Aqualung by Jethro Tull

Eeee I need to try this again lol. Listened to on the way home from a job interview; probably not giving the album its best shot. I think I like what jethro tull do, I’m new to them and still getting a grasp on their music. My initial reaction to this project was not as positive as “Thick as a Brick” 2.5/5

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Apr 26 2025

Grandeur AND subtlety! My first time listening to an Elton John album. Loved the string arrangements. Never noticed the country-isms in Elton’s voice before.

Play by Moby
Apr 28 2025

I don’t think this album has aged well however I understand that it could have sounded fresh at the time. Certain tracks really tap into a part of my brain that makes me feel nostalgic or even liminal. Others leave a lot to be desired.

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
May 08 2025

The short interlude-like tracks prevent this being a perfect album for me, but it is so SO close. I love this project. The musicians are locked-in, grooving and elastic. Tom is sinister, vulnerable; and sharp-tongued as ever.

Familiar with mayfield’s music but never given this one a listen. Love the politically conscious lyrics. Musically it is sublime; the bass lines really shined for me. Needs a few more listens to really get a hold of what’s going on here 3.5 / 5

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
May 11 2025

Really well put together. Most of the tracks really hit you over the head while still offering nuance and precision. Some of the tracks show their age and made me cringe; but hey, it’s a product of its time.

May 12 2025

Feeling pretty indifferent about this one. Everything great about O’Connor is present here; folk tinged with reflective and socially conscious lyrics. Vocals are good across all tracks but don’t quite match the brilliance of “Nothing Compares 2 U”. I found the instrumentation boring, there are moments of lush strings and punchy drums but it’s not enough for me. 2.5/5

The Next Day by David Bowie
May 13 2025

Was not expecting to enjoy this album as much as I did. Getting a gothic/post-rock influence mixed with Bowie’s signature flare and swagger. Loved it.

Horses by Patti Smith

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
May 20 2025

First S&G album experience for me. It’s everything I should love but I didn’t feel an attachment to it on first listen. I will certainly pursue more S&G 2.5/5

Queen II by Queen
May 24 2025

I will revisit this album in future. Something just fell flat here. The performances are identifiably energetic yet felt restricted - I suspect the mixing could be to blame here. May’s neo-classical guitar flourishes should cut through but end up muffled in the mud; and songwriting is generally weak. However Mercury, as a vocalist, is as outstanding as ever. 2.5/5

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Jun 01 2025

Stone cold classic. I felt genuinely excited when I saw this come up as my album today - purely based on a desire and excuse to listen to this masterpiece. Early sabbath really puts me into that dark folklore, psychedelic wizard headspace that I love. Perhaps this album is overplayed and thus overrated for some, but it is still near perfect to my ears. 4.5/5

Jun 06 2025

I know it’s a product of its time but sheesh… the homophobia made this an uncomfortable listen. Skits are boring, beats are dull. Couldn’t really see past any of that.
