Robert Caskin Prince III (March 12, 1945 – June 16, 2026) was an American video game composer and sound designer. He worked as an independent contractor for several video game companies, including 3D Realms, Apogee Entertainment, and id Software. His most notable works included sound for Wolfenstein 3D (1992), Doom, Duke Nukem II (both 1993), Doom II (1994), and Duke Nukem 3D (1996). Prince received the Game Audio Network Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, and his Doom work was inducted into the U.S. National Recording Registry in 2026.

I’m sure this would’ve been better if I was actually playing the game
I’ve had thoughts on user-added OSTs, but can acknowledge the balls it takes to add the original DOOM soundtrack in its original MS-DOS soundfont glory. Not at all suited for listening as a musical product, but a fascinating historical piece in the context of video game sound design. Interesting to hear the push and pull between elements of what would have been a traditional orchestra-driven soundtrack and the technology of the time’s ability to render a meaningful blob of sound. Guess even the 1001 project can run DOOM.
I remember playing DOOM 2, but don't know any of these songs. I did think it was a pretty good listen. I was not expecting much after seeing another video game soundtrack show up. This one I think was better than the others. I'd actually listen to this again. 3.5 / 5
As an album listening experience, I hated this. I can appreciate how impressive the music was to create on a MIDI system and how groundbreaking it must have been for video game music in the early ’90s, but that doesn’t necessarily make it enjoyable to listen to as an album in 2026. It works brilliantly as a soundtrack to DOOM, but taken out of the game I just didn’t enjoy it. Definitely an important piece of video game music history, but not one I’d ever choose to listen to again.
