Seventeen Seconds
The CureI've never enjoyed a Cure album, even though I'd like to because Robert Smith is an excellent grumpy goth who hates Morrissey.

I expected to quite like it, but it exceeded my expectations. I thought i already had an opinion on Stay With Me, but that was better than I expected too. Maybe it all caught me in just the right mood.
It's just like a more expensive (and, to be fair, not quite as bad) version of doing an acoustic album. They can have two stars because many of the songs are good, but these are disappointing versions.
I like the big Simply Red hits more than i perhaps ought to. I'm just about old enough to have nostalgia for them. This is still kinda boring though.
This isn't for me. I didn't find it obnoxious or anything, like all the lame people influenced by Joni Mitchell, but it left no impression.
It's not going into my rotation or anything, but I quite liked this. Reminded me of Eels in places.
Yeah, ok Sabbath you can have loads of stars.

It's hard to process this as anything other than a historical artifact tbh. It's not bad, but i got nothing from it, apart from wanting to listen to the Alec Empire vs Elvis album again.
Fun, but all the songs are too long
mopey bs. I do have a soft spot for Everyday Is Like Sunday, and there was a surprise guitar solo that i enjoyed.
I listened to this years ago and found it disappointing and boring. Now I like it.
Can't help but be reminded of my times at ATP. Happy memories, wrapping in mostly-boring indie music.

Can't remember whether i've actually seen Wilco during the daytime at a festival while half-sleeping on the grass, or whether they just sound like an ideal band for doing that.
One of these stars is due to nostalgia. I like the Charlatans but they don't exactly excite me.
Sounded decent, but i barely even noticed when it finished.
First disc is decent, but the second is pure shite wasting my time.
Not exactly a criticism, but i just have no need to listen to this ever again.
It's a good sound, but it gets boring pretty quick
Got close to that fourth star, but then they went and called a song "Keep On Chooglin'"
It veers into the experimental Berlin Bowie (which i'm not so fond of) towards the end, but I liked it for the most part.
I liked it plenty, although a little suspicious of how often he felt the need to deny being anti-semitic.
One or two standouts
There are decent classic rock sounds here, but also a lot of tiresome muso self-indulgence.
This is why i don't bother going to see the bands when i'm at ATP
Bit of nostalgia talking here, because I was super hyped for this album at the time. In retrospect some of - including the lead single - is kinda dull, but the good bits are still good enough.
This is a generous 3, based on some of the songs being really good - and I didn't make it to the end. But there's no excuse for making the listener do the job of editing your record down to size. Save the crappy ~55 tracks for b-sides and special editions.
Only a rung or two above Coldplay, this lot.
nice production. Found nothing in it beyond that.

I have respect for the surprising versatility of the Bee Gees, but i didn't much enjoy listening to it.
90s + mild familiarity make me rate kindly, but it's still kinda boring indie.
was braced for hippy shite, but actually it was decent like The Beatles.
ok i guess, but dull enough that i found the jazzy fucking around at the end a highlight. And i do not, as a rule, like jazzy fucking around.
It's fine. More interesting than i expected, but still an indie record.
tbh it made no real impression on me, and i already can't entirely remember what it sounded like. But I do remember being pleasantly surprised.
Enjoyed side 1; didn't enjoy the noodling on side 2.
Not actually objectionable.
