Nighthawks At The Diner
Tom WaitsFantastic album.
Fantastic album.
I just couldn't get into this one. I remember it being played a lot back when it was first released and, just like then, it never had any impact on me. I'd say that Ed Sheeran has been influenced by this. Not my cup of tea at all.
I'd forgotten how good this album really is. Straight ahead rock n roll with some great drum work. Back of the Bus is the stand out track for me. Supergrass were one of the truly great bands of the britpop era, far better than Oasis or Blur, imo.
I've actually been listening listening to this album a lot recently. I'm a big fan of punk music from this era and this is up there with the best of them.
I do like the VU and this is a pretty good album. I can hear harmonies similar to the Grateful Dead and some of the organ work is reminiscent of The Doors but it is still a good album.
What more can be said about this album? Or this man, for that matter? True genius.
I tried, i really tried. The music he samples is pretty good but the lyrical assault was just too much for me. There are only so many bitches, niggaz and gun references that i can take. Chronic would have been a better title for it.
Pure rubbish. I couldn't put myself through this bittersweet nonsense. I listened to a bit of each song and found each one nauseating.
Arguably the greatest live album of all time. I've owned a copy of this for a long time and never tire of listening to it. One of the best examples of having a lot of genres(Blues, Jazz, Soul, Rock)all rolled into one and played by a group of amazing musicians at the peak of their power.
This is my first time listening through this whole album. These guys done their homework cos the influences from all the great punk bands are apparent to hear, pistols, clash, DK's. I think this could have been a classic punk album if it had been released about 1981 but instead it was a springboard for bands like Blink 182 who were at the forefront of the American punk revival of the mid 90s along with Green Day. This is probably the best album i've heard from that time and genre. Well worth a listen.
Not my cup of tea. This is what i say when i think something is shit. The English inner city indian rapper during the first song is enough for me to stop listening. If you want to hear something similar to this only better and done by a better musician then give Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan a listen to.
About what i expected, REM being REM. Welcome to the Occupation is a good song, reminiscent of The Smiths. Not a bad album.
This is so bad. I'm sorry i listened to it.
I own a couple of Sly Stone's earlier albums and they're pretty good. This is my first time listening to this particular album and i'm completely underwhelmed. It hasn't a patch on the other two. I'm pretty disappointed in this, was expecting more.
Good album. This is what i should have been listening to in the 80s. It's a shame it's taken me 40 years to realise that ffs. Anyway, this is good music.
Never heard of this band before, not bad.
The last album of phase one, I ONE IX ^ HE DIE, No. 49, Cranberry Sauce. Brilliant album, so easy to listen to. Top notch.
Exactly as i expected. Late 70s American disco music, there were a lot of bands in this genre, i prefer The Crusaders to this though. Found it a bit repetitive and the lyrics weren't very imaginative.
Lovely stuff. Reminds me of numerous 80s indie bands, Echo, Siouxsie, Cure, Pixies and others. Definitely gonna buy this.
I always thought of Portishead as a band that college students would have liked just to sound cool. To me they're just a band who try to be too clever by using as many effects as they can. I got sick of the singers voice and almost identical style for each song. Pretty boring.
Pure rubbish.
Not bad, some good songs.
This one took me by surprise. I was expecting some awful tribal world music but this is reminiscent of the best soul/funk of 70s America. Amazing album.
Great 80's throwback. Probably the most underrated guitarist of all time.
In my all time Top Ten albums, my favourite group of all time, i don't need to say how great this is, it's enough just knowing it.
I don't like the singers style of singing, he makes each song sound the same.
Too dark.
Springsteen is one of these artists who i just cannot get into, he's like a mixture of Dylan and Tom Waits(both of whom i love, by the way)and it just doesn't work for me.
Outstanding, one of the last truly great bands.
So bad. It really is beyond me how she is so popular, it's obviously not for the quality of her music. When you get this album in your list, you have my deepest sympathies.
No one has a voice like Gerry Roslie. Those screams are amazing and fit perfectly, especially at the end of Psycho. A brilliant album.
Not bad, listenable. Not as good as his debut album, Echoes.
Good album with plenty of Zeppelin classics, Gallows Pole being the standout track.
Bloody awful.
I just don't like the rolling stones. I gave each song a quick listen and found them dull.
Just not for me.
I've never been a fan of the Rolling Stones so i've never listened to this album before, so i was surprised by how good it was. Jim Morrison definitely listened to this as the last song, What To Do is what he sounded like live.
I was totally surprised by this one. I remembered Fantastic Day and Love Plus One from when they were first released. Back then i was just a kid who was into the whole Mod revival and considered Haircut 100 as a novelty act, one hit wonder type of band but the musicianship on this album is amazing. I will definitely be getting this on vinyl, highly reccomended.
I'm always underwhelmed by this album. The title track is a good song, also Bennie and the Jets but i couldn't really get into the rest of it. There is a tune that's very Steely Dan-esque but i cant recall the name.
Terrible, every song sounds the same.
More rubbish.
Fantastic album from the only modern band of any note.
Good album, some very catchy intros. The singer is comparable to Nick Drake, his voice being a little higher. Enjoyed this.
Not for me. I might have enjoyed this when it first came oout but it does nothing for me now.
Fantastic. Not for kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very good. Never heard of them before now.
Fantastic album.
In my Top 5 all time greatest albums. The musicianship is unequalled. All tone and texture. Superb.
I have a copy of this but i haven't listened to it in years. Pretty good. Might get more of their albums based on this.
What a load of piss. This is as bad as it gets.
Classic 70s American rock. Great driving music.
