These guys should have either added more to each song that wasn’t repetitive or trimmed the fat. Too much of the same thing in each song. Repeated choruses way too many times. Put another verse in or trim the length

Off the wall is still better, but this was a monster in 82
Nope.
Was a 3 until that pink floyd cover.
Gah enough of him!! Too much on here. 78 whiny minutes.
1-Star Albums (4)
All Ratings
Couldnt do it. Her voice killed it for me.
Its Bowie. Its going to be good
Great album. Good stuff in the middle that wasnt released as singles
Whiny sad bastard music.
Meh. Not for me.
Weird and long but some lyrics were quite funny.
The debut of the synthesizer for VH. Last David album. Good stuff mostly
Folky
Horns and horns and horns
Fantastic start to finish
Dont know how that was associated with punk. That wasnt punk
If jam bands played funk, this would be it. Very long and repetitive on some songs but overall good
Disappointing. After all the hubbub I heard about Pulp, this was ass. Not impressed at all. Boring at best.
Overall decent. Follow up album was better IMO but this one was different for the time.
Meh. Too pop. Not for me at all
Not for me
Would be a 5 if not for the radio ruining so many of these songs. Well put together double album
Such a great album. Almost perfect
Folky
Too long mostly. Other than the 3 radio songs, this is not that great.
Arguably the best rock debut album ever. Definitely of the 80s. Amazing start to finish. Isn’t a bad song on here
After listening to this, I can’t find a song I’d like to hear again. It wasn’t bad, just forgettable. Maybe I’ll try again
Good stuff. Nice beats throughout
Appreciate the longevity and the style, but just cant get into it like the fans can. Thom is impressive but it goes stale after 4 or 5 songs
Not a big fan of this style of music, but Tori is such an amazing songwriter and musician. Solid debut album
So good. Amazing band.
Outstanding.
Mediocre and forgettable
Better than I was expecting. Got a little repetitive towards the end, but all around a decent listen
Nice background music.
So good. Start to finish there isnt a bad song on here.
Decent live album
Such a storyteller. Not even his best album and its chock full of hits.
Really sub par album.
Phenomenal debut album.
So good. A 1 2 punch at the beginning and just keeps pounding on you until the rib breaking body blow of “Wake Up”
These guys should have either added more to each song that wasn’t repetitive or trimmed the fat. Too much of the same thing in each song. Repeated choruses way too many times. Put another verse in or trim the length
Would give 3.5 if possible. Not quite a 4 but better than a 3. Dwight was a bright point of the 90s shit country that came out
Disappointed. Was expecting more from this. Her voice is amazing, but the songs were just blah. Loved the Fugees, and agin her voice is so good I just wasn’t impressed with this. Solid 2.5 to 3 here
Generic and forgettable. Sounds like an amalgam of the shit bands that came out around the same time. Reminded me of the made up band that Adrianna was trying to get signed in “The Sopranos” Not impressed at all
Cool voice. Good jazz stuff here. Tragic story about her, though.
Couldnt do it. Only 2nd album I couldn’t finish. Too repetitive, too long. 7 minutes of Around the World? Come on. Maybe if I was in my late teens/early twenties. Roger Murtaugh here, I’m too old for this shit.
Between 3 and 4 on this. Decent stuff, last song was the best
Other than the Prince song this was ok at best
Experimental, I get it. But theres a 17 minute “song” that sounds like yawning for most of it. 2.5 rating only for the experimental sound
Solid 2.5 rating
Started out good then fizzled. 2.5
Nope.
Solid 3.5 from Waylon
Maybe if they mentioned Skynyrd another couple hundred more times. Sounded like a crap country band that tried a rock album and failed miserably. Plus 90 minutes of this? No thank you
Dont know of any other album that all songs still get regular airplay. All 8 songs done by 2 guys then they added the band. Sick debut album
Better than I was expecting. All around pretty decent
Cant stand this guy. Overrated and boring
Recognize the talent, but never could get into his solo music. Cream was better. Hard to separate the man from the music now that hes such a douche
Solid 3.5 here
Another album for sex. Not bad.
