Album 2/1001 Brilliantly captures the mood of life in mid 90s Britain - positive and hopeful about life in spite of its hardships. โI remember Nirvana had a tune called โI Hate Myself and Want to Dieโ, and I was like โฆ โWell, Iโm not fucking having that.โ โฆ We had fuck-all, and I still thought that getting up in the morning was the greatest fuckinโ thing ever...Everythingโs gonna be fine. Stay optimistic. If thereโs dark clouds coming, theyโll leave again. They always do. The world is round... No matter how big a pile of shite youโve gotten yourself into... you will get over it. It will go away just like the weather.โ ~Noel Gallagher Favourite lyrics: LIVE FOREVER: "Maybe I just wanna fly Wanna live, I don't wanna die Maybe I just wanna breathe Maybe I just don't believe Maybe you're the same as me We see things they'll never see You and I are gonna live forever." SUPERSONIC: "I need to be myself I can't be no one else I'm feeling supersonic, give me gin and tonic You can have it all, but how much do you want it? You make me laugh Give me your autograph Can I ride with you in your BMW? You can sail with me in my yellow submarine" " ...I know a girl called Elsa, she's into Alka-Seltzer She sniffs it through a cane on a supersonic train And she makes me laugh I got her autograph She done it with a doctor on a helicopter She's sniffin' in a tissue, sellin' the Big Issue" Also a big fan of Liam's pronunciation/intonation on C&A - especially of "Sunsheeeeiiinnne" Iconic. Favourite song: Supersonic ๐ Honourable Mention: Live Forever (perhaps THE anthem of the 90s) โพ๏ธ Cigarettes & Alcohol๐ฌ๐บ Slide Away ๐ Rock 'n' Roll Star๐๐ค
Album 3/1001 Big fan of the hindewhu technique (had to look this up) on Watermelon Man - achieved in this case by Bill Summers blowing into a beer bottle - but the baseline on Chameleon is the star of the show. Didn't vibe so much with the other 2 songs on the album. Favourite song: Chameleon ๐ฆ Honourable mention: Watermelon Man ๐
Album 4/1001 Can't say my interest in VM has ever extended beyond Brown Eyed Girl but there were a few songs on here I did enjoy. Found it a bit shouty and repetitive after a while, and have a strong dislike of the title track, but really enjoyed Crazy Love - perhaps because it's the least shouty? And I know all British artists were trying to sound American during this era so I don't know if it's because he leans into it too much or something, but for me his sound comes across as inauthentic and derivative. Favourite song: Crazy Love๐คช๐ Honourable mention: Brand New Day ๐ Into the Mystic โก๏ธ๐ 2 ยฝ / 5
Album 5/1001 Some of their most interesting work on here including my current favourite song of theirs, Happiness is a Warm Gun, which I'm embarrassed to say I only recently discovered a few months ago. So refreshing to hear a great Beatles track which hasn't been played to death already. โฌ๏ธ Favourite song: Happiness is a Warm Gun ๐ โจ๏ธ๐ซ Honourable mention: While My Guitar Gently Weeps ๐ธ๐ข Helter Skelter (not for the same reasons as Charles Manson) ๐ง Dear Prudence โ๏ธ Long, Long, Longโณ๏ธโณ๏ธโณ๏ธ 4ยฝ / 5
Album 6/1001 Was really pleasantly surprised by this. I mainly just knew Dennis as Charles Manson's best mate (and tbh I think that will still be the case) but he was clearly quite the musician too. Could have seen him going on to have had a very successful solo career if he hadn't sadly lost his battle with addiction only a few years later. Favourite song: Rainbows ๐ Honourable mention: Moonshine ๐ River Song ๐๐ต Pacific Ocean Blues ๐ Time โณ๏ธ
Album 7/1001 Favourite (and only enjoyable) song: Chicago ๐ 1ยฝ / 5
Album 8/1001 The year was 1990: Nelson Mandela was freed from prison, Margaret Thatcher resigned as PM, Goodfellas was gracing the big screen, Twin Peaks the small screen, and Italia 90 was bringing feel good vibes to the nation. And on top of all of this, the golden age of hip hop was about to become even golder with The Tribe's emergence onto the scene with this instant classic of a debut album. The 90s were off to a good start. Now, I'm not old enough to remember any of this stuff happening at the time but still, what a time to be alive! Favourite song: I Left My Wallet in El Segundo ๐ฐ Honourable mention: Can I Kick It? โฝ๏ธ Bonita Applebum ๐ After Hours โฐ๏ธ Luck of Lucien ๐ค
