It’s hard to rate innovative music post-post-post-innovation. The vibes were fun, I liked the separate, distinguishable sound for each musician.

Felt very familiar - I recognised a few songs, and their style has been consistent through to the later stuff I probably know better.

Narrative albums with recurring motifs are cool.

I liked the (now) retro horn sounds and old school delivery and beats. Maybe 3 or 4 songs on this album I’d listen to based on first listen. Some of the stuff a bit too antic, percussive, and unpolished to my uneducated ear.

Epic, stirring, uplifting.

I wanted to dislike this! But I couldn’t - bar the odd acid flashback of manga haired guitarists jumping off speaker stacks, there was lots to like here. Weird song title mash-ups means loving and hating the same song. Jesus of Suburbia was very enjoyable.

Listening to this album made me teenaged for fifty minutes. I listened to it and read about the band at the same time. And then I read about CL. I know what power pop is now. Kind of. John said his favourite Hole album is Live Through This. I’m listening to it now.

Vibes! A good morning album, to listen to when driving or walking to work. Sometimes a bit cheesy, but mostly pleasing to hear all the themes and ideas from blues, and the those that show up metal albums later.

Musically it’s pleasant, with some engaging stuff, but the real joy is in the lyrics. So funny and human. A delight.

Pastime Paradise is unreal (it’s a crime I didn’t know it’s the basis for Gangster’s Paradise), but there are 21 tracks on the Spotify result for this album, and I could only fit in the first nine on this listening session, so I’m hedging my bets on a four star.

I enjoyed the DIY aesthetic, and the youthfulness. It reminds me that the emotional quality of music is so important.

Spare Parts I was my favourite song. Atmospheric album. Comes with its own ambience.

LOADS of great songs on this album. A fun listen.

Another fun listen. Lots of energy and humour. Punk but melodic in a clashy, trashy way.

Boppy sixties pop-rock. Pleasant, a bit anachronistic lyrically - feels like the imagined female audience is being condescended to in a couple of the songs.

Energetic and revitalising, a literal banger.

Enjoyable retro-pop feel to some songs, and the futuristic sound I know better from her later albums on others. Didn’t get to listen to the full thing.

Sounds like daytime film scheduled on weekend TV when I was a child. Comfort and nostalgia.
