1001 Albums Summary

Solid rock album - lots of heavy-duty riffage to be enjoyed here. Although some tracks are weaker than others ("Mailman" kinds of lumbers along, for example), the bangers ("Fell On Black Days", "Black Hole Sun", etc.) still slap. and Chris Cornell is a force of nature.

Super hot percussion and keyboards carry the day here. In my opinion, Carlos Santana remains one of the most overrated guitar players in pop music history.

It's classic Bowie - gets better with each listen.

One of the best debut albums ever. Chrissie Hynde is a national treasure. RIP James Honeyman-Scott.

A tasty chunk of American rock and roll. Mike Campbell is an unsung secret weapon.

A classic of heaviness. Some tunes lose a bit of cohesiveness as they go on, but this is required listening.

Dense and groggy - I don't know if the whiplash approach works all the time, but there's a lot here for your ears to absorb.

Sonic mayhem abounds - well worth repeated listenings.

Non-Christians may have an issue with the God-centric core of the album, but this is a dense soul/jazz mix with one of the greatest singers ever.

Deep folk/jazz - a step beyond what you may expect from a folk album, using unique backing instrumentation.

The Sledge sisters are excellent here. But Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards really carry the day here.

Nostalgia pull was there for this one. After hearing it again, I don't know if I'd ever return to it in full. "Heartbreaker" remains the repository of sloppy Jimmy Page guitar playing. But man, what a rhythm section.

Revolutionary. RIP, Eddie.

Fela Kuti and band are great - Ginger Baker is great at speeding up the tempo in an annoying manner.

God, what a slog. In my list of lead singers whose voice I find supremely irritating, Brandon Flowers is now solidly in second place, just behind Billy Corgan.

Chewy low-fi cut-and-paste tastiness.

This album kind of meandered from start to finish. It's briefly rescued here and there by some extra instrumentation, but it's mainly just a big stew of midrange.

The bangers still slap. It's a mixed bag lyrically, but you really can't deny what a breath of fresh air this seemed at the time.