Album 9/1001 This is one of those albums that I respect more than I enjoy. The fact that it was the first album to be entirely made up of samples is an impressive feat and you can hear the influence it's had on all different kinds of music to this day. Unfortunately, one of those kinds is low-fi which I'm not so grateful to it for, and has actually tarnished it for me since I last heard it. Still, can't deny it's importance and it's one of the few purely instrumental records that I would choose to listen to - more for the hip-hop and cinematic vibes than the electronic ones. Favourite song: Building Steam with a Grain of Salt โจ๏ธ๐ง Honourable mention: Organ Donor ๐ซ Mutual Slump๐๐ Midnight in a Perfect World ๐ What Does Your Soul Look Like, Pt.1 - Blue Sky Revisit ๐
Album 10/1001 Not one of my favourite of Miles but apparently a hugely important and influential record which marked the beginning of jazz fusion. Much prefer the second track to the first. Favourite song: In A Silent Way ๐คซ
Album 11/1001 A bit too classical country for my tastes but enjoyed listening to some female vocals again at last - each of the three women has a beautiful, distinctive voice, yet they blend together perfectly. Favourite song: Telling Me Lies ๐พ Honourable mention: To Know Him Is to Love Him ๐ป ...Those Memories of You ๐ฟ 2ยฝ / 5
Album 12/1001 Perhaps the most atmospheric album ever made. Absolute perfection. ๐๐๐๐๐ Favourite song: Pictures of You ๐ธ๐ง Honourable mention: every other track ๐
Album 13/1001 Saying I'd prefer this album without the concept part probably takes away what is supposed to be so groundbreaking about it, and means I didn't "get" it - but, it would be so much better without all the amateur dramatics like the irritating voice acting and sound effects that, for me, only serve to detract from some genuinely great songs and Gilmour's incredible guitar work. Favourite song: Comfortably Numb (one of the greatest ever songs) ๐ Honourable mention: Hey You ๐ Another Brick in the Wall ๐งฑ Young Lust โค๏ธโ๐ฅ Mother ๐ฉโ๐ผ
Album 14/1001 Listening to this superb album on a cloudy London afternoon has me Americana dreamin' - not of the America of today though sadly... The Weight is one of the greatest songs ever...like, top 10 great. The fact that RR was influenced by Buรฑuel in the writing of it only adds to it's allure... "Buรฑuel did so many films on the impossibility of sainthood. People trying to be good in โViridianaโ and โNazarinโ, people trying to do their thing. In โThe Weightโ itโs the same thing. People like Buรฑuel would make films that had these religious connotations to them but it wasnโt necessarily a religious meaning. In Buรฑuel there were these people trying to be good and itโs impossible to be good. In โThe Weightโ it was this very simple thing. Someone says, โListen, would you do me this favour? When you get there will you say โhelloโ to somebody or will you give somebody this or will you pick up one of these for me? Oh? Youโre going to Nazareth, thatโs where the Martin guitar factory is. Do me a favour when youโre there.โ This is what itโs all about. So the guy goes and one thing leads to another and itโs like โHoly Shit, whatโs this turned into? Iโve only come here to say โhelloโ for somebody and Iโve got myself in this incredible predicament.โ It was very Buรฑuelish to me at the time. ~ Robbie Robertson Favourite lyrics: THE WEIGHT "I pulled into Nazareth Was feelinโ about half past dead I just need some place where I can lay my head โHey, Mister can you tell me where a man might find a bed?โ He just grinned and shook my hand And โnoโ was all he said." "I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide" CHEST FEVER ""She's stoned" said the Swede, and the moon calf agreed" Favourite song: The Weight ๐โโ๏ธ Honourable mention: Tears of Rage ๐ง๐ก This Wheel's on Fire โ๏ธ๐ฅ Chest Fever๐ฉบ๐ก Long Black Veil ๐ฐ ๐คโฐ๏ธ I Shall Be Released ๐
Album 15/1001 This is Bruce at a time where he was struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts...and you don't need to be a doctor to recognise that when you listen to this album. These songs are all beautifully writen, bleak stories about the struggles of life. Don't know about you, but sometimes I just want to wallow...and for me, there's no better companion in those times than The Boss, armed with just his guitar, his harmonica and his sad weary voice. Favourite lyrics: ATLANTIC CITY "Gonna be a rumble out on the promenade And the gambling commission's hanging on by the skin of its teeth" "Well, I got a job and tried to put my money away But I got debts that no honest man can pay" "Now I've been looking for a job, but it's hard to find Down here, it's just winners and losers And don't get caught on the wrong side of that line Well, I'm tired of