Dated basic country music. Probably very compelling at the time but listening to it now I don't have any strong feelings. Bob's voice is grating but listenable. The solitary harmonica is very musically lacking and not as emotional as Bob thought it was in my opinion. The lyrics are too conversational and not very unique. He's certainly not the lyricist that everyone makes him out to be. Not bad, just nothing special. The themes are good; racial justice and ptsd awareness are especially important even to this day and I respect him, especially as a country artist for talking about them. That said it is very on the nose and lacks anything new to bring to the table. That may be because of the age although there were definitely people talking about racism with more complex and poignant takes even at the time; specifically artists of colour. The romantic parts are boring and honestly I switched off. The overall sound is average and could pass as background music. and none of the songs are particularly different from any of the others

It's alright 80s pop. very dated and not noteworthy in any respect other than mj being cultural icon and a very good singer.
