Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul
Otis ReddingDelightful music, love his voice.
Delightful music, love his voice.
What an absolute behemoth of an album (this generator needs to give me a break with these double LPs). I was enjoying it until Hey Ya! — after that, it was somewhat of a struggle to listen all the way to the end. While it has some bangers there are just too many unnecessary tracks here.
Soulful lyrics, great hooks, clean production – truly a beautiful blend of greatness. My only gripe is that I feel it's a little front-heavy and could've been condensed slightly.
An album full of instantly recognizable, comforting tracks. Minus one star because I was missing an element of surprise.
Classic metal album with cool guitar riffs and lyrics sadly still relevant today.
This album has a sort of minimalistic and calming feel, despite the lyrics being about a murderer apparently. I don't see myself listening to this one again though.
All I can think of is the word "uplifting". Also, cowbells!
David Bowie really was ahead of his time huh? Some really interesting soundscapes here, as well as just some solid great tracks.
Not really my type of music, idk what else to say.
Her voice is beautiful but the instrumentation doesn't do much for me. Also, something about the slow tempo throughout made the individual songs hard to distinguish.
It's a bit long and lacks overall consistency I think, but has some highlights. Cutting some of the less-good tracks out would have benefited this one I think.
I like progressive rock in general and the instrumental bits made it a worthwhile listen, not the biggest fan of his voice though.
Delightful music, love his voice.
I'm pleasantly surprised by this album, beautifully soulful and joyful at times.
The lyrics, the instrumentals, the concept behind all this... a true masterpiece.
I heard Bring Da Ruckus and went – yep, that's a classic/5 alright.
A moody, groovy album. I especially like the bossa nova mixed with electronic elements. Nothing that really stands out but an interesting listen nonetheless.
Nice pop/folk album, his vocals are impressive. "Pleasant street" and "Once I was" were really great tracks in particular.
Past me would have loved this album had I heard it back in 2013, it's very millenial hipster coded. Could use a shorter runtime or more variety to keep things a bit more interesting though; I don't see myself listening to this again besides the nostalgia-factor.
I like how 90's grunge this sounds, it even has some shoegaze vibes which I was not expecting. I don't mind the production either, it has some similarities to Hüsker Dü and Pixies. I wish the angry parts were sung even more angrily though, lol.
Hmm, it has some standout tracks but overall it's just okay. A tad overrated I feel.
This album manages to keep things interesting enough despite the short length. I feel like the ending was a bit abrupt though.
Jazz is one of the genres I don't usually listen to, but this was a pleasant listen. I don't see myself actively seeking this album out to listen to again, but if I heard this playing in the background somewhere I'd probably be vibing with it. Edit: I have, in fact, sought this out to listen to it again so I'll bump this rating up by one star.
Solid good album, I like the grand and triumphant sound on this album and it's a classic indie rock album for sure.
This album has stood the test of time a little too well, if possible... I think I'll need to come back to this one, it hasn't quite clicked with me instantly.
Sounds very retro and like a breath of fresh air at the same time, which is pretty impressive.
The first three tracks are great although overplayed, meanwhile the rest of it felt like a bit of a drag to listen through.
I am wowed by this, it's beautifully crafted, minimalistic and meditative. It's the kind of album that just washes over you. I can only imagine how groundbreaking this must've been in the 70's.
This feels like an album I'll have to listen to a couple of times to appreciate properly. It's not bad but it doesn't really click with me either.
Well this somehow gave me two R.E.M. albums back to back and this one feels worse than the previous, so...
The production is very 80's and kind of cheesy sounding, which I suppose is kind of charming about this. Her voice suits the bluesy style nicely. Not really my taste of music so it did get kind of uninteresting towards the end though.
Pretty standard 80's synthpop / rock. This has some alright moments in the middle (sunrise/elegia) but overall the vocals and lyricism leave a lot to be desired so this falls into the 'forgettable' category. The last two songs almost made me want to drop my rating to one star but I guess the first half is decent enough.
This album serves a long-awaited continuation of My Bloody Valentine's classic sound. It's melodic, dense, layered and textural, but also slightly more aggressive and disjointed than the continuously flowing dreamscape of loveless. Slight differences aside they really don't reinvent the wheel here, it's more like "here's the wheel you already know and love, with some bits and pieces added". And to that I say thank you.
