1001 Albums Summary

Knew I knew a few songs here. Didn't know I knew nearly all of them. Really striking and engaging lyrics throughout. Shorty goes hard.

Sounds really nice, not exactly my speed. The songs blend together a bit. There would often be 15 seconds I *loved* from a song that I will certainly forget in whole. Indian Summer has my favorite moments but it's not a song I'm rushing back to. Amazing moments in songs that aren't. Amazing songs on an album that isn't. This is album number 2 of 1001 lauded albums. Trying to rate with that in mind. Giving it a 2, but should be a 3.

It's Sinatra - so expect incredible love songs. This album doesn't disappoint where that is concerned. Each song is wonderful on it's own, but as an album it feels repetitive at times. With that said, the songs are *really* good.

Insane voice, wonderful recording. Feels like you're a member of the crowd, reacting to Sarah's hiccups and ad libs. Maybe a bit too long and repetitive.

Rockier, bluesier than expected. Guitar work across the album is exceptional. Favorite two songs were the "Jamaican Versions", so I imagine I'd rate that version of the full album higher. Still a very good listen. Light and enjoyable at times; heavy and contemplative at times.

One of my favorite albums ever, this one's a gimme. Yippy and noisy and mellow and punchy and. Sonically, it's like candy to me.

Great album. Great voice, jazzy instrumentation.

Some stank face blues rock. Really enjoyable stuff. Couple songs I really dug. Went into this only having heard the Otis cover. Went out pleasantly surprised. Bit too Led Zeppy at times, and sometimes just felt like a a caricature of old blues rock, but I imagine this was refreshing after the glam rock and synth heavy 80s. I just don't have that thirst to quench.

So so smooth. Sexy and jazzy and real easy to sink into. You get what you get with Sade.

Really love this stuff. Great story telling, super spacey, almost spooky vocals. Lots of beauty and desperation, some bits really give me the chills. Feeling fivey.

Sultry and bubble-gummy. Some enjoyable stuff, but didn't scratch the itch for me. Son of a Preacher man is obviously a banger. The Windmills of Your Mind cover is real nice. Didn't latch onto much else really, but is certainly good-listenin' music.

Pretty good, sort of boring. Good album to throw on but it didn't engage me too much.

You're a flower, you're a river, you're a raaainbow Idk not for me. Some good lyrics and enjoyable piano tunes. Whiplash on that first song, but the sentiment brought me back.

Little too goofy and whimsical. Some really cool sounds, especially for that time, and a unique experience, but the story through the back half is a bit tiresome. Favorite song was the version of The Journey without the yapping.

Pleasantly surprised by this one. One of those massive bands I wrote off as not for me. There are some shoegazey stuff here and there. Some great songs, some great singing. More complex than I expected.

Loved this one for a long time. Real tender and gentle. Real dynamic and urgent. All over the place in a good way. Giving it a 4 because I'm an asshole.

Dig it. Never listed to Mars Volta. Really liked this one out of the gate. Kind wore on me a bit, the vocals can be too theatrical. Drumming is amazing, the range of sounds is amazing. All in all an interesting listen; can see this one growing on me.

Super duper Irish. Amazing songwriting, playful and heartbreaking. If I'm at a pub dancing in a circle with beer splashing out of my glass, it's a 5.

Super on the nose, an obvious product of its time. Favorite part of the album is the sound. Really dirty and garagey. Sets a tone that fits well with what they're out to accomplish. Some ripping guitar. I'm just not horny enough for Satan.

Love me some Elliot Smith. Really quiet and personal. A real "time and place" album, but if you're in that place at that time, there's not much better.

Gorgeous stuff, they just absolutely nail it.

It's alright. I really dig noise rock but find this record to be a little too repetitive. Lot of songs grab me but don't take me anywhere. Time and place. I'll be coming back to this more often than some albums here that I rated 3's and 4's.

Beautiful, easy listening. Don't really know how to listen to or critique jazz. Gonna keep this one with me.

Hip-twisting music, fun stuff. Not much to analyze here.

A ways down my Stones list. The hits are great but nothing else grabs me much. Not better than the worst Beatles record. Girls are stupid to be fair.

Fun and sexy. Prince is the goat. Some songs drag a bit too much.

Grumbly and sexy and smoky and poetic. Stank face inducing. Not as weird as Tom Waits gets but pretty weird.

Some really great, tender stuff. Most Elvis albums feel more like compilations but this feels like a proper album.

Nice rockin tunes. A real trip

Poppy brit punk. Good stuff that would work a lot better at a different time in my life. Still dug it.

Overplayed the hits on this one. Never heard the rest of it and I really dug it. I guess credit is due to the songs I find annoying today because of how much I once loved them.

