For a song called vein melter it was really boring lmao
I dont listen to fusion or jazz that much but it was a nice listen
WE ARE THE PREISTS OF THE TEMPLE OF SYRINX
im a bit of a rush fan. 2112 is a certified self indulgent classic. so much so that you forget there are 5 other songs lol. passage to bangkok is the only one worth remembering in that bunch
but yeah aside from that? love love love 2112 (the song)
I really like it! 70s synths are so fun as an instrument because it really feels like an experimentation with sounds. I thought the pop snippets were unique but catchy, and the instrumentals were super moody and atmospheric. Definitely recommend
Its okay to leave your dog in a hot car (Yeah!)
I do know this album very well (ofc) but there are a lot of songs that are still fantastic. In my Life is still probably the best beatles song or at least top 3. I like how you can start to hear the songwriting and sound branch out from their previous albums
some songs are duds and are pretty lame but then you got norwegian wood and nowhere man so its all ok
i do like how theyre playing around with sound and instrumentation and it gives each track more of its own identity and personality
still think revolver is better
Idk i would really put it on when I'm bored so 3 ig
after judy blue eyes i thought this might be a half-decent listen and then lady of the island happened
it really sucks because some of these songs are tight with great harmonies and hooks but there is a lot of nothing burgers
im just not a fan of acoustic and folk so those songs are really boring to me but the more upbeat ones are fine
yo actually what the fuck this sounds good???
that album cover really scared me that this would be more folk but this is like,,, proto funk or smth
love love the instrumentals. we need more music with orchestra in em
this is emilycore man i did have a little phase in college and im pretty sure if i found this i would have played it into the ground
man what happened to the germans
sorry if im a normie but this is too weird for me. some snippets of good music surrounded by dissonant noise and ear-grating sounds. i don't want to listen to it again
a little lower energy than i'd like
i was scared there would only be albums from the 70s here
its a good listen. i'd listen to it again
so i do like how these songs are all uptempo and high energy. you can tap your toes to these.
good hooks in some of these songs too
but man. they do all kind of sound the same after a while. also the guys voice is a little annoying and im pretty sure the same little guitar riff has been reused across several songs. like, use one other instrument. write one song thats a little diferent. do a key change. like give me something please
all these songs are 2 minutes why does it draggggg
i was going to give this like a 3.5 and then i listened to it again and changed my mind
i really liked it! i think with the strings and orcestration it's easy to fall into a trap of feeling too overproduced but the instruments sound great. The drums bring in a ton of energy to the tracks. the rolling people is def my favorite. ive also never heard bitter sweet symphony before so im wondering how it got 1 billion streams on spotify????
its like oasis but theyre actually play instruments. I think i just like music that has more variety and production to them. also the songs change up on themselves so even when listening ambiently while working, it still catches my attention
I dont like the way she's staring at me on the cover but she's got a good voice. There's a lot of energy in the album that makes it a good listen as compared to say, that Elvis album we did where everything just started to drag. Maybe its because all the songs are covers so she can puck the best ones
I think old people can in fact make decent music!
this album cover scared me ngl but it was a neat listen
i can't articulate it well but a lot of the songs tickled my brain
I dont know how you can listen to this without a huge smile on your face
very interesting! the songs are all very distinct from each other and theyre very evocative of other artists
There were some neat songs on there but I wouldn't really want to listen to it again.
It's way too rough of a sound combined with very repetitive songs.
first 80s album wooo
There's something really nice about just having a good old rocker. It's tight, clean, got good energy, and can really get you grooving.
After a lot of more slow-paced, artsy albums, this was really what I needed. Is it the most deep, complex music? No. The song compositions are a little simpler than I'd like, but I can't deny this is very, very listenable. Can't imagine putting it on and someone having an issue with it.
oo jazz
When it comes to jazz, it's easy to let it devolve a little too freeform and abstract, but this is one that is tight. The songs take you on a journey with how the melody and tempo shift, but it's never too distracting or disjointed. There are easily identifyable musical ideas that thread themselves through each song. On a second listen, they only became more clear to me.
In Track B, I was quite struck by how the trumpet almost sounded like speaking with how roughly it was played; something I had never heard before.
It's just really good music. No complaints at all.
you know when you get a new favorite song and listen to it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over until it sounds like mush
i have to stop myself from listening to taj mahal. what a song. what a time to be alive.
