This is not my preferred genre, but I definitely get why it’s considered a great album in the genre. Them Bones and Rooster stand out as the best songs. Impressive vocals - a bit abrasive for my taste but his voice is a great fit for this music. Lots of pain in his voice. The band is clearly talented; in particular, the drummer.
Radio Free Europe is cool; nice bass line.
Pilgrimage has a Charlie Brown ass piano lick that I like.
Also like Sitting Still.
Hard to believe this came out in 1983 - sounds like 90s alternative. I liked it.
This album has 2 undeniable classics on it. This was definitely solid gold for the average sock hop enjoyer. Not big into all the harmonies. Quality album. 4 stars.
Immediately hooked by the first song. What the heck is this?!
This album is actually super sick. Super dark and creepy with that organ. Lenny was really going through it when he wrote this. Sounds like he’s already dead. 4 stars because I want to be conservative with giving out 5.
I enjoyed the title track. That’s about it. It’s fine but honky tone really ain’t my thing.
When the music kicked in on Only Love Can Break Your Heart, I turned the volume way up.
Never heard of the album or band before, but it’s really good.
Carnt Sleep and Nothing Can Stop Us were my other favorite tracks. I think some Jay Z might sample the piano in Carnt Sleep.
I’m a fan.
2 songs in right now. One of the worst, most abrasive things I’ve ever listened to. I can’t believe there’s 40 more minutes of this. Who funded this?
I’d rather watch the Charlie Kirk video than listen to this again. 1 star.
Music isn’t bad but it’s not really for me. Album is waaaayyyy too long.
This is really cool out of the gate. Somewhere between Louis Armstrong and Harry Belafonte. Basin Street Blues is a New Orleans classic. Buona Sera is a classic. This album rules. It’s a Coleman-ass album. 5 stars.
I forgot to take notes while listening and I don’t remember anything about it. I know I didn’t like it.
Excellent album. Bonus points for keeping it under 40 minutes. When I think of The Doors, LA Woman is the song and album that comes to mind but I might actually like this better. Less creepy and psychedelic but that’s cool. Roadhouse Blues is a good reminder that they can do it all.
I really love that Adrian Quesada album, Echo Hotel. I think this album is a clear influence for that project.
5 stars.
The music is easy on the ear. A lot of love songs - I guess he’s in love with the red headed stranger. I really liked the piano on the last song. Not my cup of tea but I get why people like his music. 3 stars.
Not a huge AC DC guy. It’s kinda loud and abrasive. That being said, I can’t knock their musical chops and the uniqueness of the vocals. There are a few popular anthems on this album that stand out, primarily due to the guitar and bass riffs imo. Back in Black and You Shook Me All Night Long, in particular. The part of the album between Hells Bells and Back in Black kinda just sounds the same. Then the album gets good with some really great guitar riffs. If you need to run through a brick wall, queuing up this album might help. Ending on Rock and Roll is Noise Pollution is incredibly hard - bonus points.
Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, but closer to 4.
The Mamas & The Papas are kind like the gay beach boys. That’s what I kept thinking. This is like that beach boys album but gay. It’s fine, easy to listen to. But it’s not very fun.
Cowbell on first song made me laugh.
Happy Alone is a cool song.
I feel like this came out at the same time as that Jet album, and Jet completely stole their shine.
What the actual fuck is that? I feel like we’re getting punked on this one. I don’t think you can call this music. It’s a bunch of sounds that do t fit together, made by instruments that have never been tuned.
AWFUL. 1 star because they won’t allow 0.
It’s fine but it’s boring. I think I like 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds the best. There’s a few songs on here that make you say “oh yeah I know that song” but you’ll never choose to put them on again.
Some elements of music but mostly noise. Not for me.
I liked it but I didn’t love it. A couple really good songs. What’s Golden stands out. I like boom bap and hip hop groups, but Jurassic 5 doesn’t have a standout MC. I think that’s why I’m not a huge fan. But I’m glad I listened and I did enjoy most of it. 3 stars.
Woman. Walkman. Coffee shop. Seattle. Doesn’t know she’s a lesbian yet.
I liked it. The songs are silly but melodies are great. Drive My Car and The Word were probably my favorites. 14 songs and 35 minutes is pretty sick too. Good album. 4 stars.
One of my favorite albums. Great from the opening bass line on Jenny Was a Friend of Mine. Mr Brightside is the rock anthem of the century. I love every single song on this album. Favorites are All These Things That I’ve Done (a perfect rock song), Change Your Mind, and Jenny…
It’s cool that all the songs sound so different but the album still feels like one piece of work. The various parts of the songs and the way they transition through those parts is really amazing. Great percussion. Brandon Flowers is maybe the best vocalist of the last 20 years. All around greatness. 5 stars.
I really liked this. Cool style of music - jazz/soul/psychedelic. Obviously one heck of a production. Almost sounds like a Quincy jones arrangement. Isaac has such a smooth voice that complements the music perfectly. Songs are longer than I’d like but I can deal.
Not into this electronic synth stuff. That being said, it could be a lot worse. It’s palatable but I’m glad it’s over.
I liked the other AC/DC album a lot more. It had some cool guitar riffs that made it fun. This album felt like the same riff over and over. A formulaic “Kirkland brand” rock album.
