I probably need to revisit Bowie's back catalogue - so perhaps this rating would drop on a relisten to his earlier stuff. But I found this much more arresting than the albums people trot out as his best. Arresting and dark, relentless. Thoroughly engaged.
Sometimes edged into noodling in a way I don't love but it deserves the 4 just for how recognisable so much of this album is through later sampling. If this is about influence then it certainly did that.
I hate it less than BSSM. But it definitely goes downhill. The lyrics are inane and although it is more "listenable" it still feels mostly like background music to me.
I don't like jazz so I'm not sure I could judge its merits. John Coltrane shows off his incredible skills as a musician. I found I like psalm best and other parts were more exciting or interesting but it just descends into a mess to my ears that I can't make sense of and hate hearing.

Such a great album. I love the sampling, the beats are so much fun. It's funny and angry and worth visiting again and again.
This was fine. Didn't hate it but also thought it was not particularly interesting. Nothing really caught my attention.
A whole album of Beck does not a good time make. I like individual songs well enough when I hear them but a whole album just turns into a slightly dreary background hum to me.
4 stars for bohemian rhapsody alone but generally a great cohesive album.
I enjoyed this on in the background, particularly love the funky feel and afrobeats. But it would be too repetitive for me to sit and actively listen to I think.
A classic from my teenage years so no surprise I enjoyed it once again. So catchy and clean sounding.

I like certain tracks which are trip hop vibes but the whole album is mid.

An unexpected joy. Really thought I'd just put it on in the background but was absolutely drawn in. Bold, dramatic and timeless. Although Moonchild got a bit free style improv plinky plonk hit things.
There were some catchy songs on this but it didn't particular stand out for any reason.
Turns out I know way more Steely Dan songs than I realised. I guess that means they're classics? But I can't say I'd ever put them on to listen to. It was fine.
How tedious. I don't object to the basic D&B rhythms etc and if it was the first album to really do this I can hear how influential it must have been. But jesus those tracks are so long and repetitive.
I love the sound of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but not the songs of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. With a few exceptions. They sound cool but somehow it never really comes together for me.
I don't think this is the best Ray Charles but I really enjoyed his take on Country and Western. I was less keen on the backing vocals and the strings especially as it went on - it felt quite dated. But I think it still deserves the higher score even if I wouldn't listen again.
I love a Dolly album. She's a master of her storytelling craft. Perhaps not the best album of hers but still rates highly.

I think this ABBA album is pretty hit and miss for me. Although I do think their sound is more complex and mature it also suffers sometimes for being less catchy. That being said, it also has some of the best ABBA songs on it.
A few great songs but mostly not all that interesting imo. Not the best of the Stripes.
Hesitating over whether this is 3 or a 4. For somebody who doesn't like jazz noodling, I'm weirdly fine with prog noodling. I couldn't tell you why. I don't know if this is "fine but probably won't listen again" or "actually I'd put this on again either in the background or for a further listen." If the point of this process is to expand my interests in musical genres, it succeeded in confirming I'm more into prog rock than I thought.
I never know how to rate The Beatles if I'm honest. Lots of variety in the album and musically interesting. And yet they never particularly hold my interest. Torn between 3 and 4.
There are some great sounds in this that show the Chili style that makes them so unique. But I found it a slog mostly.
I think Tribe are so much fun. A great album that I will listen to again. I imagine if I knew more about sampling it would be even better.
I went back and forth on how to rate this one. The second half was definitely challenging. I will admit to skipping Peking O almost entirely. Not something I'll sit and listen to again but genuinely some of this would be amazing ambient music for the horror game I'm running soon. Elements of the first half were interesting and exciting. I look forward to hearing Future Days at some point.
I have gone back and forth between a 2 and a 4 a couple of times. In the end, love the concept but don't like the music. If I'm not going to listen again, it's a 2. But I really think this album had a place on this list.
It feels petty to give this a one. Occasionally there is a catchy guitar refrain and melodic hook that really works. I can see the stadiums chanting appeal of it. But I still don't think Oasis is anything special? The run of Columbia, Supersonic, Bring It On Down was OK. I might genuinely listen to Columbia again.

Possibly didn't give this the fairest listen. I enjoyed it as ethereal dreamy background music. I'd consider it again for something that just drifts along in the background but it didn't particularly engage me or excite me.
