Low 4 for me. The familiarity of the singles makes the album pretty meh—a 3, but the good songs are really good. “God Put A Smile…” & “Daylight”. Also when that guitar comes in on “AROBTTH”, the song becomes unboring.
Strong 4. Might become a 5 after all these years. The slowwww songs kill the vibe for me. Fave song is definitely “Grace”!! “Dream Brother” is right behind that.
I really like “Zero” & “Heads Will Roll”, but the rest was while musically interesting, lyrically boring. Too much repetitive for me. I didn’t love the album, but I’d buy the two singles.
Absolutely horrific & boring!!!! No redeeming qualities!
Surprisingly listenable & not overly heavy for metal. I liked the album as a whole. Would probably listen to “Changes” as a single or the album as a whole.
Definitely can tell how they influenced so many artists. Could listen to as background music, but I enjoy the newer artists more.
I’m not a big punk fan. I can appreciate the album, but it’s not really for me. I did like “Alone, Together” most of all the songs.
Several good songs. Could listen to again. Low 4
Not bad considering I have never heard of this in my life. Chill background music.
I don’t wanna rate this 3, so it gets a 4. Also classic. You can’t beat “Beat It”.
I don’t know how to rank this. It’s definitely not the worst I’ve heard and very far from the best. I thought I liked “Move Any Mountain”, but I didn’t like it so much this time, besides the chorus. As a whole, it’s long AF. As a whole, it wouldn’t really bother me being on low in the background, unlike some of my 2 & 1 ratings. I’m torn. So 2.5, rounds up to 3. Mehhhhh
Death may not be the end, but death definitely works better for Nick Cave. This album is so much better than The Boatman’s Call. Not me buying it better but I could listen to it again better. It’s actually pretty amusing.
Wow. Totally bizarro. Half early rap, half kid-like, & half artsy Technasia. Enjoy that math. lol Also not for me but not Bruce Springsteen bad.
Not as good as a whole as I remembered but still good.
It’s ok. Not the best or worst. I’d relisten. Trying too hard to sound cool in some songs.
Hits differently once you have lost the one who loved it. Not my favorite Floyd album but an absolute classic nonetheless.
I've always thought of myself more of an Oasis fan than Blur, with the occasional catchy tune, a couple from each album or so. (See my music collection for only owning Blur's greatest hits.) I think this is the first entire album I've listened to of theirs. Besides the kitschy tunes here & there, it's a solid album. Favorite songs I've never heard prior to today are "London Loves" & "Trouble In The Message Centre". Solid 4/5.
Super solid. Super lush. Super good.
I didn’t expect to like this…and I didn’t. Having said that, I don’t mind “The Weight” & “This Wheel’s On Fire”. Funnily enough, I liked the first outtake song after the regular album just about more than all the other songs! “Yazoo Street Scandal” It’s definitely better than Springsteen.
I of course know a lot of Van Halen, but I don’t believe I’ve ever listened through an entire album of theirs. We all know EVH is a guitar god. Listening through proves that. The guitar is part of the entire narrative of the music. It all makes sense when you listen. That guitar has its own life. lol This was quite enjoyable.
Ahh, Mr. Zappa. I really wanted to like this Hot Rats album, but it sounded like a lot of noise tonight. I can hear how it is musically complex. I appreciate it, but today I don’t luv it.
This was a steaming pile of trash. I believe I have heard part/all of "TV Party" before. I would literally be that mother asking their kids, "What in the world is that noise you're listening to?" if my kids dared to listen to it. (Not their taste either.) I just don't get the entire punk thing. I have never wanted to rebel in that sense. I was and will forever be human and need to be loved, just like everybody else does.
Wow. I just finished mushy banana music album. This doesn't speak to me in any way. My brain feels like it just came off a trip, if I knew what that felt like. I can get how it was important at the time, but I'm not a fan of the hipster poet music.
God, this is so boring. I didn’t like it back in the 80s when my friends did & definitely not now. Blister In The Sun is alright, but that’s about it.
It’s fine for background music if you don’t have to actually listen to it. I love the first PSB album. This I didn’t. It was decidedly meh.
Had a hard time stomaching the first song. Next few songs were fine. At “Lorelei”, I started enjoying it a little more.
It’s fine. Neither the best nor the worst. I like this version of Grapevine better than others.
