Love parts of the album, can’t handle the screaming
Great songs but too long. Let’s be real
Classic. Favorite Neil album. No notes.
Stupid Girl brings the album down. One of their worst songs, and it somehow comes after Paint it Black on the album. Overall, quality varies with an end song that sounds too much Gloria, but it’s still a solid Stones album
Wow. Had never heard this album in full before. So good. Country classic.
Not my thing. I like some of Metallica’s later stuff. This is a little too angry for me
Some fun stuff on here, some nostalgia here. But overall, not my thing. Just a bunch of noise sometimes
Solid. I’ve always enjoyed The Mamas and The Papas, but some of this album just didn’t do it for me. Obviously California Dreamin is a classic. Monday Monday is okay. Most of the covers are fine but not great, except In Crowd
So so good. Particularly the title track (duh), Jealous Guy, How do you sleep, Oh Yoko. Probably my second favorite Lennon album to Plastic Ono Band
I had never heard of this band or album before so I went in intentionally not knowing anything about it. Initial listen, I’m not a huge fan. I looked at the wiki for the album and realized this was compared to The Smiths and Bowie, but I didn’t like it nearly as much as those other artists. Oh well. I did listen a second time and enjoyed it better on second listen. But still not quite my thing
Really really good. I’m not giving it a 5 purely because, I don’t know, it’s not The Point? Which I think is flawless. This has a couple more bleh songs, including an unnecessary cover of Let the Good Times Roll. But Gotta Get Up, Without You, Jump into the Fire, Coconut, and Down are phenomenal
Just really not my thing. Like, I can listen to it and recognize that there’s strong musicianship and that it’s very good for its genre. But man it’s unlistenable to me
I’m not the target audience for hip-hop, but this is an exciting listen and a good ‘80’s rap album. I enjoyed it but wouldn’t necessarily return to it.
Solid. Short, sweet, but wouldn’t listen again.
Man, I was very impressed by the first track. And Photograph is an all-time great song. But after those first two tracks, I just felt like I was listening to the same song over and over. And those songs weren’t all that interesting. I came in knowing (and loving) Photograph and knowing Rock of Ages. But was pretty unimpressed with everything else except Rock Rock Rock. To be fair, I’m not a big Def Leppard fan to begin with
Wow. Never been a huge jazz guy, but the sound here was so tight and good. Perfect background music. I mean that as a compliment.
Solid. And sounds really way ahead of its time. Some great guitar licks. You can really hear all of the indie bands Elliott Smith has influenced when listening.
Wow. Both great, classic Motown sounds (first track)), as well as some haunting, emotional tracks (Lilac Wine and Four Women are top notch). And Nina’s voice is so cool.
Alright. Listened to it twice, really liked it a lot better the second listen. Obviously already knew In the Street. But man The Ballad of El Goodo and Thirteen are sooooo good. Don’t Lie to Me is very solo Paul McCartney sounding. Really good listen.
Some of this was very enjoyable and some of it was not my cup of tea. A lot of it reminded me of my least favorite Joe Jackson songs.
I thought this was a veryyy interesting album. Some really cool songs. Some parts that dragged. As a Zevon fan, I dug the Werewolves of London sampling. The Waltz is a great finish. Might revisit soon
The singles and hits on here are INCREDIBLE. The album tracks, particularly the covers, are good but pale greatly in comparison. That’s what brings this down from a 5 star to a 4. But still excellent
A three-star album with some five-star tracks (Chicago, Jacksonville). Long, drawn out, boring at times but very creative. Also nostalgic for this millennial here
I actually mostly enjoyed this. Cool production quality. Fun hooks. Catchy hip-hop. Not in my wheelhouse, but it was a fun listen.
I love David Bowie and Talking Heads. So I was hoping to enjoy this, but I just couldn’t get into it. Glad I tried
Has been my favorite Stones album for a while now. Just love the sound. Tumbling Dice, Rocks Off, Loving Cup, Ventilator Blues. So good. Sweet Black Angel is well-meaning, doesn’t hold up necessarily. But this is just a classic
Not my thing at all. Sorry.
I wanted to like this more than I actually did. I had always been familiar with the influence of FBB but had never really listened. I love a lot of the artists they influenced, and I love The Byrds. But I felt something lacking here. Especially side 1. Things picked up for me with side 2. Glad I listened!
This was fun! First three tracks were great and then I kinda became less interested after. But I enjoyed my experience overall
Classic. Every track is a banger. Would be a 6 star album if Silver Springs was actually on it like everyone thinks it is.
It’s behind Dark Side and Wish You Were Here for me. And hell, I’m a Final Cut fan. But The Wall is so good.