Opening song is a perfect rock and roll song. Love the guitar on No Expectations - I think Marcus King has borrowed that for one of his songs. I wasn’t expecting the direction the album went - delta blues and then basically honky tonk. Not my favorite Stones album, but one absolutely perfect song is worth a lot.
Top notch piano/organ and guitar playing in this album. A few timeless classics - Feelin Alright, Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring, Medicated Goo. This was already a favorite album of mine and this isn’t the first time I’ve listened straight through. Big Winwood Guy and Traffic is my favorite Winwood project and this is my favorite Traffic album. Other guys in our group think it’s too out there but I love this shit.
What was going on with us in this era of rap metal? Dark days. A couple songs that are kinda cool. Most of the album sounds the same. It’s better than Limp Bizkit?
Not really sure how to evaluate this album. Very much not my style. Kinda hated it.
Doesn’t really move me one way or another. The background music of depression is how I would describe it. Wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard.
First song was great. The rest was pretty meh.
Pretty good album with a few absolute classics. Thought I would like it more though. A bunch of songs that are fine and not really memorable. Still 4 stars
Sounds fine. Nothing really stands out in the album but also nothing that is abrasive or awful.
Pretty sick live album. Never really listened to much Thin Lizzy beyond Jailbreak and Boys Are Back in Town. They kinda frikken rock. That was fun.
I read the title of the first song and cringed a bit. The Robots? Really?
Bryan Johnson probably patented headphones that play this album to his adult son Talmage’s penis while he sleeps. I’m out.
I was legitimately interested in this one because people love Radiohead and I’ve never really gotten into it. I do not get the hype. Depressing, dull, self-indulgent, overproduced. There, There and Myxomatosis were pretty good songs. Everything else is annoying beep boop nonsense. We don’t need to reinvent what instruments sounds like for the modern age. They already sound good. Be a real artist and invent a new instrument altogether, Thom Yorke. You get 2 stars because the talent and ability is evident. But I don’t get it.
This was actually more enjoyable that I thought when I heard more electronic music in the first track. At least it wasn’t depressing. Still don’t really like it much so it gets a 2.
Cinnamon Girl lol. Sus song title bro. P good though.
Down by the River is a classic with awesome psychedelic guitar playing. I like the Meters cover better but deep appreciation for this song.
Cowgirl in the Sand is sick.
Neil Young is cool because he’s a songwriter who is also a rocker. Most of the songwriters of this era were pop or folk. There are some really folksy song on here I don’t love but some absolute shredders as well.
It’s a classic. She’s so smooth. Nice with your morning coffee.
Client Eastwood and 19-2000 are cool songs. Everything is kinda trash. Man Research made me want to drive off a bridge. It’s like a 2.5. I’ll give it a 3 for having Clint Eastwood on it.
Album art is insane. “It has a bush? What the hell”. Oh wait, that’s just a perfectly normal pair of pants you tie at the crotch. Just an unapologetic piece of Staten Island trash. Good for her!
Anyway, incredible vocal range. Probably amongst the singers with the most range ever? Obviously can hit all the high notes but I kinda like when she goes down a little lower and her voice hums like a fucking corvette engine. I feel like she was often grouped with and compared to Britney Spears which is so dumb and hilarious.
Walk Away is a cool song. Beautiful is played out but a nice song. Dirty is a bop. A couple other solid ones. Probably too much content on the album at 77 minutes. I think it’s a solid 3 stars.
I liked it. Didn’t know where one song ended and the next began. Maybe that’s a good thing. Probably a 3.5 for me but I’m keeping it a 3.
Shreds the trumpet like his son does a half pipe. I really liked this album. Big Apple was really familiar sounding.
Don’t really have much to say. It was just kind of whatever. Didn’t bother me too much but can’t say I liked any of the songs. 2 stars.
A little avant garde at times but not in a way that bothered me too much. Overall this was pretty good and interesting. Obviously some really sick musicians. I considered a 4 but I think it’s a 3.
I love the classic Doors psychedelic sound and this album really captures that. A handful of really awesome songs, especially on the first half of the album. Break on Through, Light My Fire, Twentieth Century Fox are pretty classic songs. Solid 4.
Best opener / closer combo ever? Definitely an argument for that. A little more honky tonk than I would have liked or expected, but it was really good honky tonk. Pretty great from start to finish. Easy 5.
Smooth Operator is a fitting track to open with. Sade is like a hot knife through warm butter. It does sound a bit like one long song. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. 4.5 that I’m rounding to 5. It’s good!
Title track is fucking great. This guy can play the hell out of the organ. From the first note, I knew I was gonna like this. On the Sunny Side of the Street is a jazz classic - a lot of New Orleans musicians I love have done this one. And Jimmy’s version is awesome. This is top tier jazz. It’s not some avant-garde written by a haughty dipshit. Soulful and delicious.
As a wise man once said, “Booker shines”.
Great start to the album, especially the guitar riffs. Tenement Funster was new to me and excellent. Lost me a bit in the middle of the album. Misfire got me back on track. Songs are a bit hit or miss. Somewhere between a 3 and 4. I’ll give it 4 to bring up the group rating.