Man I love this record. Awesome atmosphere, awesome songwriting. Highs and lows.

Kind of a dud. Bit douchey. Favorite song sonically, Great Expectations. Least favorite lyrically, Great Expectations and all the rest.

Body shakin' bangers. Completely infectious.

Crushing and hypnotic in the best ways. Makes my body want to thrash and spasm along.

Liked the first song, wanted to like the rest. Just too tongue in cheek and goofy. I tried.

So hard to give this anything lower than 4 despite it being on the bottom half of Zeppelin albums for me. That's how much they rule.

Fun stuff - some reggae, some ska, some heavy riffs.

Funky stuff. A third of the album is Papa Was A Rollin Stone which is a huge positive. Other songs were enjoyable as well; some fun and some heavier.

Amazing production, lyrics, and messaging. Absolutely love this one. Funky and jazzy and conscious.

Not sure what the fuck that was but it was cool. Krauty and spacey. Must revisit this one later on.

It was fine. Song titles are dumb as hell. Not moved by anything here, but it certainly rocks along.

Peak gothic rock. The Cure is the best. This feels like their darkest album to me. Super dreary and oddly beautiful.

Solid stuff. Not as brit-poppy as their early stuff? Should probably be a 4.

Not my cup of tea. Went in all sorts of directions and I would've liked to turn around a time or two. The music is alright.

Adore this album and this band. Hard not to give it a 5 but it may be outside of my top 5 Talking Heads albums so 4 it is.

So damn good. Can't imagine the work that went into finding the samples and putting it all together. Trippy at time and hip hoppy at times. Awesome sounds, super intricate.

Songwriting masterclass. Love John Prine. Really really good stuff.

Surprisingly solid. Nothing too crazy or dynamic here but great sound and writing.

It's fine, nothing to write home about. Easy listening. King of the World is solid.

Really cool record. Made me want to watch it, as I imagine I would appreciate it even more. Bowie cover is cool, Meat Puppets covers are cool. Favorite part of the album is just the moments of Kurt talking I think.

Respectfully, a tough listen. Just very bleak. The imagery is powerful, it's just not pleasant imagery and not sugar coated. Good songwriting. Not my favorite Lou.

Bubble gummy and fun. Not my style. Liked the dirty guitar on Girl From Mars for 5 seconds.

Solid stuff, never really gave Metallica much of a chance. Almost proggy. Drums, vocals, and guitar all definitely rip.

Not really my style. Will have to revisit a few times. Respect the artistry and expression of self. Unique sounds but cringey lyrics.

Nice and easy. Great mood, melodies, and interesting songwriting.

So do good. Soulful beats and rhymes, basically everything I like out of a hip hop record. I don't even hate the skits which I usually do. Probably a 4.5 because I feel it falls of towards the end but not an option so I'm rounding up.

Nothing I didn't like about it -- maybe a little too samey. Nothing really grabbed me. Good folky county music.

Good music, great sounds and great moments. Sardines and pulk drag it down. Not my favorite Radiohead either but I can always listen through it. 3.5 but rounded down.

Solid, never listened to Traffic before. Nice vibes, jazzy and proggy. Interesting stuff. Will check the band out further.

Really nice music. Some sad, slow stuff and some upbeat relief. Paul Simon is a crazy good songwriter.

Great, great tunes. Not too much to say, just some lifelong jams and fantastic americana music.

Super solid. Not my favorite from Pixies, but a few really incredible songs and a lot of pretty good ones. A bit half-baked I guess. 4 but rounding up from 3.5 because even meh Pixies is bangin.

Awesome stuff, well constructed. Overplayed, but that isn't a fault of the band or the music. Spellbinding music, real breezy but heartfelt.

The older Morrisey got the less I liked him. Really not bad stuff, but the thought-provoking lyrics are often tainted by nearby cringe-inducing ones. Still good music with a lot to say.

Early british punk, poppy and rocky and enjoyable. The warbling vocals on the intro remind me of Cameron Winters/Geese.

Short but strong, great songwriting and storytelling as always. Heavy subject matter veiled in beautiful music.

Syd era, whimsical psychedelic tunes. Pretty interesting stuff, but I can't dig into it too much. Really cool sounds for the time, if nothing else. Not a bad record.

Woah first album here that I wasn't familiar with that rocked me. Robotic and heartfelt and so captivating. Really enjoyed this one.

Have a hard time with full reggae albums. Not my style but this is far from bad music.

Hadn't listened the them outside of Drive. Great song, so was hoping there'd be lesser listened tracks that stood out. Wasn't exactly the case. Perfectly listenable but not something I'm returning to.
