Very good album overall. I really liked the second half of the album which introduced more of a blues rock/ nostalgic sound.
Quite liked it. Heavy on guitar solos. Liked the jammin' session/live vibe of the album, the psychedelic sound and the Bo Diddley lovefest on the first part of the album.
3.5/5. Good live album. Mostly upbeat, happy, sunny rock Guitar vibes. Probably not one I would go back to though.
Thoroughly enjoyed the album. It's not a typical bebop or swing type jazz album but I enjoyed the journey it takes the listener on. Evoked a range of emotions for me. I could definitely see myself listening to the album on repeat in a dark room while reflecting on things with a nice glass of whiskey in hand. 4/5
More of a folksy/root sound that I usually enjoy, however I didn't have any real highlights on the album. Love the Bob Dylan association. 2.5/5
Good improv on the album. Solid overall, a lot of Thelonious Monk music is more original and intricate/complex. The album felt fine but I didn't fall in love with it and wouldn't have it on repeat if I was in the mood to listen to a jazz playlist.
Not my genre in the first place but I couldn't really find any enjoyable tracks on the album outside of Walk. Definitely too much growling for me, although I'd happily play the album if I was ever in a rage room smashing things to bits. 1.5/5
Quite a decent album. Nice riffs and blues notes throughout. Obv holds historical significance as a precursor to heavy metal. Favourite tracks: Summertime Blues & Rock me Baby. 2.5/5
Great P-Funk album. Eddie Hazel's captivating solo on the title is definitely the stand out moment of the journey, however Hit it and quit it and Super Stupid are also timeless tracks. Lively album which reflects the psych-funk infused protest music of the time. 4.5/5
Pleasant enough to listen to but no real highlights for me. It felt like quite a bland mix of pop/rock with some jazz vibes throughout. Probably won't come back to this one. 2.5/5
Sarah's got a nice voice. Enjoyed the singing throughout and some of the improv. Not too much to say about the backing as her voice was the main standout. Relaxed and easy going jazz. I was definitely picturing a dimly lit Chicago room with old school cocktails being passed around while listening to this. Fav track: Willow Weep for me
The King!! Started boppin' my head 10 seconds into Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' and didn't stop (Okay maybe just for the girl is mine). The definition of timeless music. The middle part of the album with probably 3 of the most massive iconic and timeless hits of ever produced probably won't ever be replicated.
Good album. I typically enjoy the folk/country rock sound and this album was no exception. Nice guitar riffs throughout. Fav track is probably "Down by the River". 3.5/5
I liked the overall vibe of the album. Quite fun to listen to. Nice blend of pop rock, psy rock, dance. It feels like a blueprint of 90s britpop and I could see how they would have ended up influencing later groups like Oasis or the Verve. 3.5/5. Fav tracks: I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums,Fools gold I don't like that they're Utd fans though..
Interesting album, with some very eclectic sounds throughout. I like that he experimented quite a bit and wasn't afraid to mix up multiple genres. I liked Hotwax and Sissyneck
Classic Disco album with soulful vocals. These songs are pretty much timeless. The album gets a bit weaker over the second half but overall still very good.
Good album. More of a dark/melancholic, introspective sound that I do enjoy in spurts. The album stands the test of time and can still be appreciated now. 3.5/5
Solid album. Quite a slower/mid tempo throughout. The album gives off more of a moody/dark vibe however there's somehow also a mix of uplifting melodies.
Really enjoyed the album. Not really a single bad/terrible song on it I thought. Loved highway star. Blackmore's guitar solos and riffs are iconic.
Great classic blues album. It'd be hard to find a more seminal record than Hoochie Coochie Man and its timeless stop time riff.
Good album, bluesy rock vibes. One timeless hit. 3.5/5.
Didn't really enjoy the singing throughout. Probably a bit too 'hard' for me.
I thought the album was decent but not particularly remarkable or exciting. Definitely got Nirvana vibes as expected throughout (esp on 'Iβll Stick Around').
Really liked the album. I enjoyed the blues, folksy and soul vibes throughout. I also liked the fact that some parts of the album felt a bit gritty/unpolished and more natural. Really liked Torn and Frayed, Sweet Black Angel and shake your hips.
