1001 Albums Summary

Every time I relisten to Graceland I become more of a mark for Graceland. Every bit of political criticism of the album is correct, but that doesn't ever make it less of a blast to listen through. Can't go ten seconds without making a sound I love.

An album with Jump, Panama, and Hot for Teacher is a good one, but the rest doesn't work nearly as well for me. It's never unpleasant, but it's overproduced and lacks personality.

Send My Love (To Your New Lover) is the only real banger here, When We Were Young is like two ratchets shy of hitting the Elton vibe it's aiming for, but it's never bad

just too many killer songs, this thing is so fun

I'm never going to love Welcome to the Machine or Have a Cigar as much as Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun, Money, One of My Turns, or Hey You. But I love Wish You Were Here more than any other Floyd song. That leaves the other half of the runtime - I love Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I find it less profound a statement of grief than Wish You Were Here, but it's so gorgeous, and the funky movement owns.

I like Middle and Used. Most of this is like if Reel Big Fish took itself too seriously, if Social Distortion was no fun, or if Jeff Rosenstock had no sense of rhythm or melody. As much a pop anthem collection as anything it was meant to course correct. Often reminded me of a less talented version of Adam Schlesinger. Grading on a curve because we are talking about albums proposed as must-listens in the top 1001 sense, but I did find this actively annoying often.

michael's best song is rock with you, and the highs here are still lower than thriller, but this might be his best album front to back? idk. i love sonic the hedgehog

i am not the audience for what keith is doing here. however, automator fucking freaked it.

Kind of caught between two different modes and I generally preferred the higher energy one, but it's all quite good

Never heard Griffith before and this immediately made me a fan - perfect representative of a mode of country I sometimes crave.

Every mean thing I could say about Paul McCartney is true about this album. Occasional moments of nice melody, but too often actually annoying imo.

Indie game music from 2012. The vocals feel like they're only here to make tracks longer - I bet I prefer the 19-minute instrumental version of the album.

Occasionally really vibed with the production on this, but the indie pop + DJ concept never actually quite connected for me beyond a passing interest.

Really only love the upbeat singles here, this is kind of S&G at their most overproduced for me.

It's pretty, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I can't say it fully grabbed me!

Hey Joe, The Wind Cries Mary and Are You Experienced are incredible. I am way more into slow, melodic Jimi than Purple Haze/Fire fuzzbox Jimi.

Still not my favorite Sonic Youth album, but outside of a discography runthrough this rocks. SK should cover Catholic Block.

I really only vibed with To The Moon's Contractor, but I did really vibe with it.

Nice enough but left no impression at all.

Awful in just about every way, IMO. Without quite having the chronology down, this album either sounds like the generic country I don't like or Graham Parsons invents the country I don't like on this album.

The muttering. The awful Werewolves of London ripoff. This is pretty dreadful.

I cannot ever pretend that I care about Albarn, but Song 2, Death of a Party, and Strange News from Another Star are all solid.

At first I thought this was fully a nightmare, but the back to back of Abboan Fat Tracks and Brand New You're Retro hit like a truck.

Pleasant enough. Something went wrong when I added this to a playlist and a bunch of tracks seem to have been doubled, which made it feel like the album was four hours long. May deserve another spin someday.

Simply one of the very greatest, most influential albums ever.

Been listening to this album a lot for the better part of a year with my wife, and Venus As A Boy and Big Time Sensuality hit me hard every single time.

Just went to the concert in February and relistened then, what a killer album end to end man