28 songs, 33 minutes long. Couldnt understand a single word and it was labeled explicit. 2.5-3 rating. Nowhere near the best thing I’ve heard but far from the worst
Decent album
Good stuff. Solid 3.5
Good stuff here. Could be 3.5
Horny angry woman rocks
Better than the debut IMO. Solid album
Smooth as silk
Have no idea what i just listened to. But i didnt like it much
Theres filler on here that kept it from a 5, but this was the soundtrack for ‘92
Solid 3.5 from me, but this thing was a monster in its day. You couldn’t turn of FM rock radio or MTV and not hear something from this album.
Enjoyed this more than i was expecting.
Her music is beautiful, wonderfully mixed. I should listen to her more often. This one was very very good
Kind of meh. Not something I’d revisit
Music was really good. Dug the banjos, other instruments, all flowed well together. Lyrics were generic and actually quite bad. Shame, could have been a great album. Maybe an instrumental instead of those grade school level lyrics. Could have been 3.5 now 2.5
Good stuff with Bowie cowriting most
Solid 3.5 here
Pretty good stuff here
Folky. 2.5 maybe. Not my sound
3 stars only for White Girl.
Nice voice but it got old pretty quick. Last song was the best of the bunch
This was pretty boring actually. I hear the messages, they don’t need to be repeated that many times. 2.5 rating maybe
Meh. Dance music not for me anymore
Ok i guess. A little whiny. Reminded me of Morrissey if he was in the 60s
Ok she had a good voice. But she wasnt Aretha, Dusty, Etta or any of the other greats and I don’t know why she gets dumped into that group. Album was good not great
Much better than i was expecting. Solid
Have to give it a 4 just for nostalgia
Forgot how good this was.
The hits are great, the rest is..ok. 3.5
The instrumentals were ok. Then he started rapping? Singing? I dont even know. Track 9 was just plain awful. Stick to instrumentals. 2.5 at best.
I dont know what i just listened to.
No. Just no
Much better than i was expecting. Flowed perfectly from start to finish
Way too long, repetitive and quite boring in parts. Maybe a 2.5
Solid 3.5 here. Wasn’t expecting to enjoy this. Good stuff
Not my style
Started out good then fizzled. 2.5
Good stuff
Decent but forgettable
Great stuff here
2.5 maybe. Not my taste.
Interestingly different
3 for nostalgia alone
Boring and generic. Sounded like everyone else that came out around the same time. Maybe 2.5
Nope. The “preacher speak” killed it. Everything-uh was spoken-uh like this-uh! The entire-uh album-uh was done this-uh way. Musicians were good, some of the tracks were ok minus the vocals-uh. Maybe a 2.5 at best. And thats very generous.
This just kept getting better every song. I had no idea what to expect with this, but what a chill, soulful album. Long but passed quick. Solid 4
Good but not his best
Too long, but pretty interesting
Talent, theres no denying it, but long, repetitive and very simple lyrics. Each song could have been trimmed about 30 to 45 seconds of repeat chorus.
3.5 maybe? Title song and Vincent give it that rating the rest was ok.
Really good
The best part of this is the guest stars. Ye is not half as good as he thinks he is, and there are way better out there. Stick to producing.
Garage rock at its finest
Not bad.
Could have been a 4 if they would have trim some of the fat. Did not need to be that long.
Decent listen. Solid 3.5 here
Pretty impressive voice on this young lady. Decent album
Meh. It was ok but pretty generic. Sounded very similar to other artists of the time. Maybe a 2.5?
No they werent the best, but they were a huge part of my youth. Sister loved them and they will always hold a place. Solid for just for the memories.
Nope.
Shaping what was to come. Solid 4 only for Harris writing. Once Bruce, Nikko, Adrian came in it was the perfect group
Interesting. Good Sunday morning record, which was exactly when I got it.
Interesting. Sounds like where Rammstein got their sound
Boring
Too long but pretty good. Better than anything Kanyet did for sure
A little better than the other 2, still dont get it. Also dont know why they are on here 3 times
Decent listen
Almost a wu tang album, good enough for me. They need to trim the fillers tho. 3.5
Again, this guy didn’t make a bad album. The last few tracks pulled this back to a 5
All day a 5. One of the best hip hop albums ever
Great album. Final song is definitely the best on the album. Almost a 5
Maybe 2.5. I expected better
Ok i guess. Sounded like smashing pumpkins mixed with our lady peace. Nothing special but not terrible. 2.5 i think
It was like listening to the same song for 49 minutes. Crooners are fine but this cat was and will always be overrated.