I like Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground a lot, but it’s not always what I’m in the mood for. This is such a strong album, my first time listening to it all the way through. Love the production by Bowie.
I usually give albums I’m relatively unfamiliar with a couple of listens to get a true feel for the album. Didn’t need to listen twice to this one. Not my thing
Definitely appreciate it for what it is, but this wasn’t my thing. Good background music but not something I’ll intentionally return to.
My favorite Supertramp album and one of my factories of all time. Perfect. Asylum has always freaked me out in a good way. School and the title track are perfect bookends. Rudy, Bloody Well Right, If Everyone, and Dreamer are great, but the real winner, and possibly best Supertramp song, is Hide in Your Shell.
Solid. I listened to the UK version, so I didn’t know most of the tracks prior. Definitely can see some glimpses of future classic Clash sounds (Remote Control, White Riot, Police and Thieves). But a lot of this just blended together too much for me.
A very strong debut from someone who has always seemed like a tortured, musical genius. However, not every song, to me, is super entertaining. The strong tracks are really strong (Come Pick Me Up, Damn Sam, Call Me, To Be Young, Shakedown). But some of the others don’t completely hold up comparatively. Also, I’m deducting a point because I believe Mandy and Phoebe
Love a lot on here, especially the second half of the album. Bron-Yaur Stomp, Gallows Pole, Tangerine, are all so good. Front half has a couple great rock tracks in Celebration Day and Out on the Tiles. Friends and Hats Off are solid. Since I’ve Been Loving You has always been one of my least favorite Zep hits but it was nice to revisit. And Immigrant Song is always a winner. What I will say is that this is maybe my least favorite of the first five or six Zep albums. But it’s still great.
This was definitely listenable and an interesting album. I like a lot of Lana’s music. But there was something missing for me on this listen. I thought her use of falsetto or whatever you want to call it was interesting on White Dress, lots of Joni Mitchell influence on this album. But I don’t know if I would say I “liked” it. The best song on here in my opinion is Wild at Heart. I gave the album a couple listens. Maybe it’ll grow on me.
So…I’d never listened to this full album before but I know it’s generally considered an all-timer by virtually everyone. I know about the frequent rifts between Liam and Noel. I like Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. So I figured I’d be all-in on this album. And…it’s just not necessarily my thing. I certainly didn’t dislike it. Lots of catchy riffs and hooks. But just not something I need to revisit on the whole.
I usually try to give albums I’ve never listened to before two listens before a review. There have been a couple albums I found completely off-putting and hard to listen to and stopped after one listen. I thought this was going to be one of those albums after the first track. However, the musicianship and production was strong, and the screaming and yelling that I found so grating slowed a bit. So I listened twice. Still not my thing. I’d never heard of Slint and probably won’t go out of my way to listen again. But I’ll give it 2 stars for the guitar, bass, and drum sound
I like the Zombies hits (Time of the Season, She’s Not There, etc). Had never listened to this album before and was somewhat disappointed. I think, as Ive aged and my music tastes have shifted, some of the more flowery psychedelic ‘60’s music like this isn’t as appealing to me. Still very strong harmonies and some good songs here, but I was expecting to enjoy it more than I did.
Solid. I had only known Cisco Kid from this album before. Thought the songs kinda dragged a bit, the longer ones in particular, but cool sound.
Love love love. Great album. Give it all the stars
Phenomenal. To write such socially conscious, beautiful, and catchy music as a first album shouldn’t be that easy. But Tracy does it here. And her voice is great, too, obviously. Talkin’ Bout a Revolution, Fast Car, Mountains, Ticket. It’s all gold.
This was a wild experience for me that I have yet to have on this 1001 albums experience. I had heard of Hot Chip but knew nothing about them, so I’d never listened to this record. First listen, I mostly hated it. Thought it was like boring of Montreal and unlistenable at times. But then decided to give it a second listen. I initially thought I was still gonna dislike it, but all of a sudden, I started dig the sound, lead singer’s voice…decided to give it a third listen. That’s when I realized I really enjoyed over half the album. Don’t Deny, Look at Where We Are, Night and Day, Flutes, Ends of the Earth, and Love. Crazy ride. From really hating to enjoying. Still just three stars. I’m not crazy for the album. But I was pleasantly surprised by the end of my third listen
This was a nice, background listen. Nothing at all unappealing. Just not something I’m going to throw on for fun. Obviously these are all very talented artists and musicians. And I don’t dislike jazz, and I’ve enjoyed the jazz I’ve heard on this journey so far. Just not gonna be my favorite thing
Excellent. Might be more of a 4.5 star album for me, but bumping it up for that VOICE. Loved listening to this all the way through for the first time
