fooled again and luna were the tracks i enjoyed most. first half of the record was not my fave, and many of the songs took turns in directions that made me dislike them at least part of the way through. not an album i hate, but i don’t think i’ll ever listen again.
come out and play is good and some parts of songs here and there i could appreciate. the ending hidden track made with the riff from come out was also fun. if i were a skater boy i would love this album. alas, i am no skater boy.
bored except for the bowie cover
well i got annoyed by the lyrics in some of the early songs but the music itself was pretty boppy, esp paint it black and going home. ngl i didn’t listen to the whole thing cuz of said annoyance. not a bad record necessarily i’m just annoyed lmaoooo.
a good album! the back half is very solid and i really enjoyed my multiple listens. while the orchestral bits were a bit much and a man needs a maid was weird af, there’s a world grew on me on second listen. if i have to pick just two faves which no one is making me do but myself, i gotta say old man and words.
meh except for every mother’s son. i just couldn’t get anything to stick with me.
i enjoyed this one. i favorited about half the songs but my absolute faves were nine million rainy days and fall. i wanted just the teensiest bit more of somethin from the other half of the tracks. very solid tho!
i love this album 😭♥️
this one surprised me? the drama! the class commentary and storytelling! the organ and orchestra! not a perfect 5 for me perhaps because of (some of) the more poppy bits which is weird for me to say as like a pop girly. do i even understand my own taste? not really.
fave tracks: common people, i spy, live bed show, feeling called love, monday morning
i enjoy a joni moment of course but i’ve gotta say this isn’t my favorite of hers. the songwriting is so good but there are just a few too many piano ballads at the end.
fave tracks: all i want, little green, blue, this flight tonight, the last time i saw richard
i don’t think i like these boys much on this album but hoping for the best for some of their other records
a chill time i guess but too like… tidily arranged? i can get behind peg as a fun song for the right place and time
this is good! i hadn’t heard stevie’s voice as a young guy and damn the guy can sing and write excellent songs. very enjoyable and a nicely cohesive set of songs too.
fave tracks: living for the city, golden lady, he’s misstra know it all
just kinda boring the majority of the time? the only track that felt good was mr. jones - the sax and guitar duo was kinda sicc on that one tbh and the end goes hard
meh. some fun stories i guess.
their arrangements and guitar are kinda fun sometimes but i find the lyrics/singer annoying lol
i was having way too many 2010s ccm flashbacks
a vibe :) fave tracks: chunga’s revenge and santa maria
dramatic but like in a musical theater sense instead of something cooler. at times just plain kooky. pleasantly surprised by the kookiness kinda working musically on arrival tho and i quite like the verses on fernando. but then they just get so… abba on the chorus and i don’t like it.
why is it so long? otherwise p inoffensive.
nice
hey this is a pretty good time! the back half is meh but i like male model and here comes the summer.
why is this here?
okay i get the beastie boys hype a little more now. pretty dang good and definitely a memorable ending with that bodhisattva vow chanting lol. i like root down, alright hear this, and do it, though.
the arrangement and production is kinda fun on some tracks, but the lyrics got so cringey i got pretty turned off to the whole thing.
this is freaking good!
love: lullaby, fascination street, plainsong
the middle of this is so stellar. forever all time bops. some of the rest i bounce off of.
this one’s okay, and i tend to like the tracks that haven’t been overplayed a million times more. they do really know how to make melodies that stick in your head, but yeah i’m drawn more to lonely in your nightmare (nice guitar! it’s giving the eurythmics album from the year before), save a prayer, and the chauffeur (which is kinda kooky but i like it idk!).
like kinda fun i guess? i only made it halfway through so that probably says something
congrats to incubus for making some of the cringiest music i’ve ever heard
this rocks!! simultaneously draws really well on 60s influences and somehow sees into the future of the 90s. the acoustic approach overall is great, and the bass in particular is so good. the writing is really interesting (even if horny teenage boy lmao). fave tracks: blister in the sun, please do not go, confessions, to the kill
ass. skipped through most of it
an iconic piece of work. love the hits from this, and also superstar and final hour.
i’m a big fan of just about everything kate bush has made but this one i love just a little less. some of her drama and weirdness feels slightly smoothed out in this album, except for the closing two tracks which i love.
quite the maximalist album. i’ve enjoyed other stuff from janelle but this project feels a bit unfocused. some killer vocals tho.
desperately trying to take off the nostalgia glasses to see this album for what it is. beyond the singles which made the rounds and are cringey and insanely repetitive, there’s still something about these naive, often poorly written heartbreak songs i love, and the production’s nice — there’s some nice layered vocals i enjoy. faves: rumour has it, turning tables, he won’t go, lovesong (i think it’s a slay cover sorry)
nice vibes, and nice lush harms. i like guinnevere quite a bit and pre-road downs too. but nothing too stand-out to me about this album overall.
this is GOOD!! the sampling and production is fire. i like the rapping on this, and especially lauryn hill’s rapping/ singing on this a lot in combo with the production.
too many songs sound the same. but i like the title track.
good stuff. kinda zoned out sometimes but whenever he hit his stride, those passages were pretty fire!
meh. i guess kinda iconic but like why does the drums got to be disco so often when like that's not right with the rest of the instrumentation
i was real iffy on this until i got to some of the tracks near the end, which feature more earnest vocals and fun arrangements. the first 3/4 of this album are too mellow — overly inoffensive. but i still enjoyed.
technically dnf idk wasn’t good
i’m intooo this. i like alright, lose it, strange ones, time to go annnd she’s so loose is one of my fave new (to me) tracks i’ve heard in a while
talkin bout a revolution, mountains o' things, and for my lover are my faves on this. tracy is based af. i wish this was mixed a bit better because there's lots of good instrumentation, but it can be hard to hear. but the songwriting is fantastic.
this eats. if i had hear this like 6-7 years ago it woulda been a 5 for me.