coming out on the losing end So, honey, last night I met this guy And I'm gonna do a little favour for him Well, I guess everything dies, baby, that's a fact But maybe everything that dies someday comes back So fix your hair up nice and set up pretty And meet me tonight in Atlantic City" OPEN ALL NIGHT "Radio's jammed up with Gospel stations Lost souls callin' long distance salvation Hey Mr. DJ, won't you hear my last prayer? Hey ho, rock 'n' roll, deliver me from nowhere" REASON TO BELIEVE "Struck me kinda funny Funny yeah indeed How at the end of every hard earned day People find some reason to believe" Favourite song: Atlantic City ๐๐ Honourable mention: Nebraska ๐ซ๐ซ Mansion on the Hill ๐ ๐ Highway Patrolman ๐ฃ ๐ฎโโ๏ธ Reason to Believe โ๏ธ
Album 16/1001 Reminded me of early Black Eyed Peas (pre Fergie). A bit corny, yes, but the flow and production are really on point. Favourite song: What's Golden ๐ชโ๏ธ Honourable mention: Thin Line ๐ A Day At The Races ๐ High Fidelity ๐ฟ Remember His Name ๐
Album 17/1001 Decided to listen while washing the dishes, and it somehow managed to make that task even less enjoyable than normal. ๐
Album 18/1001 Daft, yes. Punk? No. Favourite song: Da Funk ๐บ Honourable mention; Rock'n Roll ๐ธ Rollin' & Scratchin" ๐๐ฝ Alive ๐
Album 19/1001 This well and truly funked me the funk up! Ya dig? ๐ธ
Album 20/1001 This might be my old age speaking, but that was more relaxing than drifting off with a cat kneading softly on your lap, purring in time with the crackle of a warm open fire, petrichor drifting through the window, while the patter of rain and the growls of thunder fill the room with tranquil warmth. Utterly delightful. ๐ 3 ยฝ / 5

Album 23/1001 "The ammunition's being passed, and the lord's been praised But the wars on the televisions will never be explained All the bankers gettin sweaty, beneath their white collars As the pound in our pocket turns into a dollar This is the 51st state of the USA" Doesn't get more Thatcher-era 1980s Britain than this, and yet, listening to Heartland in 2025, you get the impression that not a lot has changed in the last 40yrs. ๐
Album 24/1001 You know a band must be taking themselves too seriously when they think producing a rock opera about a deaf, dumb and blind kid is a good idea. ๐คฆ 1 ยฝ / 5
Album 25/1001 Nicely soundtracked a very autumnal October day. ๐ ๐ ๐
Album 26/1001 This album is the dog's bollocks, the bee's knees, the mutt's nuts. Proper London through and through. Favourite lyrics: DOWN IN THE TUBE STATION AT MIDNIGHT "Whispers in the shadows Gruff blazing voices Hating, waiting "Hey boy" they shout "Have you got any money?" And I said "I've a little money and a take away curry I'm on my way home to my wife" "They smelt of pubs And Wormwood Scrubs And too many right wing meetings My life swam around me It took a look and drowned me in its own existence The smell of brown leather It blended in with the weather It filled my eyes, ears, nose and mouth It blocked all my senses Couldn't see, hear, speak any longer" BILLY HUNT "Billy Hunt is a magical world Full of strippers and long-legged girls Clark Kent's got nothing on me I'll spy like James Bond and die like King Kong" Favourite song: Down in the Tube Station at Midnight ๐ ๐ Honourable mention: English Rose ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐น 'A' Bomb in Wardour Street ๐ ฐ๏ธ๐ฃ In the Crowd ๐ค๐ฅ Billy Hunt ๐คช๐ (Cockney rhyming slang for 'silly c___')
Album 27/1001 Eddie's insane guitar skills add depth and artistry to what could otherwise be considered just a collection of fun but superficial hard rock songs. Also, these guys were clearly ahead of their time, as the fact that this album was NOT produced in the 80s is genuinely shocking. Favourite song: Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love ๐ฃ๐๐ซ Honourable mention: Eruption๐ Runnin' with the Devil ๐โโ๏ธ๐
Album 28 /1001 Apart from Outside Myself and the Johnny Marr esque guitar twang on Constant Craving, this really didn't do it for me. Sorry k.d. ๐คทโโ๏ธ Though, you have inspired me to change my name. From this moment forth I shall be known as ed.d coppin (all lower case). Cheers, folks. ๐
Album 29/1001 Never heard any 70s stuff from the Beach Boys before. While not hitting the heights of Dennis' solo work later in the decade, this still has some interesting stuff on here. Album 30/1001 Led Zeppelin at the absolute peak of their powers, demonstrating here that they were masters of pretty much all forms of rock: hard, blues, mythic, folk, celtic, progressive, epic.
