I've only ever passively experienced Adele in the places where Adele is played - the lunchtime radio, supermarket speakers, wedding receptions, bbc award ceremonies, your aunts cd collection, etc. Album starts off strong with Rolling in the Deep, I've heard the song a billion times before obviously but it was actually still somehow really engaging to listen to it for real. Theres some hideous 2010s overproduction going on but her voice manages to push it into the background. Unfortunately, as the album goes on, the more the lifeless instrumentation pushes to the forefront and it kind of just becomes one continuous sad piano song that just gets more grating with every burst of clapping or gospel backing vocals or orchestral swell that happens every few minutes. She's a great vocalist and an okay lyricist so I'll probably have better respect for one of these songs when I next hear them in the background of a tv soap or when I'm walking down the cereal aisle, but I also don't think they belong anywhere else.
