groovy and uplifting.
an interesting case of the most famous track deserving the fame and being the best out of the bunch, and it's the opening right off the bat, it doesn't get much better than that tbh. but overall pretty consistent record and homogenous sounding.
i think a downer to this "project" is the abudant number of rock sort-of-music-that-is-overpraised records that do absolute nothing to me (personally) that i'll have to endure. even if this isn't terrible or as bad as other of the same rating (the rating scale doesn't help), i forgot all the songs. plus it makes me feel like the grumpiest person for disliking musicals
go girls, you sound fun!! but a bit generic... i kinda like how it sounds soundtrack-ish. unfortunely no track left a big impression on me other than recognising "we got the beat" from somewhere (nostalgic).
kinda fun, runtime is appreciated, but i wish there was more to it other than the conventional riffs all the time (something interesting happens for a few seconds in "deny"), and i need to be in a mood to stand the vocals / energy
lyrical content is... questionable at best. there are very few instances where i will tolerate dick(only!)-centered themes and this ain't it. instrumental is ok and sometimes serves as good second plan and groovy music, but certainly not the best hip hop has to offer.
enjoyable listen, "all about love" is pretty sweet (lyrics carried) and some melodies were cool
unfortunately not taking any of these songs with me for now, but maybe revisiting some other time in life, like any other 3+ star album discovery possibly?
there is something inherently countercultural about me that makes this long, long overdue beatles hype that rangers around till this day dreadful, and not connecting to the absolute best critically acclaimed and most loved just means to me, in this case, that i am nowhere interested in these men with their same old guitar riffs or having a dad (luckly not mine) music taste.
unfortunately, i hate to be a hater, so there is some near interesting tracks (within you without you). and to be fair i've heard much better from them, so hopefully my killjoy speech doesn't repeat word to word for all the other 398275 entries they get in this project
on day 8, i got something i am most familiar with and closer to what i already listen to, and as much as i'm using this as a way to engage with music i normally wouldn't, it still feels pretty good to discover new things within my usual realm of taste.
tracks like "flying" and "lever street" simply incite happiness in me from nostalgia and the sense of experiencing a (not too long) past that was and hadn't been decoded yet in audio form. it lifts my mood and makes me wonder if i will see the moments of now on the same lens in the future. even if i do prefer this kind of sonority from the record, i like how it's in between more guitar leading tracks like each works as a pause or palate cleanser from the other, or at times kind of merging together like in "aladdin's story".
it's not a perfect score because it didn't blow me away (sadly noticing the empty portion of a glass type person :/ ), still wishing the rating was higher for this one, but not surprised coming from the pattern i see here tbh.
funny i thought about this album the day it generated! but it's not that hard not to think about this album when you wish you were more into Lorde. it is very in check with linking the alt pop which also opened me doors back to enjoying purely pop and radio playable music that i got tired of as a teen. and i feel if there is music that is equally interesting, well-made, catchy and "carefree" enough to get the attention of as many people as possible (radioable), it probably is something like this.
i'm not sure what people like more about this album, but from a songwritting view, the lyrics didn't do much to me, as much as i see it as well written. the delievery at times rangers close in the taylor swift adjacent vocals which scramble a bunch of similar vision female pop artists together in a box by familiar voices, a bit similar to how metal/rock rage male screaming sounds the same to me, just not things that get me past the surface level of interest to notice enough difference (tho in here i hear a bit of lorde's more unique tone).
sonically, i love the ranges reached, there is good variation and interesting melodies. i like the more explosive and product-of-their-time tracks, which makes me like pure heroin more than this. maybe not my type of melodrama, or my pop (not exaclt danceable, or sad enough, or idiosyncratic either). perhaps i will get it some day. for now i could probably get back to "the louvre" and "hard feelings" INCLUDING "loveless".