So this music isn’t the worst overall. It’s listenable in short doses. BUT the 19 minute song messed it all up. -1 for annoyingness & length. Mehhhhhhhh
The music is ok. I recognize several songs. I just don’t relate or feel any connection with this.
Very throwback feeling more than I would have thought. It’s ok. I think I like “Heart Of Glass” more than I thought. That’s it. Definitely better than my other recent albums.
Smooth, pure, unadulterated jazzzzz. +1 for being the real deal, & not junk from the Weather Channel’s on the 8’s.
Much better than their sophomore album.
Jeez. I was thinking of adding a star because it was so short, but it was so annoying by the end, it felt twice as long. No star for you!
I love Yes. I can’t say I love this. I suppose I love certain Yes albums. The last song was the best.
I’m really of the mindset that I like the Stones more with their Greatest Hits vs a regular album. Very blues driven. I liked “Ventilator Blues”. I only knew one song overall. Album 3/5, greatest hits 4/5.
Quintessential oldies. “California Dreamin’” will live on forever. Not something I would want to listen to all the time but not horrible.
Oh dear. Björk, what happened, chica? This was absolutely excruciating. 10 minute song followed by an 8 minute song, another 2? 8 minute songs…. Of. Noise. What happened to the angelic voice that sang “Regina”? Even mushy banana Velvet Underground was more tolerable than this. Never thought I’d give Björk a 1 ever, but here I go. “Notget” was most tolerable.
This started off diabolically horrible. Got a little better after the 3rd song. Then worse again. First time I’ve heard that c word in a song, I think. Least worst was “There Is A Kingdom”. I want to feel cool & like it; not gonna happen though.
I never thought this would happen either, but I’m giving MJ a 5. I think I really enjoyed this because it was not played into the ground like Thriller. Last 4 songs are poppin’ off. My least fave is “Man In The Mirror”—not really my style of song but the message is spot on. “Leave Me Alone” is my theme song. This was my first time to listen to the album as a whole. I had mostly moved beyond pop radio into alternative by the time this was released.
Boy, did The Bee Gees come a long way from here. This is shite.
A boring Neil Young. The last 2 songs were better than all of the rest of the album. Run of the mill folksy music. Meh
Truthfully I’m not a fan of this Elton John phase. This was boring. Not as bad as his newer releases though.
I really liked this. Dude’s voice reminds me of Damon Albarn. I hear bits that remind me of many bands: Shudder To Think, Gorillaz, Massive Attack, Portishead, Mutemath. I enjoy intelligent music, with plays on words. The beats are unique. Glad I discovered this!
It’s fine. There’s no denying the talent of Stevie. This is just ok to me.
There are some genres I don’t understand, get, whatever you wanna call it. This is one of them. I guess because it’s not the late 60s protesting against war or whatever, I don’t feel it. Idk, it puts me to sleep.
This album takes me to another place & time. “Walking Wounded” is such a wonderful song. I may like it more than “Missing” overall. Tracey Thorn’s voice is 100. “Wrong” is another great one. Gotta balance some of these albums out on this list for the bad ones.
It started great, kinda went downhill. Slow songs are long and boring for the most part.
I forgot Sugar was Bob Mould’s band. I remember “If I Can’t Change Your Mind” from Alternative Nation back when MTV still played some music. I thought it was ok then. I don’t remember if I’ve heard any of the other songs from the album. In any case, I’m so glad I’ve heard them now! 33 years later and I can really appreciate this now. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m feeling generous. This is what I like to (re)discover.
Surely you must be joking! Seriously, what is this & how did these people get a record deal? FFS
I like The Who like I like the Stones, more of a greatest hits person, except less than the Stones. All songs are early rock/blues except “My Generation” stands out. Imagine that.
I don’t like this album as much as Don’t Tell A Soul, but I enjoyed it.
I like shoegaze. I prefer the lush sound of Lush. There are some guitar &/or other sounds that make my ears unhappy.
I liked this one more than the other one I listened to.
I'm noping the nope out. Hard. Freaking. No. GFY, Taylor.
My dad loved this. I think it’s ok. Carlos Santana is a masterful guitar player. 3.5 stars
I like The Doors. This is fine. It doesn’t excite me or anything.
Very enjoyable to listen to.
This album is amazing. Having said that, it sends me to the edge, the brink of despair. I did not listen to it today because I might fall over that edge if I did listen. I don’t have the testicular fortitude to handle it right now.
