The Beach Boys Today!
The Beach BoysNice tribute to Brian Wilson getting this called up the day after his death. Good clean surf music. Better stuff to come.

Pleasant. Good listen. Not that memorable. Probably won’t go back. Stuck in the land of 3 stars
Starts amazingly strong. Songs and skits banger after banger after banger. The second half’s drags a tiny bit and the homophobia and misogyny do not age well. Ending with criminal is a high note. Can’t give 5 because of the aging poorly. Would give 4.5 so have to go with 4. Just short of a masterpiece. First half is like 5.5 stars
Classic. One of the best ever.
Not really my jam. I get why people like this album. I like the piano and percussion. Too slow for me
Another classic. Any album with Sympathy for the Devil is going to be a minimum of 4 stars but Street Fighting Man and Salt of the Earth combined with other bluesy ruminations put it over the top
Disco faves. Nils Rogers always delivers. Some hooks carry through to today. Disco not really my thing and the slow jams aren’t either. Good for what it is.
Good background music. Could probably do work to it. Not much of a rave guy but can see the appeal
This is a cheat because it is another favorite. Great listen front to back including one of my all-time favorite songs, Warning Sign
Love the anger and cynicism. Takes on religion are still fair if simplistic. Dates but understand its value

Apparently I like Dire Straits. Great mellow listen front to back. sultans of Swing indeed.

Solid album. Bluesy guitars and drums. Southwestern feel. Didn’t mind it but not my style. Craftsmanship is very high
Another solid entry. I could see listening to this again
Never heard of these guys which is a shame because they are squarely in my wheelhouse. Fun listen and now I have to go check out their catalog. A real find for me. Thank you
Another new artist for me. Really digging the vibe. Perfect music for Sunday morning walk with my dog. Get me in the right mood. Will need to check his catalog out now too
Fine. Atmospheric. Again, I’m the wrong person to evaluate because it is not my genre. Unlike the last two, I probably will not dig deeper
Wanted to give four stars. I acknowledge the cool factor. And I like it. I just don’t love it. I’m glad 19-2000 got reintroduced to my life.
Pleasant enough. It’s utterly forgettable and should have been in my wheelhouse. Didn’t mind it. Won’t go out of my way to re-listen either
I’m glad I finally know Reuben Blades the musician. Yet another genre that isn’t one I frequent but I love the vibe. Makes me want to drink a mojito in some sweltering city near the ocean. Wouldn’t mind revisiting this place
Good. If I heard it in its time I might have played it a few times. Didn’t love the recurring gimmick of movie/media clips to start almost every song. I’m too old to hear this for the first time
I like Jack White and forget how good he is. I guess I don’t love his stuff but this was a good listen. We need more rock. This is 13 years old and still among the most recent I’ve encountered
A classic. I loved it. Wish I was in attendance. A great time
Pleasant. Good listen. Not that memorable. Probably won’t go back. Stuck in the land of 3 stars
Forgot how much I liked this album. Different and very fun
I’m a terrible critic. I have no idea what to say about these albums. Another enjoyable listen that lands in the world of 3 stars. I guess I’m just stuck on what I know.
Interesting. Good atmosphere. Just the right amount of electronics. But didn’t breakthrough my must revisit barrier. 3 stars
Interesting mix of pop, rock and hippie influences. Probably would have listens to this a lot backing the day. Sounds just a bit juvenile compared to other late 60s rock. A bridge album between silk pop and psychedelic rock.
Enjoyable instrumentals. Can see the influence it had. Wouldn’t mind another listen
Good start but dragged on seemingly interminably. Instrumentals in just couldn’t get into that also never seems to end. Might listen to individual songs again but this two-hour double disc was a chore
A little too 70s New York to me. I can see the influence and the reverence she has earned but I probably won’t seek it out again
Classic. Still love it. Been a while since I listened to it end to end. Not quite as perfect as I remember. Why can’t we give half stars? 4.5 would be ideal
Lots of respect for Mr. Dylan. And I prefer his older, more gravely voice with better pronunciation than his younger more nasally voice. But still not a regular listen. I’m going to give out more twos because this is a three but it’s better than most of the threes I’ve given so far. I need more diversification
I wanted to like this because I think I was so I fair to Brimful of Asha when it came out and some of the tracks are very good and groovy but there were too many other tracks that were just noisy IMO. This is unfortunately going to be the first victim of my harsher grading system where you need to earn a 3+.
Much respect for the Duke. Great musicianship. Good listen. Probably not going to actively register so should be a 3 but for the legend, a 4
A masterpiece. Would give 6 stars if I could. Everything I like about music. Inventive, rich and deep. More like this.
Fun re-listen. I really like Sheryl’s sound and vibe. Tory between a 3 and a 4. I guess my tastes are pretty basic because this does it for me
That’s great. It starts with an earthquake. What a great listen. Another classic.
The birth of emo? I’ll be honest. The cure are not my favorite. His pleading / whining / singing is something I can take in doses but not for a full album. I know people love this band. I am not one of those people
Great album. Bluesy with unapologetic lyrics. Completely tragic in hindsight. Gone way too soon.
Fun mix of Mexican rhythms and hip hop and rap. Will check these guys out a bit more
I know he’s a titan and it’s a well made record but too depressing for me to listen too often
Starts with a bang. Fun all the way through. Good times
Masterpiece. One of the all time greats
Some legit bangers and I want to love Queen. However too many different styles colliding here not all of which work for me so I’m stuck at like and admire. Still a lot to admire though
I was aware of I’ve T but didn’t listen to a lot of him back in the day. This album is legit. I get why he was so popular. Material is dates of course and therefore some of it is questionable but it was really good early 90’s rap
A few bangers and I really respect Tina and love her voice. However there is way too much 1989s randomness and doing too much with weird covers mixed in to boot. Best to just replay the few hits
Early punk. Young dumb and fun. But too early for me. Not rock enough but not punk enough yet. Not funny enough. In its time I probably would have loved it but now more artifact than entertainment.
Awesome early 2000s hip-hop. I heard of these guys but never dove in. My mistake. I’ll be back
Groundbreaking. Legendary. All the props going her way. However, this album is very dated. I wasn’t k produced to it until now and it all felt one note. It’s a good note but one note nonetheless.
Sweet and lovely. A very pleasant listen. Beautiful
All-time classic
Good listen. A lot cleaner than I expected From an audio perspective. Not fuzzy or distorted. Not sure why I expected that but it threw me. Enjoyed but didn’t love
Nice tribute to Brian Wilson getting this called up the day after his death. Good clean surf music. Better stuff to come.
Brilliant artist. Album gets a bit repetitive with most songs sounding similar at first listen. Still. Really great listen
Enjoyed the album. Provocative lyrics. Very listenable.
Fine effort. Listenable. Never rose above background for me. 2 stars just because I’m becoming a harder grader with 1001 classic albums. Below average for those, not for all albums ever.
Classic. One of the very best few. The music. The lyrics. The vocals. The drama. Does not get better.
Fun early 2000s rap. Love an English accent when rapping. The old school song worked for me. Decent listen but doesn’t rise above the noise. 2 stars in my harsher review structure but not bad.
My personal dislike of Eric Clapton’s right wing turn may affect this rating but there are great, great songs here. Layla being the obvious choice. But also too much indulgent Blues from white guys from the UK co-opting black music. If I want to hear that I’ll stick with the Stones or Zeppelin lol