This one didn't do much for me. Some of the vocals were nice but I didn't particularly enjoy the overall vibe of the album. 2.5/5
I thought the album was okay to listen to without any particular highlights. It felt like very generic brit/pop. Liked the upbeat vibe throughout but this one won't get stuck in my mind. 2.5/5
3/5: Influential album for their time. Mostly melancholic lyrics with an underlying coming of age theme. Lots of mid-tempo catchy tunes. However, overall it didn't really feel like a masterpiece to me. It's fine but not exceptional. Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows are two classics though.
Good album. I liked the different themes they explored in their songwriting. Iconic guitar riffs throughout and the title track is a certified classic. 3.5/5 Fav tracks: Wasted time and The last resort
Pleasant album to listen to. This album felt really personal with a melancholic theme throughout which reminded me of Blood on the Tracks (esp "Tangled Up in Blue"). The album felt really cohesive and I liked the different compositions she was able to come up with. I'm not sure if it's the greatest album ever recorded by a female artist but I can understand why it was seen as unique and groundbreaking at the time. 3.5/5 Fav tracks: California, A case of you
Not sure how this one made it on the list of albums to listen to before you die. It felt like a really conceptual album. The first couple of tracks started off okay but I lost interest by track 4/5.
The album was pleasant to listen to. A couple of well known songs I never knew were from them (So Easy & Eple). More downtempo throughout with some catchy tunes.
Excellent Album with timeless classic tracks. Not as politically charged as Natty Dread (more peace & love themes on the 2nd half) but probably his most definitive album. I could listen to this album anytime. 4.5/5
Legendary album in terms of impact and lasting influence from The Boss. Some classic anthem type tracks that stood the test of time for the most part. Would go back to some of the songs from time to time but not the full album. Standout tracks other than the title track: Glory Days & No Surrender 3.5/5
Very good album. Janis was able to display her powerful voice throughout delivering a classic blend of bluesy rock. Fav tracks: Me and Bobby mcGee & Mercedes Benz
Didn't really like this one tbf. Not one I'll go back to. It felt very tedious to listen to after a while. Bland, 90s alt pop.
Really enjoyed this album. Great vocals throughout and the lyrics evoked a range of emotions somehow going from sad/mournful vibes to a more hopeful sound. It was my first time even hearing about Antony and the Johnsons but what a find. Fav track: Fistful of love
I found the album fine to listen to but it didn't really move me in any way, shape or form. I thought it was quite a safe blend of jazz/rock without any real standout moments. Pretty bland overall. 2.5/5
This album following Run DMC's breakthrough was really influential in terms of making rock/punk rap and hip-hop as a whole movement more mainstream in the mid 80's to early 90's. While iconic and being a fun listen overall with a legendary producer backing them, I wouldn't have it in my classic hip hop albums list.
Stevie being Stevie. I wasn't that familiar with this specific album from start to end but after listening and reading a bit more, I was able to appreciate the depth of the content along with the innovative production and use of synthesisers for the time which eventually became a staple of the contemporary R&B/Soul sound. I liked the more socially conscious tracks on the record. Too High & Living for the city.
This was a really good surprise. I wasn't familiar at all with Pakistani music or Qawwali in general, however I really enjoyed this album. Great melodies, vocals, up tempo rhythms and percussion patterns throughout. It actually reminded me of some of the West african griot music. 3.5/5 raising to a 4.
Movin' on up was a banger but it quickly went downhill from there. Didn't really enjoy the album's vibe.
Very 80s dance/pop vibes. Didn't really do it for me though. Pretty average other than "It's a Sin". 2.5/5
Solid album with a great opening. I felt the album kind of went downhill by the second half and didn't have as many enjoyable tracks though.
A few bangers on the album but I was never really a big fan of their vocals. The instrumentals and arrangements are good throughout. Standouts: Whole Lotta Love & Heartbreaker.
Enjoyable album. I kind of went into the album assuming it was going to be regular 80s Brit new wave vibes but I actually found the sound was pretty unique and interesting throughout. The standout track for me was "Uncertain Smile". 3.5/5
Decent album but some of the tracks had a quite repetitive sound and vibe. Pure Heroine is still her best work by far. 2.5/5
Didn't do too much for me. Most of the songs just kind of blended together. Quite forgettable.
Good album with bouncy disco vibes. I didn't realize how influential the album really was until I started recognising at lot of samples that were used in later R&B, Hip-hop tracks from Chic Cheer onwards. I wonder if it may not be one of the most sampled albums of all time track for track. 3.5/5