Considering my low expectations for this album it actually wasn't that terrible. I wasn't expecting the funkiness? Too bad the lyrics just sound borderline cringy to me ("your mouth was made to suck my kiss" ??) and I could have done without the awful rapping. But if you're able to ignore that the instrumentals are actually quite good.
I like the atmosphere of this album, definitely the kind of record you put on when you're feeling a certain type of mood. I enjoyed the minimalistic yet mysterious vibe this album has. It's a bit difficult to rate because I think this works well as a full album but the individual tracks didn't really stand out to me, however I did listen to this twice so I'll give them an extra star for that.
Feels very reminiscent of the nightclub scene in the 80's - I wasn't there but this is pretty much how I imagine it. Interesting juxtaposition of the upbeat synths with the emotional vocals. This feels very unserious but kind of dark at the same time, I have pretty mixed feelings about this one.
It starts out strong, kind of fizzles out in the middle, but picks back up again towards the end. Overall, it's a pretty solid album though and the guitar playing really stands out in a great way.
If not the most innovative stuff out there, it sure is a fun listen. It starts out with a bang and never stops — to the point that my ears were craving some breathers in between.
Not mind-blowing or anything but I don't really have any notes either – very solid, classic rock album.
I liked this one a lot; this kind of neo-psychedelia sound is right up my alley. I was half-drifting asleep while listening to it, and I think that only added to my enjoyment.
I tried to give this album a chance but there is just something about their sound that I can't stand. It sounds exactly like the generic metal music that plays at the gym and I'm forced to listen against my will. The last track summarises my listening experience perfectly: 'The Struggle Within'.
Ah, the quintessential Tumblr album. I don't know if this has aged the best but it does make me very nostalgic in a sad way. Very vibey and chill, minimalistic album.
Hmm, not the easiest listen but at least it wasn't boring. Might need a couple more listens to get properly into.
Very 60's, very bluesy, very groovy.
For an album titled 'Darklands' this was very happy and hopeful sounding to my ears. The kind of music you'd listen to while falling in love with someone.
This album has a very timeless and catchy quality. Simple yet groovy tunes.
I've heard a lot of praise for this album without ever listening to it (apart from 'Do You Realize?') so it's nice to finally give it a chance. The first impression is that it's a quirky, melodic, soothing album that could potentially grow on me with multiple listens.
An alright listen but I feel like this band has better albums as well.
Pretty standard 60's album, and pretty forgettable at that...
You know what? At least it's unique and interesting, which I can appreciate during this challenge, where some albums just fail to leave a lasting impression at all.
Despite not understanding a word, it's impossible not to groove to this. Also, the cuica is now a conteder for my favorite instrument alongside cowbells.
Unfortunately, I didn't really have a chance to read the lyrics while listening to this, so I'm sure I missed some of the meaning. On its own, the music sounds just alright to me. While I enjoy this kind of theatrical/orchestral music on occasion, his voice doesn't really do anything for me.
An album that's hard not to like — it's just so incredibly easy to listen to and smooth. Maybe it borders on cheesy, but somehow it doesn't put me off; that's how well it's done.
New wave done really, really well. Very catchy! Somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars I think.
What an absolute behemoth of an album (this generator needs to give me a break with these double LPs). I was enjoying it until Hey Ya! — after that, it was somewhat of a struggle to listen all the way to the end. While it has some bangers there are just too many unnecessary tracks here.
Dreamy, atmospheric modern rock with a strong 80's influence. I enjoy the chill, almost shoegazy vibe it has. This one's going on my summer road trip soundtrack for sure.
Soulful lyrics, great hooks, clean production – truly a beautiful blend of greatness. My only gripe is that I feel it's a little front-heavy and could've been condensed slightly.
Starts and ends very strongly, the mid section had some less impactful songs but overall this has some great, classic tracks.
I was expecting another kind of boring rock album, but luckily I was wrong. Loving the gospel influence all over. Also manages to stay mostly consistent despite its long runtime (although I do think I prefer the first half overall).
