This is an album that I've heard many times before taking on this challenge, and it's for good reason. It's one of the best metal albums that has been made, at least in my opinion. Songs like "Battery" and "Master of Puppets" are still essential metal songs to this day, and just in general, I think this is a great gateway album for people trying to get into metal. Overall, amazing album.
High 9
This is unfortunately one of those albums where one song (in this case the title track) kind of overshadows the rest of the album. That being said, I still enjoyed it overall.
Probably a 7
I know it's extremely cliche to call this one of the greatest albums of all time, but if I'm being honest, it really is that amazing in my opinion. Every song on here is just incredible, but my favorite one has to be "Let Down," which is just a powerful song. This is without question one of the albums that everyone should hear at least once in their lifetime.
10/10
Honestly, I'm not 100% sure if this whole jam band scene is really my thing. I do love what I'm hearing, but most of it just kind of goes in one ear and out the other. Nothing really sticks with me all that much. But like I said, I did still really enjoy this, and maybe one day, I'll really get into it.
Oh yeah, I also heard the 2003 version of this album, because it made the most sense to me.
8/10
It's funky. What else is there to say about it?
Low 9
This is totally just a me thing, but this is the best britpop album that I've heard, if you want to even call it britpop, because it honestly is just some killer-ass rock songs.
10/10
As a step away from the Britpop sound that Blur were known for, they do a very great job at making music that sounds more like the stuff that you'd hear in America, even if they were doing it in a joking manner.
Mid 9
How have I not heard of this band until now? This is totally up my alley. Whatever, glad I did check this out though, even if some pockets of it were a bit odd.
Probably an 8
Enjoyable album, even if "Dancing Queen" kind of overshadows most of the rest of the songs.
Low 8
I guess it's worth bringing up that I'm not really all that much of a jazz person. Like, I have enjoyed what I've heard, but it's not the type of music that I actively seek out if that makes any sense. I will say that for what it is, I did enjoy Jazz Samba. It was pretty pleasant, and I definitely wouldn't mind putting it back on at some point in the future.
Probably a 7
This was overall good. Nothing super amazing or anything like that, but I am wondering as to why critics back then were so harsh towards them.
Probably a 7
Ehhhhhhhh, not really a fan of this one. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it teeters the line between ok and just plain boring. Idk, consider me filtered I guess lol
Low 6
At some point this album all but completely lost me, and what I was hearing just started to blend into one another. Not really a fan of this one either unfortunately.
Probably a 6
Holy crap! This album's amazing! Very peaceful jazz music that just seeps into my skull whenever I listen to it. Absolutely worth checking out, even if you don't think you're much of a jazz person
10/10
I listened to one of my friends rant about Phish shows over hearing this album in the background, so I didn't pick up much of the finer details. Still, first impressions are strong.
Probably an 8
This was a very chill listen. I enjoyed it.
Probably an 8
Another nice album to listen to and just vibe along with.
Probably an 8
When it comes to modern dream pop, Beach House is essentially the go-to artist, and Teen Dream is definitely one of their finer albums. Every song on here feels quaint but also lush. I do admittedly prefer some of their other albums (namely Bloom and s/t), but this is still a great place to start if you're looking to get into Beach House.
Mid 9
Another enjoyable album. I'm not sure how exactly they transform these songs into hour long performances just yet, but we'll see what happens I guess.
Probably an 8
This one was a rough listen for me. It was either pretty ok and somewhat uninteresting, or in the case of "Brown Sugar," extremely uncomforting. Overall, as far as studio albums go, this was not a good start to the Stones catalog.
Probably a 6
Day 22
Yeah I enjoyed this. I would make a French joke about how they aren't so bad after all, but legit, Idk why people meme that so hard into the ground.
Probably an 8, maybe a 9
Probably wasn't as boring as the other Eric Clapton album I heard earlier, but I still don't have a whole lot to say outside of a couple of songs being pretty good.
Probably a 6, maybe a 7
Probably the defining album of the whole garage rock revival scene (by some metrics anyways). The way that Jack and Meg do so much with so little is quite impressive. I will admit that the 2nd half is better than the first, but even despite that, this is still a great album.
High 8
Day 25
Album started to lose me a lil bit after the first four tracks, but overall, I did enjoy this way more than I was expecting to.