In all seriousness this is a club banger. I got a new obsession so there you go.
im in touch with your world is like,,, one of the worst songs ive ever heard.
not bad. wouldnt put it on again
it sounds like open-mic night at karaoke
it sounds like a middle school band warming up
it sounds like rock bottom, both in title and in content
you could make any number of zingers but none could capture how horrible this is
im starting to think the 1001 albums guy ran out of ideas and just put this in to see who really read the book and actually listened to the albums within
I've been on tenterhooks, ending in dirty looks
Listening to the Muzak, thinking 'bout this 'n' that
She said that's that, I don't wanna chitter-chat
Turn it down a little bit or turn it down flat
Pump it up when you don't really need it
Pump it up until you can feel it
Down in the pleasure center, hell-bent or heaven sent
Listen to the propaganda, listen to the latest slander
There's nothing underhand that she wouldn't understand
Pump it up until you can feel it
Pump it up when you don't really need it
Hey!
She's been a bad girl, she's like a chemical
Though you try to stop it, she's like a narcotic
You wanna torture her, you wanna talk to her
All the things you bought for her, could not get a temperature
Pump it up until you can feel it
Pump it up when you don't really need it
Out in the fashion show, down in the bargain bin
You put your passion out under the pressure pin
Fall into submission, hit-and-run transmission
No use wishing now for any other sin
Pump it up until you can feel it
Pump it up when you don't really need it
Pump it up until you can feel it
Pump it up when you don't really need it
Pump it up until you can feel it
Pump it up when you don't really need it
Don't really need it
Don't really need it
Don't really need it
I was going to open my review with a silly one-liner, but I don't think it would be right.
This listening experience was haunting. The ambient synths and droning combined with the personal voice struck me in a way I did not expect. It's the first time where I stopped having the music play in the background and actually sat up and focused on the composition and lyrics.
I can't identify very strongly with lyrics about god, but I can identify with the thought that the world is cold when it felt like it was once full of wonder. "Horses are just horses and their manes aren't full of fire" is a lyric that really stood out to me in particular.
I don't know if I would put it on again casually, but I'm glad I listened to it before I died
Ok so uh
I know I said I liked Ghosteen a lot but what the hell is this. What if we took all the self-reflection and replaced with a song about Orpheus's skull getting smashed? The blues and rock are too simple in composition so they're nothing worth listening to. There's some snippets of good music (adding a choir to any song will do that) but yuck. Why was this a double album? First one I actually started skipping songs on.
Guys
I think I might like David Bowie
Also I can definitely how influential he is because there will be a sound or a specific lyric and it makes me think of a lot of modern artists I like today. Like, "Oh there's Will Wood. That's Jack Stauber." It's a little more commercial than Low, but the songs were lovely. I especially liked Life On Mars?
Honestly wasn't too crazy given that there's a crazy horse somewhere in there
Our second Brazilian album!
This one was a lot more moody than the other one, much less dance music, but you can tell the strength of the album based on how it could evoke feeling and emotion even without the need to understand the language.
Um Gosto De Sol was a standout for me. The added instrumentation for the tracks kept it from being stale despite the track count.
I will preface this by saying that I'm one of the least qualified people to be talking about rap and hip hop
It's good. Really good. Each song, each lyric, hits like a freight train. This is one where you need to read the lyrics to really get it, but the variety in tracks is great. I don't want to say my favorite is i because it's the most tranditionally song-like, but I can't lie to you.
I don't think I would put it on casually for myself, and my ratings are more for how likely am I to put on a given album in my free time so
Didn't leave a single impression on me
It's hard to review an album that I have definitely listened to many many times since the songs aren't as fresh as they once were.
However, Zeppelin III slaps.
Immigrant Song is one that is very overplayed, but once you're past the intro, it becomes a good rocker. I do love how Zeppelin's lyrics tend to lean on mythology and LOTR-- gives them a unique charm
Friends brings great drama to the album. The strings(?) in the back sound fantastic and give an ominous energy that pairs great with the acoustic. The bouncy rhythm plays with the slower chords.
Celebration Day uses electric slide guitar to great effect. There's this constant up-and-down momentum to the bass and guitar that makes it a groove. I like how Plant's vocals are out of sync with the backing until the chorus where they come together. Drumming is fantastic too.
