A timeless classic, one of my favorite albums of all time. A great way to start this challenge. I especially love how effortless and laid back the album is with punchy instrumentals and ELITE wordplay. There is a series of essays about a tribe called quest called go ahead in the rain that I highly recommend if you’re into them.
Not my type of thing normally but overall I enjoyed listening, not sure if I’d go back but it was a good change of pace and the instrumentals and vocals were pretty solid.
I listened to this one for the Top 500 Rolling stones albums, here's what I had to say at the time: Going into listening to this album, I had only ever heard 7 nation army, and I was pleasantly surprised with the rest of this album. not into EVERY song but love a lot of the concepts and there are very few tracks I straight up didn't like.
I think for the most part I feel the same upon this listen. 7 nation army bangs so hard.
I really liked this one, the mix of classic late 80's to early 90's pop and the kinda whiney (in a good way) R.E.M vocals i've come to expect at this point made for an enjoyable listen.
OutKast has such an interesting and wonderful way of making music. This one obviously has some all time classics but many of the songs you don't hear all the time are on the same level of clever lyrics, engaging instrumentals, and great vibes.
I thought this one was a good listen, lots of range with some upbeat fun songs and emotional ballads. I didn't realize how many people had covered Hallelujah, I felt like his was one of the better ones I've heard.
I didn't really know what to expect from this since the cover looked like a Sleep paralysis demon and I had never heard of this artist, but I was super impressed. It sounded like there was a lot of influence from Asian and African musical styles which was really intriguing. It was super unique and I really enjoyed the listen.
I didn't dislike this at all but didn't really like it that much either lol. I think that this kinda sounds like Hoobastank honestly but a little bit less interesting. This is kind of a more general note but I think since all of these albums are very highly rated and classics, I probably need to start being a little more critical, which is going to start here, was originally thinking 3, but going to go 2 here. Might edit some of my older ones if it lets me.
A really great listen, I kept wanting to find reasons to rate this lower, but I feel like every song is enjoyable and adds to the greater context of the project. I really enjoyed revisiting.
Solid album, to me Breakdown, and Fooled again are the standout tracks. Makes me want to mow my lawn with my shirt off drinking a PBR.
I used to listen to this with my dad a lot growing up. Lots of nostalgia associated with this one for sure. compared to much of the rap I listen to today I've kind of forgotten how bare and basic the instrumentals were on a lot of these 90's rap albums, definitely makes it easier to focus specifically on the lyrics. Really enjoyed my re-listen and I think this is one that is timeless.
This reminds me of like video game music, I just feel like I'm at a menu or loading screen or something as I listen lol. Was honestly super great for work and made it easier for me to lock in and stay focused, but not necessarily anything I would want to listen to casually and not sure if I'd go back personally.
I'm going to say something that is going to piss some people off, but I really don't understand how The Beatles became like so insanely popular. I know it probably is more of a "you had to be there" thing, but whenever I listen I don't think "wow this is so much better than similar artists from this period. Okay hater time over, I really enjoy their music, and this album in particular has a lot of really good tracks that I'd never heard before. Devil in her heart and All my loving were the standout tracks to me.
Medley: The lark in the Morning, was str8 gas. I'm not really one for this kind of folky sound, but this one was a fine listen. Found myself getting kinda bored for large sections of the album, but there were some tracks that stood out like the one I mentioned before.
Completely fine, there were a couple of songs I liked in the first half but the second half kinda trailed off imo.
The vocals are really the key to this one for sure. In terms of instrumentals and general composition I wasn't super impressed but also not really disappointed either. Solid album with a gutsy and memorable singing performance
I was really pleased with this one. I'd never heard of Peter Gabriel before today, not sure if that's embarrassing or not. I think what I like most is that it feels like there are a lot of different inspirations for the instrumentals on these tracks, I feel like the contrast between tracks like Modern Love and Down the Dolce Vita makes for a journey through the album.
This was alright, I wasn't really moved, I honestly don't know how many time I listened through it I couldn't really differentiate most of the songs from each other. Mannequin was heat tho.
