1001 Albums Summary

Not my cup of tea. I can imagine very limited scenarios in my life where I would want this music playing. It is cohesive as a project though with innuendo and euphemism applied consistently. The drumming and guitar work are steady and strong with high production quality throughout. Vocal performance also very good.

Moody and emotional style but doesn’t evoke any strong emotion for me. The 4 songs from this album that play on the radio are sufficient and I wouldn’t recommend a start to finish listen.

Should get more consideration as a contender for U2’s best album.

Easy enough to listen to. Not enough standouts to get a 4.

Enduring singles highlight this 50+ years-old album that is playable start to finish.

I enjoy cohesive and themed albums but this is monotonous. Adds appreciation for the hip hop revolution that followed in 93.

Shocked at how enjoyable of a listen this was start to finish. Smooth and soothing with most songs on the short side to keep things flowing well.

Engaging song mix highlighted by classic singles.

Exhibit A why this subgenre of music has faded. Does not hold up today against other classic rock songs and albums from the 70’s despite the guitar exploits and occasional vocal highlights.

Easy listening just not very interesting aside from Motherless Children and I Shot the Sheriff.

Nothing close to the Bowie songs that I enjoy. Shows range I guess.

Not my wheelhouse. Don’t know how to rate the xylophone playing, etc. Easy enough to listen to. Have listened through a few times and will surely play this again.

This was a pleasant surprise. Great mix of enjoyable songs with an all time classic.

Ahead of its time and diverse. Ex. Sold to the Highest Bidder would fit alongside These Old Shoes from 2007 War Elephant album of Deer Tick.

A mix of skilled and unskilled musicians. Judging by the album cover they didn’t want to leave anyone out. Didn’t love the vocals. This type of album encourages others with insufficient talent. Album concept = sing about different cities in California to give the impression that the songs are not all the same. But it’s not a 1.

Too long and lacking standout songs.

Timeless. Lauryn Hill in her rapping prime blended into songs with some of the smoothest melodies in the history of hip hop.

Not a masquerade. This is honky tonk. Play at your next hootenanny. Couple ear worms raise it from a 2 to a 3. “I keep my fingernails long so they click when I play the piana”…

“It’s nothing special” - Blur. Except especially too long. Almost gave it a 2 because Girls and Boys has some precursor/ancestral hints to The Killers Somebody Told Me. But dragged down by too much rubbish as the Brits would say.

Uneventful and unremarkable.

Not my fav Tribe album but solid with classic highlights.

The type of album that I could be into but it just doesn’t hit.

Even with the title track being my DB favourite, I don’t think I would listen to this front to back again.

Decent. Title track was highlight.

Candidate for least liked album on this list. Not even a useful sleep aid.