I'm not the largest fan of Blues music as it tends to be on the simpler and samey side, but Since I've Been Loving You has such mastery and energy in the way that it's played where you sit in anticipation of that solo.
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is just great. I don't know how you even physically play that but for the minimal instrumentation it feels incredibly full. I love how he's just singing about his dog, too.
There's just a lot of strengths on display here. The solos are tasteful, coming in when they need to but never overstaying their welcome. You can hear the blues influence but also how they completely transform that sound into their rock.
This is such a neat one. I think this is the first time we've listened to a Triple(!) album where I've genuinely enjoyed the sound and songs for the full duration.
You got straight bangers. My Sweet Lord, Wah-Wah, Art of Dying, Isn't it a Pity, All Things Must Pass: there are a lot of great songs on here and you can tell that George has improved a lot since his start in the Beatles.
Composition-wide, they're full. Layered choruses, lots of instruments. There's fun flourishes like how Isn't it a Pity uses the chorus from Hey Jude in a minor key.
Lyrically, George has always been on the more simplistic side. But here I think it works because then his words become more impactful. I still think the seamless lyric change in My sweet Lord from Hallelujah to Hare Krishna is genius. Such a simple way to convey everything he wanted to.
I like the ordering of the tracks, how theyre spaced out. Slow songs are followed by fast and vice versa. You get weirdo tracks like Happy Birthday Johnny almost like a palette cleanser.
Just a well made album
I'm just not into country at all. I can't do it
Oh yes I'll take a same instrumentation for every song please
Oh, and no identifiable melodies on the side
The songs are too samey and low energy to listen to. And when they do have one upbeat song, it also sounds bad.
There are some sounds in there that get my attention, but I dont want to hear it again.
not bad. i could listen to it again
It's blues. The most blues blues I've heard in a while.
It just makes you want to dance
I don't listen to salsa on the regular, and if I did I think I would get sick of it, but theres enough genre-fusion going on that each song is very distinct from each other, making it a great listen.
I did think the music sounded like the inside of a Chevys, but thats more of a societal problem
Its like if Tommy wasn't cringe
I must admit I was listening to this while working so while I didn't get the full picture of the story, I can say that there were some good rocking tracks in there. The guitar had this energy to it that I feel like I've been missing for a while. And the tracks had a good variety between them where it never got too boring.
Sometimes Eagles are just birds ig
It's alright. I think there were some decent snippets in there, but ultimately, it's just a little too loud and rough for my ears.
They got great voices that are paired with more simple and minimal backing beats to let them shine.
However, the downside is that the songs start to blend together with their similar sounds, which is unfortunely compunded by the longer length of the album (it's the CD era, so albums are no longer bound by a hard 40 minute length, but still)
Also, I listen with headphones, so the bass and beats started to tire my ears out. Even with all that, I can't say it's a bad album. But it doesn't hook me as much as I'd like it to.
I've always knocked a lot of the albums for being repetitive, not having unique instrumentation, songs being too samey, etc etc
But waow. It works here
This one is interesting. I do like the early 90's style of rap for the sheer energy it has that a lot of other music just doesn't quite hit in the same way.
Although at some point I have to admit the siren-type beat is too much. Solid 3 star album, kind of interesting, kind of rough, might listen to it again.
Sounded good, very dreamy, some hooks, but not enough
I'm gonna be a little mean; cool jazz is one of those genres meant to be background noise. It's just a little too safe, a little too consistent to really grab my attention the way other jazz music can. It's good music, no complaints about listening to it, but it just doesn't excite as much as it could.
some good songs, decent variety, good rock
but ueoughhhhh those drums hurt me ears mate get off the cymbals
Very interesting! I think the use of samples was wonderful and gave the songs great energy. There was good rapport among the group which made the song light and fun, and I enjoyed the callbacks to older tracks along with the more strange lyrics.
Only downside is that it almost got a little too nursery rhyme for me. I think the slower rhythm with the simpler rhymes weren't doing it favors and gave the album a more amateurish vibe.
I love scary moody synths rrrragaghhrgaghhrgaghagagagaggghhhh
It should be really good but like,,,, there are these little things that irk me
why is lemon song in only one ear. why
why does he have to keep making sex screeches (well i know why lmao)
Heartbreaker is fantastic
MODY DICK is so gotdamned goated its not even close
but im with you spencer. his voice is annoying