3.5 maybe? Shes got a cool voice, good songwriter as well. Kind of dig her stuff
3.5? First hardcore punk album deserves some love
Thank you Mr Tarantino
Awful. Same thing on every song. Even some i skipped halfway through, it was still the same beat. Too much electronica and techno in this list
Decent
Doesnt really hold up over time.
The music was ok but why put a bunch of half ass spoken word nonsense in there? I dont know what the hell i just listened to but it wasn’t worth 56 minutes of my time.
I probably wouldn’t seek this guy out to listen, but the albums of his on this list are really, really good.
Very very good album
Like the others around this time, it’s too long. Trim the fat and it would be a solid 4. Good stuff, 3-3.5 all day, but come some of the extra at the end of each song.
We lost him way too soon. Such an artist
Ugh. More techno. Endless techno. It just goes on and on.
What a voice.
2. Oasis knock off? Not sure why this was on the list
Another that isnt my bag, but she killed this one. Still solid after all this time. Solid 3.5
So, so good. Shame we only got 2 albums out of these guys. Both are great, but this one set the bar
Never got the fascination for these guys. Maybe it was the overplay of Fire Woman on FM radio. Killed them for me. Singers voice is quite annoying. Reminds me of Morrissey singing rock. Not quite as whiny. Equally annoying. Maybe a 2.5 here
Booooooring… i dont understand why musicians think it is necessary to repeat the chorus for 7 times at the end of a song. End it! Songs were too long and went nowhere. Could have trimmed quite a bit of fat and been better
Pretty good
First time finding myself having a hard time separating the art from the artist. Not a bad album but what a mess of a human.
Maybe 3.5
Having never heard these guys, I’m glad I started this 1001 journey. Another solid from this band. They are quite good
3.5 maybe? Far from their best but still solid
Not as good as I was hoping. Could have trimmed some time off
I get that this was pretty much the first post punk album, but it really wasnt that good. Their later stuff was much better. 2.5 maybe. Expected more from them
Does it matter that he couldn’t sing all that well? No. The music, the lyrics all defined who he is. One of the greatest story tellers every.
Why 3 times on here? They were not that good. This was slightly better than the other 2 but still not worth being on here 3 times. Maybe a 3 and thats giving extra props because someone, somewhere thought they deserved 3 entries on this list
Other than the hit, nothing spectacular here. And the Iron Man cover? Please never again
Noise rock. Blah blah. At least make it entertaining
Nothing great here. The instrumentals were good, decent beats. Then the singing, talking whatever started.
IMO, its the 3rd best behind Sticky Fingers and Let it Bleed. However, it is of course a 5 and I can see why it is thought of as their best. Outstanding album
This is why i started this journey, to find albums like this. Really great stuff here.
Not bad, i guess
Sounded dubbed. Probably not from one show. Mid
Boring. Again, the most overrated of the crooners ever. If he wasn’t mob connected, career would have gone nowhere
Tried and tried to get into these guys. I respect the talent of Jerry, but I can’t do it. At least this album didn’t have the 20 minute jam nonsense.
Too long but decent I guess. 2.5? Maybe a 3
Nowhere near as good as Pet Sounds.
4.5 not quite a 5
Generic. Nothing memorable on here at all. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t good.
Knew I recognized that voice! Once I remembered where, the album got higher rated.
Not bad. Makes you wonder what might have been had Razzle not gotten in the car with Vince
Started off good, then fizzled at the end. Still 3.5, based on the era. The title song still holds and the first 3/4 of this was really good.
Coat of many colours was a good cover, put Dolly is hard to beat. Overall good album
Her hits were hits, very good stuff. The rest? Not so much. Not as great as her others but this still holds up. Not s desert island album, but good anyway. 3.5
Even better now that its pissing so many people off. Seriously, have some people never heard of punk?
Awful. Way too much EDM on here anyway, but this was the absolute worst. Generic repetitive nonsense. I get why some EDM is here but not this. There is no way this was groundbreaking or unique. Complete ass.
Meh. Ok in parts. Maybe a 3.
I didn’t dislike this. It went by fairly quick and was entertaining. Its not something i would seek out to listen to, but it wasn’t bad at all
3.5 maybe? Good stuff, a little long but overall a good listen
Good stuff.
