Each song has a great hook and very catchy but felt they all went on too long in a repetitive manner - great if you are tripping (I imagine)
While usually a fan of instrumental heavy rock, Robert Smith's vocal style not to my taste.
Sound balance was poor with lyrics inaudible for much of the album (which may have been beneficial).
First time listening rather than catching the songs on the radio.
Strong, consistent quality. Vocal style not to my taste (sorry Yorkshire folks) but a good listen regardless. I had high expectations based on reputation and they were met.
I do not think I would get on well with the person in the album art.
The platonic idea of a Beatles album and rock songs from the 1960s.
Found my toe tapping despite myself.
Didn't change the dial on my opinion of The Beatles.
The album cover promised something interesting but songs didn't deliver.
It was fine.
Sax first thing in the morning can really get the blood pumping.
A song writing tour de force, really enjoyed it
Classic rock melodies made for easy listening. However, song lyrics are utterly uninspired - suffered greatly by comparison to Simon & Garfunkel with their cover of Mrs Robinson
Found it easy, inoffensive listening but none of the songs sparked any sort of joy (or other strong emotion).
5-8 minutes is entirely too long to spend on a song saying nothing at all.
This sure was a British album from the 60s!
Instrumentally interesting but vocally and lyrically only average.
I can imagine it's a great high energy live set but on album left wanting something more.
Hip hop is not my.vibe. I respect the artistry but prefer music that I can let wash over me than that which requires concentration upon lyrics.
Comes out the gates swinging with Paint It Black but subsequent songs don't match it for impact - struggling to recall any other songs from the album after 1 listen.
Yawn. Neil Young's voice does nothing to elevate standard folk style. The only bright spots in the album were the upbeat instrumental segments - which are sadly short lived.
The less said about "maids" the better.
1000% more interesting than yet another male led record
A nice mix of up tempo and slower numbers but hey 60s, a 3 second fade isn't how you end a song.
That album was "Just what I needed" - I was surprised to read they were American, as I associate this sound with Sex Pistols and similar British bands.
At the outset I thought this one was going to be a 5* - first couple of tracks had excellent choruses but got I tired of the length of the songs without any real progression or development of the melody.
Finished strong with International Lover. Solidly between 3-4*
The album was described as dreamy pop - which I definitely agree with. Much preferred the poppy-er numbers than the dreamy ones.
They get an extra star for being from my hometown.
Not much to say. It's Metallica
Good songs, slightly over long
I thought I liked punk but I this album improved markedly when it shifted to a more traditional rock sound with the song Androgenous.
Overall a solid album let down by the first half
Not my cup.of tea
The songs that were covers brought a smile to my face but beyond those found little to be memorable.
I am unlikely to relisten to this but might terrify my niece by showing her the album art.
