Moon Safari by Air
Apr 07 2026

This is great end to end, every track is essential, each so melodic and innovative enough to be interesting. I need to listen to this way more often. Great production and sound quality as well.

The Doors by The Doors
Apr 08 2026

I'm surprised at how much I liked this and realize that I need to listen to The Doors more often. Sure enough there are some deep tracks on the 2nd half that I'm totally unfamiliar with and almost all are a pleasant surprise. And of course there are a few completely essential tracks on here. Very good audio quality.

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Apr 09 2026

I'm fucking pissed that I took this album for granted when it came out and that I haven't had this in rotation more for the past 30 years. I'm also pissed that there's no talent anywhere near to this anymore. The deep tracks kill - The Day The Niggaz Took Over will play constantly from now on...there's funk flute in Lil' Ghetto Boy. 6 stars.

War by U2
Apr 10 2026

Outside of the 2 well known singles, haven't really been missing anything else on here. Exceptions being '40' and maaaaybe 2 Hearts.

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Apr 13 2026

First album I am unfamiliar with! Obvs I can't judge this genre but am thankful for being sent this album and feeling blessed to experience it. Am very happy to add this to my rotation, it sounds great and makes me happy.

Apr 14 2026

Once again listening to a v familiar album all the way thru for the first time in a while - every track is a 5 out of 5.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Apr 15 2026

I should like Sonic Youth and this album more than I do, but...I just don't. The heavy distorted guitar and driving drums are pretty great but I'm not compelled to seek this out.

Document by R.E.M.
Apr 16 2026

Shoutout to the saxophone on Fireplace

Mask by Bauhaus
Apr 17 2026

There are some Bauhaus songs that I absolutely love but many on here are for a very specific mood. The production quality is not great on the version I listened to.

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Apr 20 2026

Liked this way better on a 2nd listen - I knew none of these tracks other than Once in a Lifetime, they're all pretty spectacular.

Harvest by Neil Young
Apr 21 2026

This didn't live up to how I had it built up in my mind - I'm sure it's great but there's a number of tracks that I don't connect with.

Leftism by Leftfield
Apr 22 2026

I like this it reminds me of the kind of house music that Joanie turned me onto around the millennium.

Truth And Soul by Fishbone
Apr 23 2026

Totally unexpected sounds on this album - I thought the Freddy's Dead cover was totally bonkers on first listen but I've fallen in love with it. Lot of tonal & musical variety on this. Need to listen to this a lot more.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Apr 27 2026

No surprise but pretty great all the way through - another one I need to listen to more.

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Apr 28 2026

Beautiful album, definite Wes Anderson aesthetic, needs the right mood.

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Apr 29 2026

Even though nothing here really catches my ear, it's an enjoyable listen throughout

Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Apr 30 2026

Nary a weak track on this LP - there's a few I was not at all familiar with and those are all a good as if not better than the greatest hits.

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
May 01 2026

This is an interesting one to be introduced to - I certainly know her name but have never really dialed in on her work. The Coen bros movie collaborations make sense. This is certainly a beautiful album and one that I'll listen to when in the mood - the production and sound quality is great. Her middle name is Howard.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
May 04 2026

All timer maybe the Sone's best - Can't You Hear Me Knocking & Dead Flowers on the same LP is god tier. 12 stars out of 5.

May 05 2026

I know this is absolutely essential to the oeuvre of Dylan and the genre of folk...not so much to my taste tho. There are some unfamiliar deep tracks here that are beautiful, intriguing, and touching and then some that are forgettable.

Yank Crime by Drive Like Jehu
May 06 2026

Never heard of this band or album, so let's check it out... WTF, where has this been?!? Instrumentation is awesome, production quality v good, there are some great tracks (I'm only half way thru). Definitely want to listen to more.

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington
May 08 2026

Big band sound's not my cup of tea, and this Complete version is a little too complete, but there are some tracks I love (Diminuendo in Blue)! Great recording, sound quality is tops.

The Cars by The Cars
May 11 2026

Not a miss on this album. Most of the tracks are known hits...I'm in Touch with Your World is brand new to me but a great, complex trip of a track.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
May 12 2026

Only way this wouldn't be 5 stars is if I had to rank it alongside other Dan albums. Shoutout to Midnite Cruiser

Faith by George Michael
May 13 2026

Hard Day is a banger and a great showcase for the hi-fi system's bass dynamics. Actually, a lot of tracks here are. Also, there appears not to be a bad track on this - so far they're all musically engaging. Also, also, George Michael apparently is a very good singer.