Long. Too many skits. Answering machines conversations etc… that was done in the 90s, move on. Hes good, I see why he is considered one of the best. Definitely better by miles than Kanye. Just shorten them up. Dont need the same lines repeated that much, and the 12 minute song? No. Best track was with Dre.
Another album, that without Bowie, we wouldn’t have.
This was pretty enjoyable. No idea about it beforehand but good stuff
2.5-3 only for the energy he had. Not my style but appreciate the voice
Monster album for mtv era.
Really good except the filler. The skits, the nonsense. Another album that could have trimmed the fat of excess chorus and skits and been phenomenal.
Way too long but quite a few diamonds in the rough here. Still almost a perfect album. And I read some of these weren’t good enough for the Beatles??
Better than the other one, though not by much. Again the best ones are with other people. The beats and music are pretty good but the filler and the length bring it down. Kanye is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. There are many better, Kendrick, Jay, Nas especially. Stick to producing.
Killer stuff here, Kiwanuka solidified this as a 4
Chill. Rainy Sunday afternoon stuff
She should have stayed in the 90s
His voice grates on my ears after awhile. Appreciate the history and what it did at the time, but damn its like a railroad spike on a chalkboard
Loved these guys, too bad pete couldnt leave the heroin alone and they couldnt get along. Could have been much more from them. Great album
Decent i guess. Toys is better imo
Good stuff. Solid 3.5 maybe 4. Tragic story
Good gems on here. 3.5 solid
Nothing great here except Pharrell appearances.
Songwriting genius.
4.5
89 was a monster year for hip hop. 3rd best only beaten by 3 feet high and rising and Pauls Boutique.
Not space rock. Noise rock maybe. Not many redeeming qualities in this
3.5 all day. Had fun with this one
There’s a line in “High Fidelity,” which this band is mentioned in btw, that says “I just want something I can ignore.” That about sums this up. Was it bad? No. Was it deserving of this list? Probably. Would I listen again? If there was nothing else and I needed to ignore something with music playing, then yes I would.
Very good album. Pay attention Kanye. This blows your doors off
Meh. Didn’t hold up
Jazzy
More electronic. At least this one was shorter and a little more tolerable.
One of my favorite bands of all time, if not my favorite. (At least right now, it changes) and this is a great album there is no doubt. I don’t often criticize the judgement of the author but adding this and not including Animals is an error.
Quite good
2.5 maybe? Doesnt hold up
Pretty damn food stuff. Wasn’t expecting to enjoy this
2.5 maybe
Ok but listening to the whole thing nonstop was tiresome. Maybe it was that much of her voice. 2.5 stars
Doesnt really hold up
Meh
Yeah it was good but their other earlier albums are better
Ass then, ass now. Politics and Bud Light aside this was never good. I don’t like giving a 1 rating but this is deserving of a 1. Garbage
Not bad
Way too long. I dig FM, but this felt repetitive. There were multiple songs on here that I felt I had just heard. Decent album but there are much better in their collection. Needed a good trimming to cut some of the time
The man didn’t write songs. They were stories. This album is one incredible story after another. Even the Rat would approve
The world wasn’t ready for this in 1966. Killer stuff
2.5 maybe? Nothing spectacular here. Forgettable.
Another that could be a 5 if not for the length. Just too long, but a solid album start to finish. Trim the fat. Cash definitely crushed the “Hurt” cover.
Maybe 3.5 not quite a 4. Good stuff tho
Sounded like the same song the whole album.
Meh ok i guess
No not a fan, but I see the talent. She writes her own. It wasn’t that bad, but hard to listen to all at once. Break it up and its listenable. Wasn’t expecting to hear her use language, and sing about sex. I don’t get all the hate on her, she has way more talent than half of the nonsense out now.
Better than “Can” still odd though. Guess that is what made it listenable. Maybe 3.5?
How can you deny what this album did in 86-87? Radio monster
This was pretty good. Surprised there are good albums in the 2010s on here.
Knopfler showing why hes top 20 axeman
Different but pretty solid. 3.5
Do we really need these guys 3 times on here? The music is ok, but his voice for a whole album? Damn I’d almost rather listen to Morrissey. Almost
Way too much dance, electronica, remix, etc on here.