A classic album, I really enjoyed listening to it. Stan Getz has a pretty interesting Wikipedia life story if you're curious.
Not really for me, Debaser and I bleed are good, I felt like a lot of it sounded the same to me and I didn't really get sucked in.
I like the instrumentals on this especially Still take you home. Pretty solid listen overall
I was really impressed with the variety of different sounds on this album, I felt like it was a really good listening experience from beginning to end. Your Latest Trick is a BANGER.
Not really my thing but I can definitely appreciate what they were doing here and glad I at least listened. Manimal was pretty good.
This made me feel like I should be wearing chainmail and foraging in the woods. The Cuckoo was one I really liked and generally speaking I enjoyed listening, but not one I'd come back to probably.
I didn't know who Tears For Fears were but I've loved their music for years. This album was a great listen, Soulful, great vocals, great lyricism, some of the great songs ever made in tracks like shout and everybody wants to rule the world. Gonna bust out a rare but well deserved 5er on this one.
As a self proclaimed loverboy/simp myself, I found myself relating to this album. Great cover of blue skies, and while it's simple it just works.
I'm confused why I liked this one as much as I did if I'm being honest. Maybe my heart is softened since I just listened to stardust, but this definitely isn't my normal type of music, but I really enjoyed this album, especially tracks like Some Misunderstanding and No Other
Not really sure what to say about this one to be completely honest, I think it sounds pretty good overall.
I was really excited to listen to this one top to bottom, but I honestly wasn't as impressed as I was expecting. Shutdown is still an elite song and there are some other bangers on this one but there are some duds as well. A 3 but definitely a high 3.
Alright but like what are we saying here? Big ballad of nothing is honestly one of the best song titles in all of music and in my eyes, is applicable to the album as a whole, a ballad of nothing.
This song is #2 on the rolling stones top 500. Do I think this is the second best album ever made? Absolutely not. Do I think it's the second most influential? Also no. However, what I do know is that Wouldn't it be nice is an all timer and a great way to open an album, and every song gives you something to really key in on whether it be the vocals, instrumentals, or lyrics.
I think most of the songs on this album I was hearing for the first time. I have always appreciated the Queen songs I've heard but never sought them out. I was really impressed with the overall production and sound, I was very engaged and interested the whole time. Favorite track was definitely march of the black queen.
Leonard is certainly wooing someone with these..... melodies and versus i guess we can call them. I am not that someone.
Fun one! Vocals were very grassroots and I felt like I needed to be doing manual labor or swinging a pickaxe or something while I listened along.
Pretty good, I enjoyed the album overall, This cover art is hilarious.
Solid album, and overall a good listen. A little bit repetitive at times, but overall, I enjoyed listening, and I think now more than ever some of the lyricism is especially meaningful.
This one was a super fun listen, I enjoyed the fact that there were a lot of influences from other genres in the album. This is really SO 80's, from the vocals to the instrumentals, but it all fit together in a way I liked a lot.
Probably not one I would come back to but I thought the vocal performance here was really solid and I was really interested to read that the album was inspired by poetry, because I felt like I needed a second listen to really get behind some of the lyrics.
Watermelon man is one of my favorite songs of all time. Man they just don't make them like they used to, the long tracks really let you get into the groove and feel like you're at a jam session with the band. Love this album.
Perfect Album, no skips. I think this might be the first time I've listened to this top to bottom, I didn't realize how short it was. Golden lady was the track that really stood out to me on this time listening. Stevie wonder might be my favorite musician ever and this is some of his best.
I think this one was better than I'm your man, but still not really something I was super moved by.
This one was super cool, I don't really have much to say outside of it being a good vibe and something I probably wouldn't come back to but enjoyed listening to
The brothers who were the main founding members of this band had 6 older sisters??? wild lol. I liked this one, bluesy british invasion was the vibe I was getting. Victoria is much better than I remembered, been bumping that one for a couple days now.
An Album ain't 4+ hours lol
