I liked the album.
While it doesn't strike me as revolutionary or life-changing, I enjoyed what what felt like playing with form and rhythm coupled with instrumental virtuosity. Limelight was probably my favorite song on the album just due to the lyrics. I can see why there are some very hot or cold takes on this band as a whole, and if you can't get over the lead singer's voice you'll probably have a hard time with this, but I listened to it outside on a breezy 60 degree day while doing yardwork, and the last track played before I even knew it and I didn't feel like I wasted the time or would have rather listened to another album. Not sure I'd recommend it as a favorite, but not bad at all.
I liked it a lot.
I listened to this while making coconut macaroons on Easter. Something about the condensed milk made this feel more appropriate. The sweet, thick and smooth nature of it paired well with Ms. Simone's style. Almost every song felt like, apart from just a song, it had been steeped in something else. Call it emotion, call it something at the same time contemplative and primal (maybe call it soul), I don't know. Every track seemed like you were being wrapped with a different blanket. A lot of the songs made me wish they were written/sung for me, that someone could love me with what it felt like she was loving with. Rating could go up but not down.
Exceptional.
I listened this while doing the dishes and making iced tea.
I'm trying to think of what they could have done to make the album better, and failing. It just seems like the apex of a musical trajectory, where a group is making the best music that they can make while still retaining their own style, being distinctly themselves.
Haven't listened to this album in a good 15 years and forgot what a singular experience it was. There is such an ache at certain parts it's really touching.
You'd never expect this kind of sound from a group called The Beach Boys, and that's just one of the things that makes this such a special album.
It's a good album.
I can't rate it higher because the parts of it that were annoying really make it hard to take seriously. There's a bit too much harmonica and poetics, and I have a hard time really feeling the more blues-influenced tracks. The other songs that don't hit for me are when I just can't take his voice/inflections. The songs that are good are really good though. Like when it works, it works.
I really liked this album.
It took a couple of playthroughs to grow on me, but overall a really solid album with a nice arc and a lot of really memorable tunes, and great performances from the clientele. I'm not familiar with a ton of jazz records, but this would make my shortlist for ones I'd recommend. Has one of the best drum tracks I've heard in jazz.
Seminal post-punk (for me at least). It's not perfect or life changing, but does feel groundbreaking. I really love some of the songs on this album, but I can't get over how little I like Take Me to the River.
Decent noise album. Reminded me of Don Caballero. I appreciated the energy, but there wasn't enough other stuff there for me to give it more than 3 Stars.
I liked this album.
I listened to it while trying to decide whether to make brownies or just make dinner. After the first track, which I had to rewind to make sure I heard what I heard, I decided to just start dinner.
I like Randy Newman, but after The Family Guy skit on him I have a hard time listening to him without having a little chuckle. He does have a way of singing things like he is describing them, and he kind of never stops. That said I think that some of the songs are really clever, some are really heartfelt, and the album warrants more listens, as did Sail Away. The rating could go up with more listens, but 3.5 feels good for now.
I liked it.
Some epic metal anthems, some great singing. The lyrics are a little juvenile at times, which makes it hard to hold up to aging, but overall a solid album.

I like this album a lot.
Bluesy, funky, played by a guitar god. It didn't feel as cohesive as I would have liked, almost like a bunch of singles thrown together, but there's quite a bit of juice there. A lot of bops mixed in with some genre/era defining tracks.

I liked this album.
I thought some of the songs seemed like it was their bands version of x band's song. When I realized that they were formed from remaining members of Joy Division, some of that made sense. I did enjoy the album lyrically, and it was nice to move around to while making dinner.

Makes me wish I spoke Portuguese. Makes me wish I'd heard it a lot earlier than a few days ago. Finding out about stuff like this is one of the reasons I love music so much. Beautiful mixture of what felt like Beatles/Moody Blues/Love conceptualizations with Latin vibes and some nice funk at times. Overall felt like a really special album that you want to know the history of. Probably one of my favorite albums, but I have a lot. I would definitely recommend it.
4.5
I liked this album.
A really nice mellow one to chill/cook vibe to. A light fun 30 minute jaunt, well played.
3.5
I liked this album.
While a lot of it felt a bit overdone and corny at some points, there were some really cool parts as well (when I couldn't tell for 3/4 of a song whether or not it was a person or an instrument.) Overall it felt like I was in a scene in Crooklyn for most of the album, and I have no problems with that.

I'm sorry to say I wasn't at all familiar with Phil Collins /Genesis in the way they are presented here. I knew him as more of a pop figure, which I guess is due the fact that you NEVER hear this old Genesis stuff on the radio. I may have to do some research as to why because the music is definitely good enough to be played/talked about. It's just as good as a lot of Rush stuff, and some Pink Floyd as well. Not sure if that's some sort of heresy, but there you have it. I liked the theatricality and virtuosity of a lot of the songs. They seemed like they were really trying to make good challenging music on this album. Definitely a lot of surprises, and while not all of it went over without any hiccups, I think there's something in every song to roll around and it's rewarding on subsequent listens.

