1001 Albums Summary

Country Honk was a fun song between muddled songs in the middle. Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want alone make this a worthwhile listen.

This is not my style at all but I do recognize a high level of artistry. Feels like a passion project, like Pet Sounds. I may have enjoyed it more if I did not know the band going into it.

Some real classics and a few that did not quite seem to belong.

I’m not sure what I expected but this was not it. The vocal range was particularly interesting.

Hadn’t listened to Steely Dan in years. It was good to hear his voice again.

Nostalgic, with a unique sound.

Nostalgic early punk with a unique sound. Not my thing but I can appreciate its place in history.

My gosh, talk about laying it all out there! The raw lyrics combined with vocal talent make it clear why this is on the record list.

This was a total surprise. Loved the uptempo songs and the horn section.

Mixed bag with some fun selections and a few that fell flat. I enjoyed the overall sound much more than expected.

The White Stripes were seen as THE musicians back in the day. I did not understand the oversized appeal back then. It is the same today.

This is a true banger of an album!

More musical and lyrical than much of the music in this genre.

There must be an audience for this, but it is not me.

This music is new to me. It felt like one of those random encounters with strangers where you each share your life stories then walk away and never see each other again. The appreciation in Dear Mama was a gut punch.

A solid example of the genre.

What a voice. But that melancholy mood can only be taken in small doses.

Another one that held up over the years.

The talent and layering of styles is impressive for a debut album. The misogyny is unpalatable though.

The voice and urgency are compelling. But, not much here that really sticks with me.

I am all for an album that tells a story but this was unbearable. Listening to Arthur was like sitting through a young writer reading their first novel out loud. Word play, subtlety, and expanded vocabulary would have made it easier to listen to.

What was this?

Holds up well over time.
