Some of this was offensive to me ears
Aim and Ignite by fun.. I never heard of the album or the band. The band name is easy to explain as the album is full of energetic indie rock with a lot of optimism and yes... fun. The songs are ok, but do not really stick with me. I'll always remain a grumpy man that prefers anger, sadness, fear or pessimism in his music. Still a great album for people that like this kind of bursts of energy and positivity.
Very pop-like indie rock. I only know 1 song of them (their big hit), and it was cool to learn to know this group a bit better
I've been meaning to check out fun. since I'm a fan of Bleachers and Jack Antonoff in general. When I got to meet him at a signing, I asked him about playing Brian May's guitar while he was in fun. (amongst other things). I didn't know what to expect and I enjoyed this immensely, however I don't think it's all that essential. My personal rating: 5/5 My rating relative to the list: 5/5 Should this have been included on the original list? No
I have always loved this album top to bottom. fun. made fun music
Aim and Ignite is an album for which attentiveness is rewarded. Finding the album title in lyrics feels like a fun scavenger hunt. The instrument choice is great. The xylophone-like instrument in "At Least I'm Not As Sad (As I Used To Be)" makes for such a light song. Anyway, Aim and Ignite has very catchy music. The lyrics are strong; they're different and engaging, proving that they are seasoned musicians from other bands. "Be Calm" is an excellent opener, and I can't believe it wasn't a single. A lot of indie comes off as pretentious, but the vibe of Aim and Ignite is bouncy. And, perhaps most of all, the album flows incredibly well. My twin sister might be the biggest fan of fun. and the Format, so I was tickled to listen. All songs were familiar to me, but there is always something about listening to an album in the order the artist intended. A quick glance at my page would show I'm not a big fan of indie, but fun. is different and, well, fun. :) 4.5
Didn’t know Jack Antonoff was in this band and that this is the band that made Some Nights! This was an educational pick. Also, quite liked the music! Colorful indie
Ett riktigt glatt album och givetvis smittar det av sig. Man blir glad av att lyssna på det här. Ganska bra låtar över lag dessutom.
I really enjoyed this album. Jaunty sings hide thought provoking lyrics.
amazed at how much i liked this
Bright, poppy, fun. My kind of thing. Four stars from an old me, would have been five stars from a young me. Thank you for the share a nice little break.
fun. Would have gone to 4,5.
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: All the pretty girls, At least I’m not as sad, Take your time, Stirch me up
Really on the fence on this one (the good versus great fence I should say). An eclectic mix, shades of new-old timey acts like the Lumineers, classic pop-rock offerings like Beach Boys, Springsteen's more melodic fare, a lot of other perceived influences. Solidly written lyrics, and clever - though maybe to a fault. Overall good jams though.
Was fun, as it said on the tin. Liked it!
Not the obvious fun. pick but I am a fan so I’ll give them their flowers
I didn't realize that fun. never put out more than two albums. After the major success of a couple of songs on their sophomore album, I am surprised they didn't ride that success further. But I guess Jack Antonoff ultimately found more success with Bleachers, and ultimately producing for Taylor Swift. Speaking of that sophomore album, though, I am kind of surprised that it wasn't the album featured, but I digress. This album was okay. I definitely hear the major Queen and Electric Light Orchestra inspirations that are spoke of -- two lofty inspirations to live up to. While they get the sounds right, the album just really doesn't manage to sustain anything catchy and grand enough to really capture the essence of those classic giants. I would probably not call this album a true 3, but it felt like a better fit than a 2.
Pop, baroque pop, indie pop. Ni fu ni fa.
Nollari-indietä. Odotin, että olis kamalampaa mutta ihan siedettävää.
Not bad 3
Aim and Ignite is a nice bouncy little effort, quirky and interesting, maybe a bit shallow overall but a decent 3.
Remember listening to this one in high school, more so how it seemed fun. ruled the music world for a solid year around 2012 before evaporating into the void. This LP precedes the band's mainstream breakout 'Some Nights' and feels much more artistically refined and twee than its successor, heavily tongue-in-cheek and indie compared to the pop-crossover focus that would come later. Dig the heavy melodic focus and vocal stylings, even though I feel this LP won't age particularly well beyond the 2020s. Feels very much a product of the particular 2010s indie sound a la Passion Pit, fun in the moment but will forever be tied to a certain moment in time rather than existing as a timeless album. Still, this is a solid listen and a fun nostalgia trip. Not sure it's 1001-worthy, but I had a good time.
Fun is right
Un grupo con canciones buenas en su mayoría, con un estilo un tanto definido. Buena voz y acompañamientos. Sin llegar a encandilarme, es un pop que gusta.
Interesting, if not entirely successful.
Best Song: Be Calm. I wish the album contained more songs like this, where the singer really shows of their vocal chops, especially in the upper register. Worst Song: Walking The Dog. The "quirkiness" factor of this song is turned up too high. Overall: A very earnest pop album with vibes of musical theatre. I vaguely remembered this band from a few mega hits that they had (evidently from the album that followed this one), but had heard none of these tracks before. It's alright... very particular in its presentation. Listening to the lead singer, I can't help but imagine he's standing on a stage, impeccable posture, chin held high, singing to the upper rafters. Pop music for concert halls.
Good fun. Indie pop album.
Good upbeat pop music. Sometimes a bit too musical theater-ish. 3 stars.
First became aware of them with their second album from 2012, which was somehow shoutier, with even Bigger production. This one's very recognizably 2010s indie pop, despite technically predating the decade. So what we have here is something that shows its age a little bit, but it's an age that a lot of my College Music was born out of. Anyway, fun.'s never been my favorite act from that era. They aim for catchy music, but all of their big earworms just get on my nerves. A little bit too relentlessly major-key, cloying, and candy-coated, and doesn't reach the level of "party music for people on uppers" that other candy-coated major-key acts like MGMT were able to hit
This guy loves Freddie Mercury and pop. This guy annoys me trying to pull off both.
Got annoying after a bit
fun. just isn't my thing. I find them slightly annoying. 2/5
A huge no from me.
I don't get it. It's up beat. But I don't get it