I liked this album.
Aside from the songs I've heard a million times before (which are obviously some of the strongest on the album) there wasn't a lot of meat on this one for me. It's missing a bit of energy that maybe you don't get that often in the genre that makes something stick around in your head and needs to be heard again. But it could just be that the familiar songs are a bit too familiar and the rest just don't add up to something more worthy of a replay.

I liked this album.
I was breaking down boxes and taking out the trash while I listened to it. It starts with one of my favorite songs of all time. I feel like this is an album I'd like to own, it just has a coolness to it. Like it just feels like a recording of a session or show that no one intended to make an album of. There are some spots where that spontaneity feels overworked, and some of the technical elements that they lean into feel like they could have been shortened (a few guitar solos or intros), it's like they don't have to care because you are just listening to them do their thing. They didn't ask for you to come in.
3.75
I liked this album.
I was not crazy about the first track, but the second track came in clutch. It's a really laid back, jammy (drugged out?) session with a lot of noodling and you feel that a lot in the first track. The second track Was u more interesting piece that I'd like to hear again.

I really liked this album.
I've listened to it a few different times over the years, and I think it's one of the more memorable hip hop albums I think I've ever heard. It almost feels like an encyclopedia of beats. Very abstract/experimental parts and some dynamic vocals and a lot of fun mixed in. Playful in tone while serious in delivery, technically well crafted and felt like it was still always reaching for it's limits. I think I'll start to listen to it in like 4-5 round bursts every 2-3 years. Worth owning I think.
4.5
I Liked this album.
The vibe felt light, although there were a few hard time songs, and a lot of the subject matter is about lost/leaving love. I liked the interplay of the different vocal ranges and found myself doing the little temptation shuffle a few too many times. I got the sense that it's not their best work as it didn't feel like a cohesive album from them, but overall a worthwhile listen.

I liked this album.
I feel like I didn't really like Fear of a Black Planet the first time I heard it, so I'll have to go back and listen because I thought I wouldn't enjoy this, but ended up liking it. Powerful educational tunes for the most part. Songs that make you want to fight, stand up, or sometimes just laugh. It felt really ahead of it's time, maybe things have just been effed up for a really long time though.
3.5
I liked this album.
Enjoyed the idea of a concentric theme. A few of the songs were really good, and I liked the informative thread that ran through it. I feel like the storytelling theme fell short at points but for an intro to southern rock It was good.
3.5
I didn't like this album.
A couple of the songs were really catchy, but overall it felt really repetitive and maybe a bit too upbeat for me.
2.5
I really liked this album.
I might just be a sucker for instrumentals, or sample hunting or I don't know. Very good songs all through this one, and some threads to a lot of hip hop and a really nice classy porno vibe to the whole thing.
4.0
I liked this album.
Decent first effort with some instant classics. The rest of them that haven't been played a million times are much more forgettable. Some nice Bowie-esque moments at points, but overall a good old fashioned dirtbag rock album.
3.0
I really liked this album.
Wish I'd heard it sooner. Moody and upbeat, worth further listening.

I liked this album.
A few songs have a lot of nostalgia for me. I had the Son of Sam / Happiness single as my introduction (I know) to Elliot Smith and I feel like I loved it so much when I first got my hands on it. This album overall doesn't really hold up it's end of the bargain in light of that first taste, nor does it stand up to a lot of the great music he made before this album. It's a bit too far into the pop LA commercial rock area that it felt like he wanted to ease into. I don't know. Some of my favorite songs are on this album, but there's only ~3 of them and the rest don't get the job done.
3.25
I liked this album.
But there wasn't anything that really stood out about it. Very vibey at points, reminded me of Stereolab. Again, nothing about the lyrics or music makes me think I'll constantly revisit it, or even remember it in a few months.
3.25
I liked this album.
It's got a bit of a B-sides feel to it, but all of the songs are good. Technical proficiency abounds, but It doesn't all come together somehow.
3.25
I liked this album.
And I don't usually like live albums, but this one feels more like a comedy album set to music, and I like that about it. I like pretty much all of the songs, and though his voice is unconventional, it's only really off-putting on a few tracks. Overall very enjoyable.

