The CharlatansWhat is the point of this. I can tell this book was edited by an English music reviewer. There's a reason I've never heard of this band. Generic garbage

I love this album, Care of Cell 44 probably ranks among my favorite songs. Great from front to back!
Beautiful music from a reprehensible human being. I went out of my way not to pay for this, and probably can't make it a repeat listen.
I'm not sure I've ever listened to this album all the way through but I knew almost every song. That speaks to how strong the album is, 8 out of the 11 songs are single worthy.
This absolutely blew me away. What took me so long?!
Strong from start to finish. It has been long enough since hearing it that I now love End of the World again. I would definitely like to listen to this more.

Fun fun music
Had these songs stuck in my head all day after listening. This is one I have underrated in the past in favor of other TH albums, but it's definitely up there with the best.
Yes this album rules. Listened to a bunch of the extended edition as well and even a lot of the outtakes are killer songs. It has been way too long since hearing this all the way through.
Found myself questioning how much to embrace this after hearing the issues going on in the artist's personal life at the time of recording. But the music is winning me over, it's hard to deny. I found the middle part to drag a bit, I think it was a little too 80s soul for my liking. But the beginning and end are great.
I love this album, Care of Cell 44 probably ranks among my favorite songs. Great from front to back!
There are some weird interludes that I don't much care for. Some of these songs are impossible to deny bangers even as someone who doesn't listen to metal music.
I do not hate Tom Waits, but I do think he is overrated. There is some great stuff in here, overshadowed by how overly long the album is, and by the affected singing style Waits employs.
Back-to-back jams. The only bad moment on the whole album is the drum solo in Moby Dick, otherwise flawless.
Strong start, gets a bit snoozy in the second half.
Extremely dated sounding, sorry. Don't mean to be such a millenial but way too 80s for my taste. Some good songwriting underneath the production.
Beautiful music from a reprehensible human being. I went out of my way not to pay for this, and probably can't make it a repeat listen.
No interest in this, I was too young when it came out and have no nostalgia for this sound. Don't think it aged particularly well either.
Great songs
Fun little piece of history but not something I'd go back and listen to
This is incredible stuff, should listen to this again.
Probably groundbreaking when it came out but can't say I'm crazy for 60s music most of the time, and this didn't grab me.
Didn't get all the way through. Too 90s for my taste.
Super enjoyable and deserving of multiple listens
This absolutely blew me away. What took me so long?!
Brilliant. Probably not one I'll play all the way through consistently but the first half will definitely go into rotation.
Dated production kept me from enjoying this more.
Why does Todd Rundgren have to make his albums so long? I do enjoy every single song on this album but I do not have the patience to sit through 25 songs.
Great songwriting. For some reason I don't see myself returning back to this one. Not dynamic enough for me I guess.
One of the perfect albums.
This is a lot of fun, an enjoyable listen. Maybe ignorant to say but I'm not sure how much substance there is to it, sounds like party music.
Idk kind of boring to me. I know Spiritualized is well respected. I've tried with this album a couple times and nothing brings me back to it.
I'm not sure I've ever listened to this album all the way through but I knew almost every song. That speaks to how strong the album is, 8 out of the 11 songs are single worthy.
Crazy how many classic songs are on here. I don't really care for the deeper cuts though.
Sure it was revolutionary blah blah blah so boring in 2021
This was really cool to find. I've never heard of this guy. Seems super ahead of its time and influential.
I don't have much patience for early punk
Surprisingly good, extremely British. Some jams in here! Too many sketches for my liking.
Wonderful album full of songs I've never heard. Definitely one to return back to.
I loved a couple songs on the album. I Want to Wake Up was a real stand-out. Overall the synths and 80s production got in the way for me, but not as much as I was expecting.
A classic for a reason. Super catchy and great production work. This doesn't have the flatness/bluntness that a lot of punk albums of this era do.
I was very skeptical of this. I think very few albums from the last 5 years will have enough context to meet the criteria of the list. I have to say I loved this album. Great psych folky stuff going on here
There She Goes is pop perfection. Everything else on here was middle of the road. Definitely listenable, but I'm only returning back to that single.
Noped out after 3 tracks. I don't need to listen to music for 90s incels
Early Elvis Costello is OK in my book. I think his voice became a parody of itself on later albums. May require more exploration. I enjoyed this quite a bit.
I love how economical all the songs are. I was surprised at how many of these I recognize.
The songs you've heard before are incredible. The deep cuts on this are pretty boring for a modern-day listener I'd say.
I don't have the edgy dude-bro inside me necessary to enjoy this. Sounds hateful and not in an artistic enough way for me.
Absolute classic, incredible from start to finish.
Beautiful song writing.
A lot less sleepy than I was expecting. Great tunes!
Nothing too interesting to me in here, maybe it was more impactful at the time it came out. I also think the production got in the way, it was way to quiet and flat sounding.
A little upset at liking this more than I thought I would... Guess this is getting older. Maybe it's time to try some live albums... Sigh
Soul perfection
An enjoyable listen but not something I'll be returning back to much. Beach Boys are really a singles band for me, front to back albums are not that interesting.
Man I love Rolling Stones' quieter more jammy songs. This album rules and I will be listening to it more. Moonlight Mile is the best!
