Brilliant follow up to Out of Time. This was REM at their 90s peak. Drive is always haunting and sounds amazing in the new Dolby Atmos mix, but I’ll always have a spot for Nightswimming. Such a lovely nostalgic song.

Another one that wasn't new to me. I listened to this quite a bit when it came out- even though hip hop isn't really my thing. Kanye has gone to shit in the past several years, but this was a fun album if you ignore the lyrics. Not my thing.

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean

Not bad overall. Kinda of soothing background beats. I probably won’t revisit this one, however. Nothing really stood out.

Sunday At The Village Vanguard by Bill Evans Trio
Feb 03 2024

Me this morning: yes, some Jazz! Yes, some Bill Evans. And one I haven't heard yet. Jazz is kind of hard for me to rate. A lot of it sounds the same to my casual/untrained ear so I have to rate it on how it makes me feel instead of its technical proficiency- which I gather is what makes a lot of great jazz albums great. This one would indeed be a wonderful album to play on a Sunday.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Feb 04 2024

I cheated and held off on listening until Sunday, since they are such a breakfast-on-warm-sunday-mornings kind of a pairing.

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
Feb 07 2024

I would have given this two stars, but I'll bump it up one because of the influence it had on so many of the albums I listened to as a teenager. Try as I might, I need some semblence of melody in my music and some of the folks who took this and ran with it really perfected the noisy guitar sound with a slight tinge of pop sensibility. (I know that's verboten in some circles, but to my ear its much more pleasant)