I liked this album.
Really great jazz standard style music with a lot of reverence. I like Louis' presence on this album quite a bit. The good songs on this are some of my top jazz tunes.
3.5
This album was OK.
Listened to the deluxe version, but I'll just base the review on the 1st disc since disc 2 was mostly outtakes. I think that Little Richard is talented as an artist. He has great presence/power in his voice, but the songs themselves are much too thin for me to rank the album higher. There are about 2-3 styles he shows up with, and every song is some variation of those flavors. There's tutti-frutti, Rip it up, and then slow. Like you can sing tutti-frutti over half of these songs and it will fit. Take me back 50-60 years and it might be a 4 or so, but for now.
2.5/5
I liked this album.
Very memorable riffs and songs. This band is one of the ones that you will not be able to escape if you are interested in rock/pop from the 60s/70s. I don't think that's a bad thing, but a lot of this music has power because it's fused with memories of other things. A song from a movie I love, the romanticism of drugs, the strong "sampling" of African American culture.
While I'm not sure if the subject matter holds up some 50 years later, it's definitely a good group of tracks from one of the legends of rock and roll.
3.5/5
I didn't like this album.
The only reason it's not lower is because it has some decent guitar work and there are some moments where it feels like the get into a decent jam. I'm not a fan of live albums in general, but this one really annoyed me at some points. Between the off-key caterwauling, derivative ad-libs, and a full track of feedback that I'm supposed to sit through like I'm not begging for the whole thing to be over, it was more pain than pleasure to listen to. Yes, I've heard and like Grateful Dead music before this, but this is not the one for me. I hope if I have to listen to another live album from them that it's a little more tolerable, but I don't think I can ever listen to this one again unless it's by accident.
1.5/5
I liked this album
I listened to this while making carne asada for dinner (coincidentally). I like to think some of the spirit of this album transferred to the meal, because it was a pretty good batch. This is fun music, like for a big party. I checked out some of the translations for the lyrics, and it does have some heavier subject matter, but mostly songs about love and life. Just good music without many aspirations to be much more that than (which is so refreshing.) Jazzy, upbeat, and holds up to multiple playthroughs.
3.75/5
I liked this album
but I'm not really happy with this app right now, since it just erased a paragraph I spent 20 minutes thinking about and writing.
I think you only need to listen to this a handful of times, but that you should listen to it once. It is very scary the places this music takes your (my?) mind, and it's a challenging listen for a few reasons. jangly, brutal, primal, murderous. More a performance art piece than something I can come back to for enjoyment over multiple listens.
3.25/5
I liked this album
I'm just going to base it off what I was able to get through. If I end up listening to the other 4 hrs (!) worth of B sides and remixes included on the the super deluxe version and it's worth updating, I'll come back and do that. What I was basically able to do was disc one and half of disc 2, which is different versions of the songs on disc 1. I liked the songs, but the thing about prog rock that I don't like is that it gets to a point that I like what they're doing then switches to a completely different thing at the drop of a hat. This happens in other genres, but I feel like there's always more of a bridge or linking element in them. Overall had some really nice moments, but nothing to hang onto.
3/5
I really liked this album.
Feels like a classic rock and roll album. The music is not 100% my cup of tea, but everything about it feels iconic and on point. I'm not crazy about most of the songs being covers, but that's Elvis for you I guess. He has great presence on the songs, and they are all well produced. They all have great instrumentation, and you're in and out in less than 3 minutes. Was surprised by Blue Moon - Take 9/M, it really has stood the test of time. Sounds completely in place in 2026, very haunting cool track. Definitely worth coming back to.
4.75/5
I really liked this album.
One of those bands that would be hard to rip off, not just because they blend a lot of styles in their music, but because the lead singer's lyrical style is so unique, The blending of insight and humor and sex is something I noticed immediately from having heard other newer songs, and I was like "oh it's that guy". He's like a dirty Elvis Costello. Their big hit (Common People) is on this album, and you can listen to that a million times and it will still be just as good and just as true as the first time. A lot of the other songs are just as memorable. I've listened to it about 2.5 times as of writing this, and it's still opening up. A great effort.
4/5
I liked this album.
There are a couple of good obscure (to me) songs that I really liked (But I'm Different Now, Boy About Town), but a lot of the songs are decent and could get multiple spins in the future. There's a lot of threads in this album, I'm not versed enough in the time to know if it's before or after this band, but they cover a ton of prototypical punk sounds. Proto, pop, post all the P's are in there.
3.5/5
I liked this album.
Every song is at least decent, with One being one of my favorite (U2?) songs, but I don't feel like any of them stand out aside from a couple. It's a bit too world weary and earnest, like it's trying to hard to be poetic and poignant. When it hits the mark, it's amazing, but a lot of the time it seems a bit overperformed and almost laughably melodramatic. Not sure how many times I need to hear this one aside from a few notable tracks (5, 7-10), but I didn't hate listening to it at any point.
3.25/5
I really like this album
Hard pressed to find a bad song on this one. Some of my favorite songs by the band on this album. So many songs that still stir something in me even though I've heard them tens of times before. I realize I don't even know the exact lyrics to most of them, and that just adds another layer of enjoyment. I'm way more familiar with this band on a track by track basis, but piecing their catalog together by album is great way to relearn it. I'm sure it's something you'll either love or hate, but I will always love this band, One of those that can't be recreated. Will listen to this many more times until my ears don't work anymore.
4.5/5
I love this album.
Such a nice vibe to this. ended up listening to it a few more times than I'd planned just because you put it on and just jam for 40 minutes or whatever and then it's over. Every song on this one has such great replay value. A lot of funk/disco tracks so jammy and full of smarm (I think I mean swank here). You do the stank face and move around to it. Blue-eyed soul the way only Bowie can pull it off. Have to give it a 5.