The Last Of The True Believers by Nanci Griffith
May 14 2026

Beautiful singer and lovely album. I've never heard of her but I am glad to have discovered her. Sad to hear that she has already passed, she seemed like a real one.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
May 15 2026

Sure, I'll listen to this if I have to...better than expected, more jazz oriented, will listen more f'sure.

Bossanova by Pixies
May 18 2026

There's a lot of action here - 14 tracks in 39 minutes! Not sure I was familiar with any of these but there are some great tracks here - sound is what I'd expect based on what I've listened to from them. Lot of driving distorted guitar, but also some dreamy, melodic rock (Havalina).

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
May 19 2026

Stone cold classic sure. The hits are familiar 60s R&B but I'm surprised by the number of acoustic guitar-forward tracks on here - that's a sound I didn't expect but certainly dig.

It's Too Late to Stop Now by Van Morrison
May 20 2026

Another one I can't believe I hadn't discovered sooner. Great all the way through. Great production and sound. Will def be in my rotation.

May 21 2026

The well known hits hold up very well, I was surprised by how good the deep tracks are.

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
May 22 2026

Starting to really love this upon multiple listens - way for accessible than I expected and some great tracks I can't wait to revisit (who are you, jesus gonna be here).

Be by Common
May 25 2026

Definitely need to add this to the rotation and listen more, great album

The White Album by Beatles
May 26 2026

I wanted to hate on this as over rated but failed - too many good tracks even tho it's too long. Some ridic bullshit (revolution no9) for sure, but also some hidden greats - see Yer Blues.

May 27 2026

This is an all time classic and great example of the genre - will be my go to when I'm in the mood

Lazer Guided Melodies by Spiritualized
May 28 2026

Halfway in, really digging this...great bass on take your time...symphony space is just atmosphere.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Jun 01 2026

I'm crazy into this for someone who is not much of a big band jazz sound. I guess that's because this is representative of the shift towards bebop??

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Jun 02 2026

Funny album because no one track stands out but they are all, across the board so imminently listenable.

There's A Riot Goin' On by Sly & The Family Stone
Jun 03 2026

Not a lot of memorable tracks outside of Family Affair (except for Spaced Cowboy - I can see that one getting in my head), but they're all solid funk tracks.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Jun 04 2026

This is all new to me - I really don't know much NY beyond Harvest. It's solid as far as my enjoyment of NY goes, but I still don't connect with his music all that much. Southern Man breaks up the sound with guitar solos. The last track is interesting.

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Jun 05 2026

Some fun shit on here, also a lot of ridiculousness. Pretty sure Child in Time is the inspiration for Dennis Reynolds Day Man performance. There's a lot of fun to be had here. I'll play this at parties even though everyone will look at me funny.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Jun 08 2026

10 out of 10 just for Sing a Simple Song, but everything rocks on this

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Jun 10 2026

Another band I've never heard of...very folk oriented, but with a lot of good melodic instrumentation woven in. Apparently A Sailor's Life represents the 1st time rock instrumentation was introduced to folk music?? An interesting song that nicely rocks out towards the end. There's also a song called Cajun Woman.

Jun 11 2026

My first listen was casual, on the kitchen Sonos, and I was meh, thought it to be like CSN-lite, but one song did catch my ear (not even positive which one...prob Tamaplais High), and that inspired me to listen on the hi-fi - much more to this album! Note to self to put this on one late night for the indica.

Black Monk Time by The Monks
Jun 12 2026

This is some proper sicko shit - being introduced has made this whole 1000 album exercise more worth it.

Jun 15 2026

This is the first album I couldn't get through - I think MM is a good maybe even great MC but just not for me - his range is so narrow and I'm not in it.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Jun 16 2026

This is great, glad I finally got around to listening to this album that was recently released - I'm sorry, what's that? It's been out, did you say 2 years? TEN YEARS?!? Oh fuck, ok...

Screamadelica by Primal Scream
Jun 17 2026

I like this very much - fav track is LOADED.