so many two stars so far which implies hating them but it's just that three is already good enough which this is not quite there.
at first i was intrigued by it sounding interesting while i thoight this sort of music wouldn't to me, so i think i can say whatever they're doing, it sounds right? i'd also think the record came out years later which is a compliment. i really liked the female vocals performances. but other than those thoughts i have nothing else to say and it is a bit too long for my liking, with little to no highlights at least from the top of my head, so kind of nothing burger at that. the daily time window doesn't allow for multiple replays to try and let it sink in but i wouldn't be too interested either.
first entry right up my alley but STILL, it lacked the connection i needed, which i fear might always be the case for any album i will hear once or twice and then have to elaborate my thoughts within a day or two.
this was useful, because this sort of musics energizes me and makes me lock tf in, can't really explain why, it just itches a part of my brain. for that, the length come in pretty handy because you can just work and get lost in time and the music, but on the otherside, there's just too much content for too few highlights. what i can think of right now is that most of the vocals are obsolete and would be better off gone, that "brown paper bag" is pretty recognizable and sounds like a classic, and i was sure "let's get it on" sampled the mario underground ost. overall, i enjoyed disc 1 better.
i wouldn't guess this was early 90s because it has that late 00s quality and feeling to it, that was probably what i enjoyed the most about the record. this being very vocal heavy, i mostly couldn't care more for the musicality side of it for the most part, but i think she gave an ok performance. songs can either be fine ("run, baby, run" is i think my favorite and a bit tone distinct from the rest), annoyingly catchy (if there's one thing i came out thinking about this was that she is leaving las vegas), or just a dragger (i particularly dislike "what i can do for you").
the oldest record of the list so far, at least that i can think of and honestly this one really shows, but not a bad thing in this case. this really has that old quality to it, with the little details like how i think the way singing "baby" in older songs just sounds way sweeter and is kind of staple for that time. i can hear a lot of similarities to music of the same era and it gives me a grandparent's radio sort of feeling which is a bit warming.
i like the vocal work (backing/layering?), specially the female voice perfomances, plus having watched "chungking express" and not getting sick of "california dreamin", it probably means it's really good. that song sits inside a box along with "sweet home alabama" and "take me home, country roads" to me for some reason (us states love?) and it is BY FAR the best one out of the three.
nice album overall! but i would rarely listen to it casually because it sounds like belonging to such a specific time and space in which i don't care much to be in
i guess i couldn't say anything that hasn't been said about this. while probably not my favourite of richard's work, i still love everything about this, including the infine amount of iconic ness from the cover and logo alone. i can see how someone could find it boring or underwhelming, but to me there are loads of universes and tiny details to be found and to think or trip about in those tiny repetitive beats and patterns, and it gets me out of this world and body while also locking tf in. aphex twin is the king
i'm all confused throughout the entire record because it keeps going from an agglomeration of things i hate the most ("plateau" is a perfect example) to things i somewhat enjoy a little bit (honestly, on it's entirety, only "aurora borealis", sometimes other instrumental tracks in part). obviously, scarse ok parts do NOT nearly make up for the horrendous huge bits. sometimes it combines ok instrumentals with terrible vocals (i'm totally OK with singers who can't sing at all, but if it doesn't land it does not land) and i'm left almost mad the track was close to being listeanable. it also left me clueless as to which i hate more: the rock or country music stereotype. i think one redeeming quality which is just really a detail is how this somehow emanates this amateur vibe, coming from a not big hit band and how it being here gives highlight and importance to smaller groups (or at least what feels like it, also given by the fact it's one of the least streamed on spotify so far in the list), but even this fact makes me kinda mad thinking about how many hidden gems made with much less are sooo much better than this and will remain uncovored. what is it about THIS that is the chosen one? so sad. this record gave me a hater day and i hate it for that above all
so refreshing listening to this after a ROUGH previous entry. not my first time but as fun as the last time. i was in awe with the samples and soo focused on recognising them, ofc when the music itself wasn't hitting hard (rarely). i remember trying to listen to this to go and distract myself from artists i was too obssessed with, only to find samples of them within this and thinking i was tripping like fucking abstention and it was COOL. i love this and how it questions how to make music. this is dj shadow's music, not compilation, not just pieces of someone else's songs. there is great mastery in sampling and this is THE prime example.
i don't bother to try and look past the burden of having to deali with the beatles all over again. the only song where something really interesting is happening were "sitting by the riverside" and "animal farm". and there. are. MANY. SONGS.
as much as i recognize this is good music, it doesnt do much to me
it took me quite long to pay attention to gorillaz despite the very interesting visuals, character/vitural band concept and gender bending style, until i had the opportunity to see them live and listened to most of their discography beforehand. that said, i really like what they do and most songs are fun, but this is not my favorite album (it doesnt help i was never crazy about clint eastwood song). it still feels pretty timeless, i love the bubbly silliness of "19-2000" for example, love the diversity inside the record, and whatever makes me think of or resembles stuff like massive attack or even nine inch nails in some tracks which is always nice!
