1001 Albums Summary

Some really interesting stuff, some not terribly palatable stuff. Not sure I'd put this one on the 1001 albums list before the first 2 big star albums, but there are moments that sound like the missing link between Brian Wilson and Elliott Smith.

Psychotically hooky. Still as vital as it was 35 (!) years ago.

Kinda of sounds like T. Rex by way of Chess/Stax. Despite falling prey to (or establishing?) certain production trends the early 2010’s -- distortion/reverb on the voice, melodic hooks being whistled - there are tight arrangements of drum and guitar, and mercifully there are no heave-ho crowd-shouted choruses or ukeleles. I like their first album better but this was pretty good quality for its time.

Not bad songwriting, production values are not to my taste. Probably won't ever seek it out again, but i suppose it's important from an historical perspective.

Fogerty's guitar tone is delightfully sharp on the rockers; not a big fan of the slower songs but they're not bad. Wish it was harder and faster, but overall it's still got it's place.

Sounds like the authentic version of a Paul Simon Afro-derivative album. Good melodies, good arrangements. My mind isn't blown but it's good.

Liked it better than I remember; solid post-punk songwriting, esp. Bob Mould's stuff. Still not exactly my flavor but I'll probably circle back round once in a while.

This is not my flavor of blues, but I don't begrudge the man his success. He hustled hard and played and sang well.
