Power In Numbers
Jurassic 5Classic, but hard to get over some of the corniness.
Classic, but hard to get over some of the corniness.
A more psychedelic Beatles. Some classics, but inconsistent, and devolves into a closing jam sesh at the end.
Decent Radiohead album, but tainted by my reception of the original pricing model despite Saul Williams having released his album with the same model first.
Down the middle 90's rock. Nothing exciting, but does what it says on the tin.
This was a solid, funky album! I detected a lot of things that have inspired subsequent albums.
I was happiest before hearing this album, and second happiest when it finished. Fuck Morrissey.
Fine -- some highs, some lows, soggy in the middle. This made me miss The Good, The Bad, and The Queen.
Funky classic.
A classic. Lots of memories of my dad playing this at home. It's been years since I last listened to it and I still remember most of the words. The stereo separation/mixing took a little getting used to. It's wild thinking about how stereo was a novelty at one point.
Some funky moments, but it doesn't hit all the way through for me. Generally the Beastie Boys flow wears thin pretty quick, relying on the instrumentals to carry it through. That Car Thief bass line 😍 It's wild how much sampling you could get away with back in the day.
I found this pretty forgettable. Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace, or the impact was such that it set the new bar that all current-day music is easily able to clear.
Absolutely iconic. Fond memories of this as a kid, too.
This is a classic album, both in content and in ways some of the content has not aged well. Balancing my memories of listening to this in my CD player on the bus to school against the high level of homophobic language used is an exercise in containing multitudes. That aside, it's got a few too many tracks, and I'm glad we've moved away from having skits. Let the music do the talking!
Funky! This felt a little too NPR-coded for my taste.
A classic! The sex sketches were awkward, and were definitely intended for shock value.
Had some highs, but this was way too long. The tracks ended up blending in to each other.
Every song here remains a banger (except Number 9, eff that). Doesn't feel like the 2 disc set it is, although I could do without Yoko screaming.
Hadn't heard this before. Classic EJ, so some highs, but pretty boring.
This album definitely had one of those "OH THIS IS WHO PERFORMED THAT SONG" moments. Forgettable otherwise.
I'm sure this is technically good and beautiful but it's very much not my cup of tea.
Pyschedelic and funky. I was thrown off because the 2008 remaster of this had almost another hour's worth of tracks on it consisting of the original mixes and alternate versions.
Solid jazz album I hadn't heard before. Didn't overstay its welcome, either.
Classic Dylan. Not my thing.
She can sing, but this album was too indulgent. Lots of songs saying the same thing, and it made the entire thing less palatable.
Absolutely iconic. As a teenager, this album is what showed me turntablism was more than just scratching.
Funky, weird, dated.
I'm not the biggest Radiohead fan, but even I can admit this is a hell of an album.
Hell yeah, this felt both modern and of a time. I guess that makes it timeless?
I've never not known Elvis as a meme, so it was nice to take this in. He obviously has talent, and there were some jams, but it didn't really do much for me beyond that.
Jangly and folky, I can see how this influenced various bands. It's giving Flogging Molly/Dropkick Murphys energy.
It's almost unfair including this in the mix. This is my era of indie. I do think the album sags a little in the middle, but it's got some insane highs.
Technically proficient, but this has never been my kind of music.
Despite how foundational this album was to alternative rock, I've actually never listened to the album. Holy crap is it long. I appreciate how many different sounds they've fit into it, but it overstays its welcome.
As with anything from The Cure, the vibes and production are immaculate. However, Robert Smith's vocals never do well over the course of an album for me.
Way too melodramatic for me. This is a musical, right?
This feels like it was before it's time. Some highs and some lows, but I'm glad I was able to listen to it. The Portishead remix on the edition I listened to was great.
Maybe it's because I was listening to this sober, but man was this mid.
Good live album!
Funky, but not my jam.
Meh, this didn't do it for me. As I develop my scale, I find this to be middle of the road.
This is such a classic album. I miss Portishead so much. No skips, all bangers.
Funkier and jazzier than I expected, this was a pleasant discovery.
Operatic and funky, I didn't get bored listening to this. The features fit in with the dimensions of her personality that are being explored, and I appreciated the variety.
Didn't quite hit for me, although the Cinco de Mayo timing was a fun nod to this album.
I've never actually listened to this album, and only a few songs here and there. I know this is foundational indie for a lot of folks, but it feels pretty dated today. I love Angeles and the covers it has spawned.
This went a lot harder than I expected. I dug it.
Funkier than expected, I found this enjoyable.
I liked this way more than I thought I would. The Police have always been a meme band to me, so to hear musicality and grooves from them was a pleasant discovery.
