Modern Life Is Rubbish
BlurA great album with some of my favourite Blur tracks on it: Blue Jeans, Miss America, Oily Water, Chemical World, For Tomorrow. Still sounds fantastic
A great album with some of my favourite Blur tracks on it: Blue Jeans, Miss America, Oily Water, Chemical World, For Tomorrow. Still sounds fantastic
A few standout tracks: Wild Horses, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking, Bitch
A fantastic blend of jazz and hip hop. Some outstanding tracks
In the words of Shakin’ Stevens: lovely stuff
Not my cup of tea at all. Slow and uninspiring. I can’t stand the title track and it went downhill from there
A childhood album for me. Title track an absolute classic
Some cracking tunes, especially There Is a Light That Never Goes Out. Morrisey is a prize tosser though
It’s its time and not something I’ll rush back to, but didn’t mind listening to it again at all. A few enjoyable tracks have been added to my Best of 1001 Albums playlist and that’s more than the Eagles achieved
This was lovely, thoroughly enjoyed it and got better on the second listen. Standout track for me was Out of the Blue
There are a few standout tracks: 1999, Little Red Corvette and D.M.S.R. But it’s not his best and some of it drags
Really enjoyed this one. Elements of Lou Reed, Stone Roses and the Beatles in there. I Got the Hots and Tonight the standouts for me
Some good tunes on this and you can hear the similarities with desert stoner rock which I love. Much prefer Badmotorfinger, Rusty Cage being fantastic
It’s fine, isn’t it. Not sure how it ended up on albums you must listen to before you die. Very much like White Stripes and early Kings of Leon. Howlin’ for You very much like Rock n Roll part 2, which is no bad thing
Lovely to work to. The Trans-Europe Express suite is superb
Really enjoyed this, reminded me a lot of Bjork
Wunderbar
The Whale is a great tune. The rest of it: ‘don’t come back on ELO and carry on playing’
Can hear Fugazi and At the Drive-in in this which I enjoyed
Not a huge fan of his voice, but loved some of the arrangements
Probably won’t be listening to this again
Two Steps back is a standout. Very enjoyable in parts
Some good tracks but this is one of the most overrated albums of the 90s
Some lovely arrangements on here, some brilliant songs. Really enjoyed it and will listen again
Christ
The album following this one is their masterpiece imho. Definitely worth a listen if you’re not familiar with it
Was introduced to this through GTA San Andreas. Lots of fun
Brilliant songwriting, some absolute classics on there. Bridge Over Troubled Water has been ruined by X Factor/Pop Idol auditions, but If I Could and Only Living Boy in NY are superb
Really didn’t like how clean it sounded. One or two good tracks though
Had some moments when it was less manic, but this is way too avant-garde for me
Really enjoyed the driving rhythms throughout
Folksie shite
Love the title track and really enjoyed the second half soundscapes
Some good tunes on here, was pleasantly surprised
Lovely stuff
One of the best albums of the 90s for me. Relentlessly brilliant track after track and sounds like it could have been made now.
A couple of good songs but not something I’ll return to
Really enjoyed this on the whole. Loses its way a bit towards the end, but closes with a banger
Come on Eileen reminds me of a) every birthday party I went to when I was 14-18; b) the hilariously shit version done for Euro 2004, and; c) Spaced. One of my musical biases: I cannot stand fiddles in pop music.
I’m not a Queen fan, but some great songs on this one. The Loser in the End the pick of the bunch, vocals almost Robert Plantesque
John Frusciante made them a lot better when he came back. Some excellent songs on this. Very nostalgic to listen to again
Superb Mo Wax era hip-hop
Sonnet remains an absolute classic. Nice to revisit the whole thing again
A great album with some of my favourite Blur tracks on it: Blue Jeans, Miss America, Oily Water, Chemical World, For Tomorrow. Still sounds fantastic