3.5. I enjoyed this.
Never realized how much James got the crowds going. Those girls were going nuts for him. Good stuff
This album was all over the place. It couldn’t decide if it wanted to be good, bad or boring. It had shades of all 3, but mostly landed on the boring, bordering on bad.
Just gets better and better every song.
I love Iggy, but this one was way too much repetitive noise. Stooges have better stuff, and this was not it.
Mid and forgettable. Sounded generic and similar to the rest of the 90s alt rock whatever. Nothing to write home about. Was going to give a 3 for at least being on the list but the next to the last song killed it. Ballad-ish bullshit that doesn’t fit with the rest. Knocked you down to a 2, gents
Meh
Way too long. Just like the other one on here. Trim the fucking fat. Still way to much EDM, electronica, dance, whatever on here.
Again, 90s hip-hop too long. Trim the fat. Choruses go on too long, interludes contribute nothing. Could have been a 4, because these three ladies were great.
Gah enough of him!! Too much on here. 78 whiny minutes.
Kind of boring. No structure, just random noise. I’m a metal fan and this was not good. Take away Beautiful people and this is a 1 all day.
Quite good
Not his best
The hits are great the rest is good. They have better albums tho
I guess for the time it was good. Sounded similar to the rest of the 60s.
Typical 80s. Good voice but hard to sit through all at once. Fat should have been trimmed from some songs. Excess choruses and filler at the end needs to go
Good background music.
Typical 90s hip hop/rap. Filler goes on too long. Decent spread tho, “hustler” the best of the lot. Although hearing Sabbath and Zep mixed on “Midnight” was quite good
Early Lemmy. Great stuff
Started out good then fizzled. Then the covers began. Yeesh. No
Better than the other one on here but still nothing amazing. At least it was shorter
Better than the other one they have on here, but still meh at best
Nice voice
Maybe 3.5. Breakfast is the better album
Ok. Not as good as his others
What? No. No. no no no. This was awful
Not her best, but she reinvents herself each album. The autotune song had to go, though.
Off the wall is still better, but this was a monster in 82
Could listen to this guy all day
Any member of the Clan gets an auto bump just because. Another solid effort from one of the Wu Tang. 3.5 maybe a 4
Didnt like this. Not sure why but it just didnt click for me. Nothing jumped out and it was quite boring
Definitely hear the bands they influenced. Mostly covers on here, decent stuff good sound
Why the hell is there so much electronica on here? Another snoozefest of the same shit repeating in 4-5 minute intervals.
That was…….interesting?
Good voice but way too long
Solid
Ok, but hard to listen to all at once. Her voice can grind a little. Still good for it’s place in the 80s though.
My new favorite discovery from this list
Decent but long. Drawn out. 2.5 maybe a 4
Solid debut.
Hello children! Here’s one of my albums before I became your chef.
She had such a great voice
Really, really good. Could be a five. Almost
2.5? Nothing spectacular about this
Real quick, I was just telling the guys in the back about this piece of vinyl. It still holds up. A definite noine out of ten. Definitely on my top ten desert island albums, boff.
3.5
Very stereotypical country album. Drinking loss heartache cheating etc etc. ok shes a decent songwriter, voice isnt terrible but there isnt much here to stand out from every other country album of the time.
I enjoyed this. Wasn’t expecting it and found it entertaining
Love these guys
I dont think this aged well. Theres some really not good stuff here. There are some gems but not enough to land a 3. Close, but still in the 2s
Meh. Long winded.
Never heard of this guy, glad I heard it. Solid album
7 songs over 78 minutes long. Do the math. Ive tried and tried to get into these guys and I just cant. I see the talent but I just cant. At least its not EDM. Give it a 3 for staying power
Never could really get into them, but decent album anyway
Wow that was depressing
If this album doesn’t get you moving, nothing will
Ok I guess
Ok i guess. Little long
2.5? Not sure if I enjoyed this. It was too long for one, and it didn’t really leave an impression
Whatever mixer decided to put “Albatross” as the lead track took a giant gamble. Too long, repetitive, droll and quite annoying. Could have skipped the entire album after that. After listening, I should have. Instrumentals were not good, lyrics were mid. Coming from this group I expected better. The debut was better, but this definitely got the sophomore slump. Barely a 2, and that’s generous
More sad bastard whining from the king of it
Not what i was expecting with the love ballads. Overall doesn't really hold up. 2.5 probably
Why are they on here so much? I really don’t get it. I’ve tried on every album that has popped up and I can’t get past a 2 rating. I don't get the hype.
