Rush
Rush has never landed on my radar. They sound like what the love child of led
Zeppelin and queen might. This album was some kind of operatic experiment that didn’t land with me. I think this was one of their later albums so maybe I will try an earlier effort before righting them off. 2/5

Chirping Crickets
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Like an old friend that you almost forgot about. You can hear the massive influence of elvis here. Buddy was moving away from pure country and into rock and roll. This album is full of classics. 4/5 for history alone. I’m not a lover of this era of two minute/3 chord staples. The Beatles show up soon and start to mix it up

American IV: The Man Comes Around
Johnny Cash
I remember very clearly when these albums came out. This was a huge deal with the man in black being produced by Rick Rubin. Revisiting this was a little bitter sweet. I did very much enjoy reading listening to his covers of personal Jesus and hurt, but much of this album sounds like they wheeled an old man into a studio and gave him some words to sing. The depth and authority of Cash’s voice have left him and the frail tones are effective in song like the title song and also hurt, but on much of this album after 20 years to me is not as effective.
3/5 for nostalgia

Meat Is Murder
The Smiths
The Smiths are another band that never really landed with me, maybe I never liked Morrisseees' whining? Maybe it was too highbrow for a 10 year old. Either way I have mixed feelings about this album. I enjoyed the music a lot. Johnny Marr is really strong on this. Not so much Morissees droning voice. The Joke isn't funny anymore was for me the biggest highlight of an album where all the songs pretty much blend into each other...

Bringing It All Back Home
Bob Dylan
This would be the first time I have listened to an entire Dylan album, and it will be the last. I don't get Bob Dylan, I never have and have no interest in trying. I had heard a lot of this before and I managed to get through it, but he isn't my thing.

Can't Buy A Thrill
Steely Dan
So Steely Dan, early 70s soft rock. A couple of genuine classics here with Reelin in the years, and Do it again which have aged beautifully and I still hear them all the time. The rest of the album sounds like background piano bar music to me. I won’t be looking for this again soon though. 3 stars for writing a couple of bangers though

Such a great hang! I love the accoustic songs sprinkled through this blues rock classic! I could listen to this all day.

Bad
Michael Jackson
In my opinion this was Jackson’s best album. It was a time when music was so big and he was so famous and the videos were mini oovies. Man in the mirror is the standout for me, but pretty much every song was a single. I don’t think ithe production has aged that well , and obviously neither has Jackson.

Obviously a classic and hugely influential, but much like Chuck Berry they stuck to a very specific formula until the music world past by.
