Was my fourth or fifth favourite Eels album... but better than I remember it being
Not the best Beatles album, but still 5*
I recall being sniffy about this album at the time, it didn't seem to have the youthful swagger & snarl of earlier releases. Listening to it now ... sounds amazing!
Great songs by a great band, I'm sure it was an amazing gig. But this record sounds so bad
In The Pines is the standout... but not a patch on Leadbelly
Lots of this hasn't endured. Sounds of its time, not always in a good way. There are a handful of tracks that have tho... I understand why it's on this list. If it had any kind of nostalgic quality for me it would probably rate higher
First few tracks felt like this record has a pleasing surface but no songs. Some nice woozy guitar but lacking in hooks... by the time Sweet Thing & Ice Cold Daydream wafted by I was revising my opinion. Then the final track just reinforces initial impressions.
