Still relevant as it was when it came out. Songs are great on their own but really shine in the context of the album.
This is for the listeners not the consumers. I respect the rock jazz thing thats going on while in the same breath admitting that this isn't quite my style.
Really enjoyed this album. Starts off really strong and keeps a good pace afterwards. The vocals are a little lowkey but there is an honesty in the singing that is quite charming and complimentary to the strong use of brass and strings.
Some insane all timers with quite a bit of mid and repetive songs inbetween.
Enjoyable Album though I'm unsure of the vocal performance. It doesnt ruin the album but feels like it's holding back its full potential.
Had to get used to the vocalist which I'm still not entirely on board with but he does add character to the songs. The muic itself is a bit weird and experimental but to an enjoyable degree. I can see this growing on me over time.
Pleasant, Inoffensive. By virtue of what it's going for it lacks anything for me to consider memorable. Enjoyable background music though.
Jazz at it's worst. While I'm certain that the musicians and fans of the art form have a great time with the making of and listening to this album, to me this is barely more than an ego fueled assault to my ears. There are a couple of songs later on that benefit from a slightly more structured approach but not worth the journey to get there.
At least it introduces perspective.
Cricital, comfortable, cute but also very repetitive. Enjoyed the songs in isolation though back to back its hard not to notice the lack in musical variety.
What a struggle. I was excited going in as 'popular' is an understatement for Prince and Purple Rain. Surprisingly though I found everything incredibly jarring on the first listen. Had I stopped there I would have thought about rating it a respectful 2 but I ended up listening through the album 4 more times. My opinion improved on each round and while I still wouldn't claim to be a fan of Prince's excentric singing style I'm happy to report that I ended up liking this album after all.
This is good, a bit repetitive but good!
Starts of pretty good but the singer is a little annoying to me. It's unfortunate because the instrumentals are really good but his attempts at sounding gentle are quite a turn off for extended listening.
A lot of it sounds like music you would find in advertisements or video game menus, which isnt necessarily ment negatively. It more comes down to the fact that while there is enjoyment to be had, the album listening experience is pretty much the same as putting on a random Y2K themed youtube playlist for background noise while you work.
Sounding like you want to actively sabotage your band surely is a choice. What a shame, this could have been really good. God hes so annoying.