Probably an 8
While not my favorite Can album (that honor would go to Future Days), this is definitely Can's most ambitious and most adventurous album, especially given how much of the second half is this very odd and kinda creepy sound collage and musique concrete. My favorite song of the bunch is the side long "Halleluwah," which is just one of the funkiest things this group ever did. Overall, amazing album. Definitely worth checking out.
Mid 9
Yeah, this was another ok album. Nothing too special here.
Probably a 6
While nowhere near as adventurous as many of the Beatles' later albums, this album is still a pretty fun listen. I'd probably put Please Please Me over this, but yeah.
7 or 8
I think I liked this fine enough? Not sure though.
Probably a 7
Hell yeah this album was really good. Carole King has a lovely voice, and I dig the instrumentation a lot.
An 8 or 9
It's great. I'll need to relisten to it to get a more concrete opinion, but yeah, it's great.
8/10
It's fucking Pornography. What else needs to be said?
(You can tell I'm so not used to reviewing albums in a while lmao)
10/10
This is an incredible album with some hard-hitting tracks and also some very emotional cuts as well. Definitely worth a listen if you're getting into the power pop genre.
Mid 9
A very emotional album that has only become more potent as time progresses. Rest in peace Jeff Buckley.
Mid 9
I won't lie, I've always loved The Joshua Tree. As much of a hot take that is in some circles, I still stand by this album's merits. It's just a very interesting look at what it means to pursue the American dream and how people perceive said dream.
Really enjoy this album, and while not every song is a 100% winner, the songs that are incredible rank as some of The Smith's best songs.
Mid 9
Idk why, but I actually fw Pantera's music in general. I think the two albums that came after Vulgar Display of Power are better, but this is still an overall great album with some of the band's best songs.
Mid 9
Great album with some insane sampling.
8/10
While not the best R.E.M. album imo, it is still an incredible release and certainly a high point within their career.
Pretty solid pop soul, but it's not really an album that I see myself revisiting all that much.
One of the grooviest albums to have ever come out, Remain in Light remains (heh) to be one of the greatest albums ever made. Everyone is on their A-game here, and every song is killer. Amazing album.
This is an impressive outing from Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The first half especially is some of the best that country rock has to offer. Would recommend.
I was fine with this, until I realized that every single song on here feels like a forgettable closer that, in the context of some other album, would've probably hit harder after some bangers. As is, there is no weight behind any of these songs, and by the end, yeah, I was just sick of this. Not something that I'd listen to again any time soon.
"Avalanche" is one of the greatest songs ever made.
The rest of the album is pretty great too.
3 Feet High and Rising is a bit on the lengthy side, and not all of the skits work, but there are still many classic hip hop songs on here, especially "Eye Know," so I'd say it deserves its classic status.
Do I hate Kanye West? Yes. Do I think My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a masterpiece? Absolutely! It is one of the most impressive outings in pop rap, and songs like "Dark Fantasy" and "Runaway" are some of my favorite songs of all time. So, say what you will about how Kanye is a piece of shit, but...
Actually, Idk if I can convince any naysayers that this album is amazing at this point. Oh well.
Very great country album. It's a shame that Gram Parsons didn't get to see its release.
Heavenly dream pop. Just pure bliss from start to finish.
One of the best debut albums to come out of metal. Point blank period.
Maybe I'm just going crazy, but this is not what I was advertised. Like, it's fine as is, but there is a certain quirkiness present on here that I couldn't really gel with all that much.
Very important and influential album in this garage rock revival scene. It's probably the one that embodies that scene the absolute most, which is certainly commendable.
One of the prettiest alt rock albums to have ever graced the 90s. It's a damn shame that this is Jeff Buckley's only release before he passed.
Very energetic punk music with a huge knack for catchy pop melodies. I can definitely see why so many people hold this album in high regards.
First half is absolutely flawless, and the 2nd half is also very great. Would recommend highly.
A bit long, and not every song is a winner, but it still has some incredible songs regardless. Also, the production on display here is top-notch.
Very amazing prog rock album. I even love the free improv track "Moonchild." It's oddly relaxing and makes for a great calm before the closing track.
Very enjoyable punk album
