Figure 8 by Elliott Smith

Did this guy pay to be on the list?

Abstract, almost feels like a precursor to modern techno thru 3 songs. “Time” spiked my anxiety Fuck Pink Floyd for that song. Second half carries the album to me. Feels innovative but very random/haphazard. The chaos of some of these songs combined with a structured album loop is interesting. After reading the description much of the nature makes sense. Great album, not seeing anything memorable enough to deserve some of the hype.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
Mar 01 2025

Long repetitive sections get old - Boring and slow does nothing to really move the song (Piggy). Sonically can get brutal, unable to understand some lyrics without reading. Obviously very angsty, but intriguing with the general tone of the album. Spaces where they have drawn out instrumentals to build tension is a good element. Great concept for an album, feels very personal. Reznor is an interesting character that definitely bleeds through on this album, great imagery and vulnerability in the lyrics, although not much my speed in terms of tone/feel for a suicidal narrative until the end.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen

Very exceptional storytelling. Feels like little minimovies in each song.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Mar 03 2025

Generational sounding album. Can tell it’s a precursor that inspires music like mos def and Wu-Tang in the following years. Even 3 decades old, this album is still fun to listen to and feels fresh. Very fun listen with great lyricism/artistry. First I had heard the cypher or group rapping. (It deleted my previous notes, pieced them back together quickly)

Vulnicura by Björk
Mar 07 2025

Bjork has a great voice, but not my kind of pacing or structure. Still an enjoyable one time listen.

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Mar 11 2025

Top 10 album OAT for me. Composition is great, perfect encapsulation of the randomness of Bowie, along with some of his more popular singles
