to expand their cult of redundant 70's music culture onto an unsuspecting world.
Album # 39
It was dull and not very engaging
Album # 40
This was a very interesting album to listen to and definitely out of the ordinary listening genre's that come across my feed
Album # 41
Jazz makes for great background music while I am working or in the car when life has become too much. Good album, short and sweet.
Album # 42
Ole Blue eyes and another dude, not from my generation of music and not very memorable
Album # 43
Can't go wrong with Van Morrison
Album # 44
How is it I know every song on this album? I guess because my Gen X musical life started out on the Beatles first note and guitar strum.
#51
This is a beautiful album that really reflects the youth in AF voice from her beginnings. Very easy to listen to and enjoyable