this wasn't as dull as i was expecting, i really liked the piano work, still another classic sounding rock, just a bit more pink floyd adjacent which is a bit more cool. due to comparison to other 3 stars this can't be higher than two
while it stays in the more nice sounding punk music, it can be pretty repetitive because of it's lenght and not much stands out to me
oh it's yet another old classic rock record, this time i find it interesting being live, but again, a lot passes by without sparkling anything in me, and i gravitate a little more towards the more fun melodic guitar riffs of some tracks like the first one rather than the more performatic, epic rock of most of the rest. particularly towards the ending, it was rock anthem after rock anthem with triumphal endings but actually. it never. ended. too long
oh boy i miss when i knew bob dylan only from the video of him reading a store sign and messing it up in a fun way, i would've thought he made interesting music, which is ?perhaps? true but not good sounding music... not to say every music has to sound pleasant AT ALL but i just fucking can't with the. damn. harmonica. it was the first and one of the only real instruments i ever owned and it never made anything other than hit my brains and ears the wrong way (also storage everyone's spit permantely). i'll give it to it though when it keeps that very long note in the second track, it almost sounded badly good. it also stops appearing and then it is just... country music? i don't know what's worse. the vocals arent as bad as i previously knew from him, but this is still a big big noo. i see how one star can be tough i've messed up my rating system and this fed my algorithm so fuck it !!
the most 2010s 2007 music ever. liking or not, nostalgia is what drives me to a lot of media i consume and this album has the type i can actually grasp, the one i actually lived and feel as myself, not from an era i wish i grew up in or see others cherish. stuff like this was my entrypoint to more alternative music and today leaves a very strong track of feel-good and serotonin sensation song after song. even with more overplayed songs like "kids" i still see the appeal and hype found in the melody (and the less known part of the song is so sick too!). i really dig this overall, it feels so nowadays-hipster (complementary) and special, giving sound to an entire era and what was the beggining of discovery of more fun, more e(c)lect(r)ic music for many!
this is a fun album i thought had enough character for me to enjoy it, but maybe not to the point a song stood out or like i'm revisiting it anytime soon.
beatles-esque, boring music with a pinch of country is not winning me over no matter how many times this list has insisted
this gets a one star because i'm tired of this type of sound from this project. and for the overall lower review rate i say: this is pretty much how other old same so-so "soft rock" albums this community praise so much sounds like to me, so it's kind of a surprise.

it started off strongly and then... forgetable except for the fact i cant believe i do prefer limp bizkt. its crazy but i will take that trashy 00s moaning over your 70s samey anthems
i don't think i've given madonna enough thought (or even credit, sadly) so far, but coming to think about it she has such a huge, vast and longlasting career that is very interesting and impressive.
so in the 80s she sounded... 80s-ish. this is not a record i was expecting from what i know of hers, and it is kind of a good surprise, again because you can really feel the artistic development, simply from experience or from the products of different times.
this is not very consistent or coherent in my opinion, but that makes it better this way: there is enough variety and different ways to enjoy it. i don't particularly adore the more ballad oriented songs, although they DO sound good, and i'd think madonna wouldn't get where she is at now if it was only for this sort of music (but then we get something like "love song" which is feels VERY michael jackson adjacent, but even more interesting imo, so certainly that WAS the fame's way), so tracks like "till death do us part" or even "dear jessie" which sounds like an altered or more mainstream appropriated dream pop sound are my favorite out of the bunch.
this was my first madonna experience and it certainly gives me a lot more curiosity into her work
RIP Dolly. i dont know if this is a thing, but i got this album one day after her death! and i've never heard of her before, which is a shame considering the icon she is. this music though, uhh i will say it is by far the best sounding country i've heard! a lot of warmth & a lot of good vocal performances. women can make even country sound... at least ok
rating this 3 stars for the simple fact i believe this has the potential to eventually click with me, but not quite there yet, it has its elements but the overall product still feels a bit dry
first off this is one of the ugliest and (perhpas this term doesn't fit in here but comes to mind) poor taste album covers i've ever seen, not a visual treat to be seen. that said, i jugded it by its cover and i was a bit surprised by the very fist notes, then just disappointed by the time the vocals came in... thematically and lyrically this is nothing as well as far as i care.
