Different Class by Pulp
Jan 15 2024

By no means is this a bad album. Many of the songs on the album are very good, and sonically none of the songs on this album sound bad or are mixed poorly, but on the whole this album failed to keep my attention throughout. Maybe I'll listen to it again and feel better about it, but right now it's just a high-mid album. Underwear is great, Common People feels like something right out of a Talking Heads project (in a good way), but a lot of the other songs, while good sounding, didn't keep me engaged enough to call this album anything better than an 8/10

I think that this is as good of evidence as any that Yoko Ono was actually a positive creative influence on John, even if pretty much everything she made herself is pretty terrible. There's clear signs of Yoko's flavor of artistic weirdness woven between the sounds that made the Beatles legends, leading to a truly great and heartfelt album.

Phrenology by The Roots
Jan 22 2024

This album varies between pretty average and incredibly good. The last track "Thirsty!" Is really a knockout, imo, and I don't think that any of the tracks on the album are really short of being 'good'. Overall a very good listening experience, and one that I'll probably come back to sooner rather than later.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Jan 23 2024

This is a good album in a style that I'm not entirely fond of. Broadly, the songs are competently written, and the lyrics are interesting, but this album also sounds shockingly underwhelmingly mixed for a 2010 album. If the mixing wasn't so flat on some of these songs, then I would be inclined to give this up to 10 more points, but as it stands, I can't give this more than an 80.

La Revancha Del Tango by Gotan Project
Jan 24 2024

Great album with lots of interesting, highly varied tango tracks