Jun 18 2026

Pleasant album but beyond their hit not much to be memorable, certainly not essential. Some of the other songs *almost* stood out - maybe The Blue Sky. Also, add another star if you really like 80s synth.

Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen
Jun 19 2026

A lot of never experienced tracks on here, enjoyable but somewhat indistinguishable on initial listen. Will have to give this one some more spins (but I gotta catchup on 5 missed albums!), Listen to Candy's Room if you like hypnotic hi-hat intros!

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Jun 22 2026

Alright I shouldn't be caught off guard by something as culturally critical as this but it's stunning and perfect even though this is not my wheelhouse. The quality of the recording is very good. Things are looking up.

Jun 23 2026

Ashamed to admit that I was scared by the album title, before realizing what a terrible blind spot I have for some really essential music and realizing this is a collection of deeply ingrained stone cold classics. I designate this album Mst Likely to Make Me Actually Feel Patriotic.

Hot Shots II by The Beta Band
Jun 24 2026

Another brand new to me. This is an odd one to me because I recognize that the music is complex and good and the recording well produced...but I'm having a hard time connecting to it. It's like there's some subtle tonality that grates on me. Fascinating, but not for me.

Jun 25 2026

Outside of the awesome but short Easy Rider track really not much at all of interest here...the other song written by Carole King, Goin Back is the only other one I dug. I was surprised by the opening horns on the 1st track I gotta say.

Os Mutantes by Os Mutantes
Jul 09 2026

circa 1967 Brazil - This is some Russ Meyer movie soundtrack ridiculousness - there's one full song and like 4 half songs I'd listen to on the regular.

Pornography by The Cure
Jul 10 2026

I was never really explicitly aware of The Cure's pivot from gothic to a more new-wave style...apparently this marks that pivot point, so v interesting from a music history standpoint. I was excited to get a Cure album, but it didn't grab me at first. On second pass I'm digging that gothic nature, this will be on rotation come October.

1984 by Van Halen
Jul 13 2026

Album #61 - this may be the first where I *fully* and intimately know it start to finish (only other one that came close was Sticky Fingers, but I didn't grow up listening to that)...actually, there are some deep tracks on the back of side B, but everything rocks perfectly

Jul 14 2026

Only 7 tracks and 35 minutes, not a trace of a miss here. Definitely going to be in constant rotation from here on to the end of time. This has the original Hard Times...I did not know that was a Curtis original so thanks for teaching me that, Album Generator.

Arrival by ABBA
Jul 15 2026

So this is an interesting dive into the true ABBA beyond what I've superficially thought of them as a disco band...they're just as theatrical in their aesthetic as Supertramp (again, a superficial understanding). the title track is an organ and chorus instrumental - I found it hard to dance to. I'd rate it 3 stars but it gets a 4th b/c of Dancing Queen.

Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Jul 16 2026

How did I pass this one over for Mama Said?? This is great start to end.

Trafalgar by Bee Gees
Jul 17 2026

Alrite, another legendary band I know only by their greatest hits...do the Bee Gee's deep tracks hold up as well as the chart toppers? Let's find out... OK - some solid, some drag...actually side B drags a lot.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Jul 21 2026

No brainer all time great. Songbird I hadn't really noticed before - beautiful!

Dirty by Sonic Youth
Jul 22 2026

Tho a lot still delves into noise rock, way more listenable then I had anticipated from a SY album...some favorites: Sugar Kane (Clay Pigeon played it on Wake n/ Bake this morning) and Youth Against Facism.

Sweet Baby James by James Taylor
Jul 23 2026

Whoa, 11 songs - 31 minutes, that's pretty tight. Very folksy so far. The song Sunny Skies from the Brady Bunch movie is on here. Oh! Then right into hardcore blues with Steamroller. Country Road is great. The last track, Suite for 20 G is also an acoustic beauty.

Peter Gabriel by Peter Gabriel
Jul 24 2026

That song from every romantic comedy movie trailer is on this one, and it's a great song, The rest not so much.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Jul 27 2026

As many times as I've gotten baked and listened to Staralfur over the last 20 years when was the last time I listened to the whole album?? Beautiful! Is this the first album I've been able to listen to from my library? Olsen Olsen, also a favorite.
