1001 Albums Summary

Before listening: Let’s go. First album on the site and starting strong. Exactly what I expected from the experience, an album clearly close to my favorite genre, cult classic and I somehow never heard it. No idea what to expect, I hope for more rock and less folk. Post listening: Clearly met my expectations. It sounds more modern and fun than I expected. From the drum intro to the epic finisher album is extremely solid. Consistent in its theme and arrangements, I see how and why it made this band as big as it is. That being said thematically it’s also as far from my cup of tea as it can be. I can appreciate it from the side but I probably won’t be given it many listens in the future. Favorites: I ain’t the one, Tuesday‘s gone, Free Bird Least favorite: Mississippi kid

Before listening: Here we are, possibly the least familiar genre for me. I don’t think I ever heard a song by Willie Nelson. But I love story telling in music so I’m looking forward. Post listening: I guess it’s good. Someone might like it very much. But I feel absolute nothing about this album. I like when albums/songs tell stories but this story did nothing for me. And delivery missed me. I didn’t hate it and I respect it for what it is. But I can’t event be bothered to relisten and pick highlights.

Before listening: The first album on this site when both album and artist are new for me. Exciting. Combination of cover and the name is funny. I guess I expect some funky electronica that will be more on accessible side from some edgier contemporaries. Post listening: It was genuinely fun. The best I can say about this album is that it, like nothing else, fills me with nostalgia for the simple times. Wanted to dance the whole time. But everything exists in a context. And in the context of all the electronic acts of the time and albums released 95-01 this is probably the most forgettable. Come on, Discovery was released in 01, the chemical brothers were all over the place, the prodigy, fat boy slim. Honestly I’m not surprised in the slightest that I never heard about this album. Do I regret time spent? Not at all. Will I listen to it in the future? Probably not. Favorite tracks: Music makes you lose control, soft machine Least favorite tracks: MDC, about funk

Note before listening: Wow. Looks like I haven’t heard this one in a while. I was into PF and The Wall specifically a lot as a teenager and it always was clear 5/5 for me. I’m a big fan of a concept albums. Which is probably because of this one. One thing is that gradual disappointment with Waters over the years might affect the way I feel about this album. After listening: Not sure if I was in the correct mood for it. This time around it feels longer and more boring than I remember. Dynamics and theatrical delivery were always a highlight for me, now it feels like there is not enough of them with longer periods of dragging songs. I don’t think all the short filler songs add anything of value here. For it to be a solid album a lot is too spelled out and on the nose. Not saying that it’s bad. It’s still good, just not as perfect as I remember it to be. Favorite tracks: comfortably numb, hey you, nobody home, run like hell Least favorite track: anything below 2 minutes in length

Pre listening: Love mbv. Not sure if I’m in the mood for it today though. But challenge is a challenge.

Pre listening: The first album generator gives me that I don't only know well but also own physical copy of. But do I love it, I don't know. Unlike many reviewers here I didn't grow up with it. Back in 2004 I was listening to punk and following years were years of nu-metal. I got familiar with their music some 10 years later and my first album was Reflector. But I appreciate Funeral for what it is. Plus I have stupid connection with the second track as am Alexander, older brother and come from the same place as original Laika.