Hard not to give this a 5. Not even the biggest Who fan but this was so good. Easily a 4.5. Lyrics are pretty disturbing listening to the entire thing
Perfect. Can’t imagine listening to this for the first time in 1970. Started an entire genre of music
3.5 here maybe? Pretty solid debut
Ok fred, you like to say f$ck. We get it. Late 90s attempt at rap metal falls flat 24 years later. Can’t believe I actually own this CD. Does not hold up and it’s a shame because Wes is actually a really good axeman.
Interesting
Preacher-uh Speak-uh again. Each song sounded like the record was skipping and it was playing the same thing over and over.
Not impressed
Pretty good. If Guy Ritchie were to narrate one of his movies.
Can't take these guys in big chunks. Decent listen but too long. Did appreciate the cheech and chong at the end
Quite possibly the best album ever produced.
Best thing about this is that VT uses Sandman before every home game. Wherever I may Roam is great, but there are too many ballads and slow songs here. Not my Metallica of old. I get it, bands evolve but they evolved off my turntable.
Loved her voice. 3.5
Too much electronic on here
Needs a half rating. Not a 2 but not quite a 3. Trim the fat on this and it might have been a 3. Stop letting the tape run and end the damn song!
Not bad
Can’t argue with those voices.
2.5 tops. Not as good as I was hoping. Generic and forgettable other than the one hit
More house and dance. Meh.
Got better as it progressed. 2.5?
2.5 if im honest. Too folky for too long
He is heard to deal with for 2 hours. Had to break it up. Its a 4 all day, just for the hits and there are some hidden gems but again, trim the fat. Didn’t need to be this long. Could only be released when it was. Wouldn’t have made it in any other time in history
Early MTV flashback
3.5
Enough edm dance nonsense.
Enough electronica!!!
Close to a 5 here. One of the best hidden gems on this list
Meh at best. Not sure why this was on here
The guy isn’t half as good as he thinks he is. There are many that are much better. Beats are decent, that’s about it. 2.5
Was a 3 until that pink floyd cover.
Too long cut some fat off. Too many repeated choruses
Fantastic
Dont know how to rate this. There were shades of great and garbage here.
Fantastic punk sound, loved the sax. Her voice killed it
Baker and Bruce made this band. Clapton was just along for the ride
Good writing, boring execution
Autotuned? Too much filler. Not 90s hip hop, don’t need that much filler
Voice got annoying
2.5 maybe. Good boyce and hart cover
Way too long. Each song was on average 90 seconds too much. Get rid of the interludes.
Way too long.
Excellent find in a pool of late 90s trash. Gems like this are why I started this trip
Meh. Boring. FM radio killed it
Nice album. 80s feel with a Steely Dan twist
Zappa knew what he was doing.
Meh.
The ones with Malkmus are better and should have been here over this one
The other one on here is much better. Still good tho
Wasnt that great then, didn’t hold up to now.
Torn between 3-4 here. Better than the others they have
Good songwriting but too country. Probably should be a 3 but its a 2
More edm. What shock
Would go 3.5 here. Not quite a 4. They never reached the high of Murmur again
Just cant get into these guys. Nothing sets them apart
Probably their best
Not the best from them
Nice voice
Doesn’t really hold up. Tough to listen to in one sitting. 2.5
Damn good.
Cant decide if i like these guys
Take away the title track and this is a very generic psychedelic album. Title track makes it a 3. Barely
Started ok, got boring quick
Better than the other but not by much. 2.5
There are some gems in here, but not enough. 3/5
Generic
Meh
These albums are what I did this for.
Sorry, but no one needs a 20 minute version of Space Truckin
Next one is better, but this is still great
Very long, but very good
Cant get into these guys. Dont know why.
Still kicks. Some of Chads best drumming ever
Forgettable
Forgettable
Overrated.
Excellent debut
Kind of boring after Cisco
Enough with the damn edm!
Campy, cheesy and I wouldnt want it any other way
Very bland
3.5
Mediocre. Very brave starting an album with your only hit.
Not as strong as the debut
